From the opposite end of the street, the Guardian smokes and watches. If the Libertine was half the genius he claimed to be, he was going to jump at the chance to slip past the guards and do whatever he had intended to do.
There is more though. Wars aren't won on the battlefield, wars are won before armies have even met. Control the environment, splinter the opposition, cut their resources. The Guardian looks around, trying to spot the signs of any landline connecting to the building and taking mental note of the traffic lights.

    Time freezes.

Shodan considers running - but then the mission fails, and they are back to square one, only with more suits on their tail. He considers fighting - but even if he could pull it off, that'd just create more pointless chaos. He considers surrendering to infiltrate the MIBs from the inside out - but a mental image of Winter's face, twisted in a cynical grin, staves off the idea.

    So - experiment time!

Shodan manipulates the primal forces around him to vanish from the hunters literal radars - but still provide them with someone thy can blame for all... this. So, as a little extra, the Prime Mover twists the sound waves that carry the High Speech so that it appears to originate from someone close to the hunters. Preferably a young African American - after all this is the federal government, and Shodan'll be damned if there's ever been a more perfect scapegoat for these people.

That's when he notices that one of the kids that trashed his laptop has a piece of magic on them. Which narrows the number of suspects for this underage intrusion to one: Winter. Shodan doesn't know whether to be furious or thankful.

Winter noticed immediately that there were power and phone lines that run right in front of the building, but the intersection was a four way stop, not a traffic light. Only four stop signs to control traffic. He also noticed that the man in the car seemed to be on alert, a woman and a man in undercover clothing had put their hands to their ear while they watched the front of the building, and someone got in the van and started it.

As soon as Shodan's spell took effect the agent holding the device started hitting it with his hand. It was as if something was throwing off their detection and they no longer looked calm or peaceful. Then one of the agents heard a strange language coming from the direction of a man near them. "Freeze. Stop chanting and get on the ground," he yelled, pulling a taser from its holster. The other two men followed suit and they began to give commands to a very confused man who slowly made his way to the ground.

The cost of preparedness - is measured now in time and later in blood. The Guardian's gaze moves from mark to mark. Like every trial, even this one would be subject to the whims of chaos. He focuses his attention on the middle of the street, it's a small enough interference, but enough - he assumes - to send a vehicle or two out of control. The idiom of the Spires clicks against his tongue, and then, a lash of the Aether is made manifest.

You know what's better than chaos? More chaos. Something Shodan is about to create.

Step one: extinguish one of the lights in the main area. The Prime Mover is not going to take any chances in what might be the only time to get past the MIBs. But no High Speech this time. Nothing to give off his nature.

Winter formed the Imago in his mind and the roadway, at least a circle with a diameter of 2 yards, essentially became a very dangerous ice rink.

Shodan on the other hand reached out to the Supernal to snuff out a light and reality did not like that. Not one bit. As the magic passed through the Abyss it became unstable, though luckily it still hit the overhead light. But the abyss had tainted the spell, and it was...different, so instead of the light just simply flicking off, it quickly got brighter and brighter, until the whole cafe was filled with florescent light before the bulb made a loud popping sound and then all light ceased.

Luckily for Shodan he had expected something to happen, though not nearly like that, so while the agents were thoroughly distracted he was able to slip around them and through the back door, letting it swinging softly behind him. Once through the door he found himself looking at a simple hallway that went straight, then left. Immediately to his right was access to the kitchen, though no one was there at the moment. At the end of the hall, after the turn, was what appeared to be a rear exit. On the left side of the hallway, just before the turn, was a small storage room that appeared to have been converted into a makeshift command center. On one of the shelves were three strange devices:

    • One was a square device with a grip that looked just like the one the agent had. It also looked like it had been made in the 50s and modeled after old pulp science fiction comics. But despite its looks it was in fact surprisingly modern, with a flat digital display and several buttons. If turned on it would show a circle display that seemed to be malfunctioning, with red lights popping up all over it.
    • The second one looked like a strange metallic pistol, and if Shodan were to look in the clip he wouldn't find bullets as expected, but what looked like sand.
    • The third device appeared to be a simple GPS locator that could easily fit in the palm of someone's hand.

To combat the Abyss, one must acknowledge its signs. Teetering on the brink, one step away from merciful oblivion, the Obrimos can feel the ice picks on his skin, the sulfurous gorge rising in his throat, poisoning the last drag of his cigarette. He crosses the street, cursing something or someone under his breath.

For once, Fate could be so kind and leave a data storage device with a nefarious plot the bad guys have brewing in Shodan's path - but nooo, everyone has to care about op-sec. What's the world coming to?

In any case, it's loot time. The GPS locator and the square device are hidden in the suit pockets without further thought, but the pistol-like machine gives the Prime Mover pause. Because keeping sand in your clip? Not reccomended for firearm longevity. So, there must be more to it. And magic is going to tell him what.

But it just wouldn't be fair if he just took, and has not given anything in turn. Therefore, Shodan produces a small listening device from the surveillance kit he's brought here, turns it on and places it on one of the top shelves or some other hard to reach place, but not before concealing it from view with techne and hiding the glyph with some mana. He isn't too worried about retreival - after the shit that just went down, the MIBs are likely to scram, and let's be honest, this place is not exactly Fort Knox.

With that done, Shodan heads for the rear door and exits into the alley.

Notes: it's my fault that I never specified I pick up the case containing the surveillance kit, but since we already assumed Shodan is taking the laptop (which was originally in the same case) I don't think that's much of a stretch - of course, final decision rests with you Matrixchild. Also, the Invisible Object was intended to have advanced prolongation of 2 days (and if you take 4 dice from the right that's still 1 suxx), but since it wasn't specified in the roll's description I'm fully prepared to accept standard duration

Winter could feel in his bones that the Abyss had been touched by Shodan's spell.

As if putting on magical googles, the glyph transformed the Libertine's vision. The item before him was alien and unknown, but Matter made things plain. Clear. Instinctively he could determine that the sand was not sand at all, but in fact tiny pellets the size of grains of sand that could be shot by the device and embedded in the skin of a target. Those pellets could then be tracked by the GPS device to determine said target's exact location in real time for a period of 24 hours.

As Shodan stepped out through the rear door he looked up to see an agent sitting in the van. They both froze. Their eyes met. The Agent quickly put his hand up to his ear and said, "potential suspect fleeing through rear. Engaging now," before reaching for the door handle.

As Winter made his way across the street, he could see Shodan burst out into the alley, and could tell the agent in the van saw him exit.

2019-03-07 12:43:26 van agent rolls 1 die for initiative 5

So we'll jump into turns now to resolve this. To clarify everyone's location there are 4 agents inside the cafe (Agent1, Agent2, Agent3, IUA) dealing with their mistaken suspect. There are two agents (OUA and Agent in Car) in the front of the cafe. Winter is making his way across the street and can see the van/Van Agent and Shodan at the back of the alley near the rear exit, as well as both agents in front of the building. Shodan can only see Van Agent in front of him, and Winter and the Agent in Car if he looked towards the street. The car the agent is in is blocking the alleyway, and thus between Winter and Shodan. Let me know if you need me to draw a diagram.

    Turn order will be:

    Winter 14 - Agent2 14 - Agent in Car 14 - Agent1 13 - Agent3 12 - Shodan 9 - Outside Undercover Agent (OUA) 9 - Inside Undercover Agent (IUA) 9 - Van Agent 8

    Winter is up first

Shodan You can have the bag of everything you brought, including the temporarily broken laptop. Since you rolled for standard duration the spell will last for standard duration.
