(1411) Something wicked (Acanthus)

[Pepper]

Pepper smirked, and graciously allowed Miach to take a cappuccino. Totally an awesome idea. She wiggled her own chai latte out of a carrier and sat down, crossing her legs and leaning back into her chair like a boss - because she was.

And then the New Faces arrived. "Fluke and Falstaff, right? Grab a seat, grab a folder, take a beverage of choice. I'm Provost Pepper, and she's Councilor Elle, also known by some other names, but Elle for today and now." She sipped her Latte, still feeling the buoyancy of Miach's praise, and thus failed to register Nous's hurt look.

"Yeah, I'll be honest, that was sort of rough. 'Collect the Precedents' Oh sorry, they're all terrible. To be honest, they kind of are. Civillity ought to stay, if only because it'll be the best tool for dictating what is and is not okay when Nemesis is declared. I am fond of the Precept of Liberty, since it marks what's appropriate for the Council to do or not. Secrecy and Recognition are a Must, obviously. Secrecy's previous verdicts are too specific to be of real use though. Recognition could use some shiny silver amendments, but it's a pretty core concept to mage Society. I suspect that the Precept of Law isn't actually a golden law at all, and something someone just added to enough copies of the Lex behind everyone's back that no one noticed."

[Falstaff]

He nods emphatically when Provost Pepper asks if he's Falstaff. If all the questions were that easy, he would be a star Acanthus. Things go well when he doesn't speak he deduces. He wonders if he can go the whole meeting without saying anything, decides that he's going to try. Hopefully, it won't come to pantomime. That could get him into trouble. But talking? Talking would definitely get him into trouble. He hurries off before she asks him any questions he has to use words to answer.

At the beverage table, Falstaff can't decide what he wants so mixes a bit of everything into one cup. He makes his to Crowley and tries to indicate that he won't be speaking today, if he can help it. Crowley would understand the wisdom in it. Crowley would back his play. Soon, everyone would think Falstaff was aloof, mysterious, and wise. He almost laughs, but covers his mouth to keep the noise inside.

[Aurora]

Ok….duly noted to call Nous Elle. Guess she didn’t think it would be an issue, but she goes with it.

Her eyes then move to Falstaff as he enters, taking a sip of her drink. Good to see new faces.

She then sits and picks up the folder, flipping though it as she tries to listen to the others. When Fluke walks in, she flashes him a friendly smile.

Eyes then move back to the folder as Pepper talks. There were a lot of good points to The Lex, but she understood the need for some change.

[Emrys]

Emrys was somewhat nervous as he approached the library. Your first meeting with the local awakened could go a lot of different ways, and the Libertine didn't know what to expect from the locals. Was it a safe place? What Orders were represented on the path of Thistle? Would he meet any other Libertines to chat with and what was on the agenda for the meeting? So many things could be happening, but nothing was going to happen for him unless he actually showed up.

So to that end the Enchanter threw up his sight and made his way. He arrived somewhat dressed down but still presentable. A light knock on the door announced his late arrival before he stepped inside.

"Hey folks." Emrys started before freezing in the doorway. His lip twitched slightly as he looked at the distinct lack of spells in the room of possible wizards. Not even a simple sight to make sure the people coming in weren't Sleepers, unless they had the spells cloaked? Not the Mighty though, so a room full of Prime Apprentices seemed unlikely. Of coarse that was assuming they were a room full of mages at all, a fact he couldn't confirm without Prime or a few active spells on them.

"I'm, um, here for the meeting? I think this is the place, but it's not as Enchanting as I was envisioning." Hint dropped, and the Libertine watched the others and waited for their response.

[Crowley]

Crowley raised his eyes from the paperwork when the Councillor made her wishes known regarding her Name. He held his tongue in check for the moment and drifted back to the Charter... until he gave up completely and placed it on the table in front of him.

The new guy offered a welcome distraction. "Yeah. I know. We're not an Enchanting bunch till you get to know us. We tried to hire dancing elves but they got lost along the Path." He smiled genially, even if his eyes were somewhat guarded. He cocked his head to one side and threw a wondering glance to Nous... Elle... the Councillor. "You must be new in town? Looking for friends? Fate has a sure funny way of providing..."

Let the Atlantean Orders panic and jump through hoops with their protocols and security and double talk. Sometimes you just had to lay it out and see what happened. After all, the new guy was here at their door. There was no hiding now.

[Jag]

Fluke nodded at Pepper's words. "Yeah," he said in response, surprised by the fact that she knew his name. "It is nice to meet ya," he said, letting his words trail off as he let out a soft chuckle. Being still fairly new to the area, the Libertine had yet to meet many of the local mages. This girl seemed nice enough though, and she was the Provost, which was good to know. At least he was aware of who represented their Path, which was a step in the right direction.

Folder? Oh gosh...what did I sign up for?

The Libertine took a long sip of coffee, suddenly realizing that the meeting would likely be much longer than he originally expected. It was probably good that he familiarize himself with the local Lex and all, but talking politics and law was definitely not his idea of a fun afternoon. At least they've got free coffee, he thought to himself as he grabbed one of the folders that Pepper had indicated.

As someone else walked into the room, Fluke turned his attention to the new guy, offering him a friendly smile. "Welcome," he said, raising his cup of coffee in the newbie's direction. Grab a folder, a coffee and prepare to be bored to death! His thoughts made him chuckle once more. Who knows? Maybe this guy is into this sort of thing...

[Miach]

Looking up again from his folder, Miach smiled too to the newcomer, only sparing a side glance to Elle / Nous to check what shade of annoyance she would display at this point.

"Nice meeting you." the doctor said with a nod. "I hope we'll have Time to get acquainted." he said, following the same spirit as Crowley.

That made three new faces at once...

[Jhet]

She makes notes of the sections that Pepper mentions. Sure, she has ideas of her own, and ideas that need to be run past Lictor Telos before she goes into the next official council meeting. It's going to be difficult enough to get anything done with just the five of them. Well, that may not actually be true. Ermac, Avis, and Mace can all be counted on to not be idiots. The jury is still out on Idun.

New people of the thistle. That's three, and two others that didn't come to this meeting. She needs to track down Dąl Riata and get her back into shape to get her ass out into public. It's one thing to get knocked down. It's another when you don't get your ass back up off the ground.

"Welcome to our not at all meant to be fun meeting. I'd apologize, but if I don't make sure that everyone sees the old version that was invalidated by our lawyer-judge extraordinaire, then we can't go into the next meeting with any sort of real idea of what we need to talk about. And I wouldn't want to do us an inservice, especially when we're becoming so numerous."

She at least smiles as she gives the bad news about the entirely serious nature of the meeting. It may make her warm and fuzzy on the inside to work with bureaucratic stuff, but she knows it's not everyone's favorite playtime activity. It is still important and if they didn't want to pay attention, she's at least giving them the option.

[Emrys]

There was a sigh of relief as Crowley and Miach threw their own hints back. Message received, right place.

"Old version?" The new guy asked as he made his way to one of the seats. He skipped the coffee and wandered curiously over to the binders. It was a Lex.

Yay...

"Oh." Was his simple and unenthusiastic response before finally sitting down. "Was there anything in particular we were looking at? Precedents or Silver Laws?"

Emrys paused slightly before scanning the room. "I'm Emrys by the way. Are there any Factotums here? And who should I be addressing as Counselor or Provost?"

[Crowley]

Crowley reached over for a coffee and gestured with it to... Elle.

He didn't have much to add and didn't want to look at the barely decipherable Lex so he sat in an uncomfortable silence, sipping his drink and watching the group.
