Leah looked to Autolycus. "But... why would you believe us? It's not exactly possible, what we saw."
"Mommy?"

"Stay in your room, Jacob," Penderson said sternly, a very, very protective look in her eyes.

"I have a gun and pepper spray aimed in my direction," Mandy stated a little blithely, "calm is the only option I actually have right now." Auto's sarcasm wasn't liable to help, but she appreciated the X-Files reference, at least. "Bursting in here and calling you out seemed liable to make things worse."
Her eyes glanced to the child, and a sad expression settled on her face, but her hands didn't lower, clearly in line of sight as she moved her gaze back to the officer. "Negate the impossibilities for a moment and look just at the facts, those are the important parts, right? You're an officer, you should know. The fact is that someone got electrocuted. That is a danger. And so far, no one has cleared the whereabouts of the man who did it.
"It could have been any number of things," she added. "Someone watching a bit too much Iron Man, someone's science experiment causing a static charge, we don't know. That's what we're trying to find out. With your help, maybe we can finally resolve this and figure out what, precisely, you did actually see. I want to see the streets safe. I imagine so do you - both of you. So please, can we talk reasonably and resolve this? I'm sorry we lied, but even you don't seem to believe what you saw."

Barton held the shotgun on both for a long moment longer, but he was looking to Penderson, who looked to be contemplating what Zodiac was saying. Could it be they'd just seen some crazy pseudo-science experiment happening?
She turned to Barton for a moment, then shrugged with a long exhilation of breath as some tension left her. Barton lowered his shotgun and came out of the closet. "Okay. But don't try anything stupid. Why don't we start with your real names, see if we can't build some trust here? I don't mind being straight with you, as long as you're straight with us," said Penderson.

Mandy gave a soft sigh, shaking her head as she looked a little relieved. The spell she'd settled on Leah dispersed, even as a couple other casts went up. There was no way in hell she was giving Autolycus even remote access to her name. That was retarded. Once she'd cast her spell quietly, she offered a hand to Leah, cautiously. "I'm Rhea. Rhea Ecklund."

Autolycus scowls. Hopefully the sleepers will interpret it towards them. Hopefully Mandy will get exactly why he's pissed off. First Leo? Now the god damn Guardians? We're supposed to be on the same side here. "I don't give my name to Cops that pepper spray me."
None of Ozymandias's targets were able to keep out the force of her push through the World Mind into their own. As their memories of this conversation were locked into a box for disposal at the expiration of the spell, the Sleepers simply did not have any idea of what was to come.
Barton narrowed his eyes at Auto, and Penderson said, "Then you can take a walk, Mulder. You two have worked your way into my home, and I expect some answers if you want some back. I'll be honest with you, I'm..."
She paused, then looked from each to each.
"...usually terrified to talk about this shit. And I am now, too. But for some reason, I was..."
She looked again at Barton, who shrugged back. "Did one of you drug me or something? For some reason, I was super talkative about this, and I never am..."
Disbelief. Confusion. The Lie, pushed yet again as this Sleeper struggled with the Quiescence that bound her.
Meanwhile, in the back of Ozymandias's mind, something pushed at her internal Code. She had just used Magic to erase someone's memory, an act of Hubris that rattled at her. Did she have the right? Under all circumstances, just this one, or any at all? Was it different, doing it to a Sleeper? What about Autolycus? Was one worse? Was one better? Should she have done it at all?
Quite the quandry.

"Drug you? What possible way could we have had to drug you?" she responded with a frown. She had very few options, and as wrong as it felt, logically it was the only appropriate thing to do. Even if she'd had an false ID to work with, she was under the guise of Imposter, the images wouldn't have coincided. She couldn't simply hand over her own ID, either, for that reason. Dropping the spell would have been a further breach of the Veil, so that obviously wasn't an option.
"You said you don't believe in coincidences? Maybe there was a part of you that knew we were here to help..." Mandy shook her head, "and maybe we ruined that by being deceitful. But we mean no harm. We want to get to the bottom of what happened, and I imagine you'd like that peace of mind, too?"
"Fine," Auto says, flatly. "If that's the way you want it, I'll get out of your hair. Good luck." Autolycus stands and exits the apartment. He was absolutely livid at Mandy, but he wasn't going to just abandon another mage in an apartment where she was outnumbered by people who had already attacked once. He pulls out his phone and fires off a pair of texts to their back up before leaning against the wall next to the door with his arms folded and a scowl on his false face while he waits for Cut and Nous to get there.
