The mana spends are tracking in the minisheet perfectly you have spent 5 mana which is correct. In the post why did you stats go up to 8 mana?

No mage is capable of doing everything alone, even the greatest of arch master has limits, although being a 2nd degree master and well versed in the truths of magic does enable a great deal to get done. Aurora resolute in her desire to see this threat to the Consilium ended with minimal risks presses forward to learn all she can, an attitude any mystagogue would be proud to see and encouraged to aspire to.

This is part of the joys of not being too proficient in an Arcana, you are limited to your understanding and are left testing with it. Not ideal, but fuck it, you work with what you have.

Info was written down for when she was able to discuss it with someone at some point. Because her memory wasn’t as good as it used to be, and there as a lot going on, details could be forgotten, and that was not ok.

Magically, maybe it was time to take a break, do some mundane research. She had some, not a lot, of knowledge she could begin with. And who knows, maybe that would open up some ideas for her to magically search.

Research is an extended Intelligence+Academics roll +1 for internet -2 for using a phone each roll takes 30 minutes of time this is mainly relevant in the case of wanting to use spells to improve the task which might need to be cast several times over the course of a research task. Various mind, time, fate, forces, spirit and matter spells can be used to help with research rolls

Looking at her notes as to what the poison was set to do, she set to work typing in the key terms on her cell.

She wasn’t sure what she would find, but hoped it would guide her in a direction she hadn’t thought of. Poisons and what went with them was not her field of study, that was ancient languages, so she was sort of going in blind, hoping for the best.

Giving her magic a rest, she was doing this like she would looking into languages. Well, kinda. No books, just reading and looking for words to stand out to her. Something…anything…that she could use to figure out more about the substance and maybe, if lucky enough, her opponent. Because he either had to buy this, or make it. And both thoughts terrified her.

The world of venom, poisons and assassination attempts might not be her forte but research is a skill every mystagogue has in spades and for the shaman her endless hours honing her skills pays dividends today.

She narrows down the culprit to a primarily suspect. Haemotoxic snake venom, it causes the systems she has identified in the substance, this venom type can be found in rattle snakes of which California has 8 native species, seven of which can legally be purchased and kept as pets from most pet/reptile stores. A highly lethal substance that need only be milked from a pet to be stored for decades until it is needed.

You know, she was a girl that has seen a lot of things in her years. She’s traveled the states, even been overseas. But to have a dart shot at her that could have killed her in a most heinous manner, filled with maybe snake venom? That was not on that list of shit she has seen. Nope.

Nervous eyes drift to the dart, already liking it even less, if that possible, she was doing it.

And who the fuck wants to own a snake like that?! How is it legal? What is wrong with people?!

The jacket was gently moved a little bit further away from her. She’d rather destroy it, but knows there could still be things to learn from it.

Well…sense she had the search going, might as well see if there were any exotic reptile shops in Sacramento that sell any of the legal species of snake. Though it wasn’t lost on her that it could have been bough illegally too. But nothing wrong with covering the local bases.

The question on legality is a fine one to ask but apparently the right to own a venous reptile trumps a lot of things in California.

It takes no time at all for Aurora to find some likely candidates a few reptile shops sell venomous snakes but none more so then the Sepeanterium in the north east of the city, a snake specialist store who are currently advertising baby false water cobras (a non native breed of venomous snake) for a price of $0.00 ... that's right they are giving away dangerously venomous reptiles. No rattlers are currently on the listings for any store, but that advertisement makes them a prime candidate for dealing in the type of thing she is looking for. (They also sell venomous spiders and scorpions, which no are not snakes but does add to the sense that they corner the market in Sacramento on venomous pets.)

An article from the gold ole Sac Bee also makes mention that rattlers are active between march to October and can be found ... anywhere ... from fields, to riverbanks, to rocker areas and shrubbery, if someone was willing to risk it nabbing a wild one would not be out of the question.

She had read, and then reread that little tidbit. That they were given the snakes away. Snakes that were venomous. Like, seriously?! Just when you thought it was bad enough that it was legal to own these damn things, people tell you to hold your beer and make it worse. Seems like the least they could do is make people have to have a license to own them. Then at least we know who has deadly poison kicking around their house.

But now she was left in an interesting spot. She could take an Uber to the shop, take a look around. Which could leave her exposed for another attack. She didn’t know who this guy was, he could own or even work there for all she knew.

Fuck yeah she was, she almost died.

Or, she could head over there and recon the building and area. See if maybe she could spot the car, or some similar model. Hell, maybe spot the guy, who knows. It came with risks, but smaller ones.

What would make it easier is if there was someone to go with her. But, we can always get what we want, and she was capable.

Looked like she was headed to a pet store, but first things first, she calls an Uber to pick her up a couple blocks away from the Circle. Then, it was time to take care of her Aura, might not buy her much time, but she was only planning on a bit of recon anyways.
