The stench of burning flesh and dog hair was everywhere. Sonnie's enhanced sense of smell made her want to gag. Adrenaline kept her on task, however.

Three down, one to go.

The final Briarwolf was badly hurt and flailing wildly. Sidestepping it's attacks was child's play. Another time, another place, this might be more fun. But Seraphina was as worse off as the monster. Time to put this bastard to bed and see to the Queen's needs.

The Monkey nimbly spun around the canine creature, whirling her quarterstaff over her head in an impressive display before it crashed home into the Briarwolf's spine with a sharp cracking sound.

Circe lined up a shot on the last, and had to pull to the left to avoid punishing the monkey. Good thing she had enough experience to still shoot around Sonnie.

Red rubies swam on a sea of black to scan for where Seraphina was. And then snarled in rage at the sight of Seraphina badly injured. This wolf was going down very badly.

....and the last Briar Wolf falls.blood oozing, breath fleeting.

This obstacle was over, but not before it took it's pound of flesh. They still had the Wooden Stag to bring to the Molotov party.

But first, the Spring Queen lays, unsteady, obviously in agony, slowly bleeding out....

With the last wolf falling, Sera feels herself wanting to do the same. Just lay down, close her eyes and sleep. Sleep until the pain was gone.

But somehow, she doesn’t. Sapphires stay open, though there was pain in them. Wincing, breathing heavy, “We need to get to the Stag.” Her voice, still angelic, but weak.

Golden irises dart about, double checking to be sure all four of the canine predators are down and out. Check. The Briarwolves are all either bloody messes or burning heaps. None are moving. None are breathing.

The immediate threat over, the Claviger moves to her Queen. The staff - transferred to her tail. Right arm - goes about Sera to hold her swaying form upright. Left arm - the hand digs into Sonnie's messenger bag.

"No," she says. "We're going back to the Tavern."

A ziploc baggie is extracted, holding two small fruits. They looked like purple nectarines. Nimble monkey fingers remove one and hold it towards the Nix's mouth. "Eat. This'll stop the bleeding. Hurry up before you pass out. I don't wanna have to force it down your unconscious throat. That'd be gross, and kinda pervy."

Sonnie wasn't unharmed herself, but the minor claw marks on her back were nothing she was worried about, apparently. The adrenaline was numbing the pain, anyway. "We're in no shape to continue, Sera. We gotta go back. I'll call Ellie. She can patch you up." She glanced in the direction of the effigy. "The Trojan Stag will still be there later."

[Circe]

Circe sweeps the corpses with the rifle, seeing them not moving rushes to Seraphina while patting herself down. And goes more frantic with it before, "Fancuolo! I forgot by gob fruit juice. Sonja! See ta her injuries, use these if ya need it," she hands off the remaining duct tape roll and the canteen of water, "Imma make sure the mutts is done."

Circe walks up to each wolf carefully, prodding them with the rifle's barrel. If they move much, she is ready to shoot. If not? Then she draws her knife and slits their throats for good measure. "How close are we ta this thing? Could the fire just spread ta it?"

Because they can come back now that the guards are dead as fuck. Maybe she should drag back a corpse for harvesting? If Sera was okay.

Circe has 5 rounds left in the current clip, 10 rounds in the spare clip and 18 loose rounds on her person. Forgot to include her monthly goblin fruits in her gear :(

The Nix leans on Sonnie, accepting the help. Not trusting her legs.

“We have friends in the Dream with Him.” But there wasn’t any fight in her voice. She simply didn’t have it in her.

Sonnie doesn’t have to coax her much, she accepts the fruit. As she chewed it, a smile appeared, pained, but a smile, “You know you’d like it.” Still had a sense of humor.

She was torn, and it was clear on her face, “But we can’t leave them in there without doing something. What if they get hurt? What if they don’t come back?!” her voice getting frantic, tears beginning to fall, “What if they need us?” she wanted to be worried about all in the Dreams, but Rhodes was front and center.

Looking to Circe, “Would we be able to get any of their teeth or fangs?”

A deep breath, a grimace, “I honestly don’t know. I can’t really think straight right now.” Her eyes look down, “I’m sorry.” Tears still falling. Both from pain and from her failure.

Sonnie looked relieved as Sera consumed the dream-a-drupe, watching as the Nix's worst wounds healed... a little. At least nobody was going to bleed out now.

She bit her bottom lip. "I'm... not in charge here. You two are the Queens. I'm just a Claviger, and my job is to keep you safe, Sera. That's my priority and it tells me to get you back to safety and the magical heal-y hands of Titania." The Monkey sighed, "But the decision is yours and Circe's."

She glanced back at the dead Briarwolves. "At least we eliminated this pack. They're probably like the same ones from before... unless we're super unlucky. They must've been stalking the perimeter of the Tavern for weeks. This fight had to happen." Shaking her head, she looked back to Sera. "They may might be clear now, but there's no telling what may be waiting in that clearing. The stag could be guarded by those cult-y guys or something."

Sonnie turned to the Summer Queen, "We should, um, probably kick some dirt of the flames. There's no way to to tell which way it may spread."

As for how far away the effigy was? The Beast did a quick check. Making sure Sera was steady, she went over to a nearby briar and plucked a fresh thorn. This, she used to poke her thumb hard enough to draw a bead of blood. The catch fulfilled, she called upon a contract she had with Dreams, searching for the location of the wooden stag. The territory marker of the Huntsman.

Sonnie more or less knew the way already, but it was always good to double check, especially in the weirdness of the Hedge.

The goblin fruit heals 1 Lethal on Sera. Sonnie uses Dreams 1: Pathfinder to judge the distance to the effigy. Catch fulfilled!
