(Broken Cycle) Night Terrors

It is! Sorry! Dream Intensity is 3!

The heat continues to press into the Lost, while the single cry pierces through the house, coming from above, echoing down from the stairwell.


While Rhodes, parses through the Dream itself, looking for the stain of the True Fae, finding it, coming up from the floorboards, snaking around the archway, and beyond.

Technically she knew he was right, but it would help cover more ground. And it seemed the Arch was the way they were heading, so she lets him take the lead and follows. Her eyes still looking around for any sign of the ick, or any sign of the Dreamer. Though she needed to accept that she couldn’t help them. Not until the source of the ick was found.

The cry makes her pause, eyes looking up, the struggle real. Eyes close briefly as she tries to block it out, then tries to shift her focus back to why they were here.

The ick. Find the ick.

"Sera!" the Dread Lord calls out. "Over here!"

He moves over the floorboards looking through the smoke. "I think it's in the basement... if there is one. If not, I think we're having to go to another Dream."

Rhodes looks around for a basement entrance

The duo finds themselves in a modern looking kitchen, brilliantly white, even through the dim shadows, and covetous smoke. Marble counter tops, with a seamless waterfall peninsula. Open shelving, and artfully placed dishes and other knickknacks. They can see the oven, the door open, broken off the hinge, while all four of the stove top's, burners are lit, their flames a startling, impossible black.

The omnipresent heat, is suddenly gone, replaced by the frigid cold.

Glass, dishes and windows, seize, cracking, then shatter.


The hear that howling echoing cry again, "DADDY!"

and now, a new voice.

"KIMMY!"

[Seraphina]

Hearing Rhodes, her attention changes and she moves. Looking at the floorboards, then back, “Maybe there’s a door?” looking around as well.

As the room, er, kitchen comes into view, she has to wonder about the stove. Was this a nightmare for someone? Was someones guilt replaying the events over and over at night? Was it an accident? Or done on purpose?

Before much more thought can be spent on it, the cold takes over. Her arms instinctively wrap around herself as things begin to shatter.

Sapphires look to Rhodes as the new voice enters play, “Did you find a door? Or are we moving to a new Dream?” because the addition of a new voice was a bit unsettling.

A nightmare, clearly. For a moment, the promise of intense Glamour is sorely tempting, leeching the fear from the Dreamer...

Objects begin bursting, exploding, drawing the eye. The Dread Lord steels his focus back onto the task at hand.

Seera's words help bring him back to the present - Rhodes shakes his head. "No door that I could see. But look at the flames. Nothing burns that black. I suspect we are finding the ingress from the next dream, bouncing across the Skein."

He offers a hand to her. "It isn't cold. Only a Dream, darling. Come, cross with me again. We're close, I'm sure, but not there yet."

[Saber Sloth]

The black flames, flicker, raging higher, covering the stove top entirely as they lick up the walls, staining and cracking the white-white-white subway tiles, a black darker then soot.

"KIMMY!" comes the shout, over and over and over, growing closer. Accompanied by heavy steps. "I'm coming!"

As Sera steps through the room, she spies a door, tucked in around the corner to where the fridge was resting, white as everything else in the kitchen.

The girl screams again, "DADDY!" again and again and again, "Da-!" it cuts off.

A howl, anguished and echoing.

The walls start shaking.

[Seraphina]

She knew it wasn’t cold. But when things start shattering around her, it was an instinct.

Accepting his hand, she nods, eyes watching the black flames. And then spots it, a door. But if they were Dream hopping again, they would need a different door.

“I see a door, but not sure if it leads to the basement, or somewhere else in the house.” Then the walls shake, “So we either head down there, or I can try and find us a Gate.” And from the look in her eyes, she was already looking for a Gate, her hand squeezing his.

The Gate is below them. The Dread Lord's instincts proven correct. The white washed floorboards blacken, splintering apart. The wooden shards crumble, as the floor, the house, around them caves into itself.

They are forced to the concrete bed of the basement floor, then they are forced under it. As the dream previous shatters around them.

They are in the Earth. Deep, and think and dark and damp. On their knees, hands still clasped. Each pulling the other with them. They do not loose each other, in the damp, dark.


Beyond the brown and black, they hear screaming, incoherent, intermingled by whimpering. A pleading voice, begging someone to stop. Then a rhythmic thunk of a shovel.
