Pumpkins and Mazes!

[Seraphina]

Laughing with a nod, “They probably do. But the thing with theirs, is there is no creativity in it. It’s the standard flavors. And while it works for them, I find it boring.” More laughing as she raised her fist like Sonnie, “I shall fight it for the good of all mankind!” she declared.

“Oh! I love history! Most of my library is history books.” She admits. It was a little known fact of the Nix, she liked history. “I totally get that! Except my parents put no care into what my grades were.” Their focus was how many sashes and crowns she could win. “Hmmm. And yeah, it makes sense. Have you ever thought of trying it again? I bet there are some books or classes you could find online. And maybe you won’t be as good as you were, but you could try and find that ability to understand it again. And knowing you, I bet you could.” She had faith in the monkey. “Hell, I’d even be willing to give it a go with you if you wanted. But you would have to promise not to laugh at my lack of math abilities.” She says with a wink.

Another laugh, “I hope she doesn’t pee herself, that won’t be fun to get out of the blankets.” She jokes. “I think we should start her with the classics. Like The Shining, or Friday the 13^th. What do you think?” the classics tended to be a safe way to start.

She stops and watches. It made sense, but she held little hope for being to hit anything. But she didn’t care, she was getting to fling a pumpkin across a field!

Shrugging, “Ok.” And pays as she steps up. The temptation was there to put a little luck on her side and hit something, but she didn’t. There was nothing on the line except having fun, and she didn’t need to hit the target for that. So she allows it to pull back really far, deciding to go for distance, and releases the pumpkin.

And it flew! She cheered and clapped, watching it soar through the air. And while it came close to a straw man, it didn’t hit any. But the Nix didn’t seem to care. Still cheering.

“That is awesome!” she exclaims, “I kinda want one! Maybe we could get one for the Tavern?!” she says with wide excited eyes to Sonnie. Surely this would be in the Hedge, what was the worst that could happen?

"Ah, yes, the age old battle between individual creativity and soulless commercialism," she nodded, then blinked in thought, "Did I use those words right?"

Sonnie shrugged, "I have trouble getting up the excitement. Academics just doesn't hold my attention, anymore. Maybe if it were a subject of immediate interest, I dunno." She smiled, however, at the Fairest's show of support, "Don't worry, when it comes to math, I'm not gonna be laughing at anyone!"

"Oh, yeah, definitely those! And maybe The Thing... the one with Kurt Russell. The original Nightmare on Elm Street?" She grinned, "Maybe we can convince her to wear a baby costume so she has a diaper at the ready?" The idea made her giggle.

Seraphina's go at the pumpkin-pult had her cheering! She didn't care that the Nox missed the target, she was clearly having fun. Fugly, caught up in the excitement, howled a little! Sonnie clapped her hands, "Nice try! You almost hit that one scarecrow. You only missed it by, like, six feet?" She guessed, peering at the far off landing site through narrowed eyes, her free hand shading her brow.

"You think?" Sonnie imagined a catapult of some sort at the Spring Hollow. "Might make Circe jealous!" She laughed.

"If you wouldn't mind?" She offered Fugly's leash to Sera, so that she might give the event a try. Once her hands were free, the Beast paid the dude running the catapult, listened to his instructions (despite having heard them already when he told the Fairest), and gave it a try. Sonnie's shot seemed aimed more mid-field, apparently going for a couple of scarecrows that were relatively close together.

Tongue jutting out between her lips as she concentrated, the 'Scrambler wound the catapult back. "Wish me luck, Fugly!" And then she fired!

Her gourd missile soared beautifully through the autumn sky!

And hit nothing. Her pumpkin landed well short of her intended targets and exploded in the yellow grass.

Sonnie blew a raspberry, showing her disappointment, then shrugged and turned back to her friend and her dog with a smile. "Okay, so we're both bad at this. Maybe we should leave the catapults to people who know how to use them. Like... medieval people." She laughed.

[Seraphina]

A thoughtful look, then a shrug, “Sounds right to me.”

Then a sad nod, “Oh, ok. Well that’s too bad, but maybe you’ll find something that catches your interest and you can become the all knowing Sonnie of it!” Sera was nothing but encouraging. Giggling, “That’s good, because I really suck at it!” her worst subject in school.

“Oh! I totally forgot about The Thing! Good call! Yes! Freddy is a must, an important figure of horror.” Then a laugh, “Something tells me she could make a baby costume look sexy. We can just do the pool float thing again, maybe build a fort with them!” the Spring Fort!

Looking again, trying to judge how close she was, she shrugged, “Maybe. But that was awesome!” they needed one of these.

“Let Circe be jealous! We are the fun after all, we need toys to have fun with! Plus, the Tavern would grow in popularity, which is always a good thing.” Cause best Season.

“Oh, of course not!” accepting the leash and scratching Fugly on the head. Pointing things out to him as Sonnie readied the machine.

There was a cheer from Sera as the pumpkin flew through the air! Then cheered louder when it exploded on the ground. "I think yours went further then mine! And exploded better." yup.

“I wouldn’t say we’re bad at it, nope. We just need more practice. Hence why we need to get one. Then we come back next year and blow them all away with our amazing spot on shots!” she sounded quite sure of this.

“We should get our faces painted! And by the time that is done, it should be dark enough for the corn maze!”

"I know a lot about monkeys!" she nodded, referring to the zoo visit back last winter. "I am the all-knowing simian expert."

"She could make a potato sack look sexy," she shrugged, then laughed, "What about a pillow fort? To protect us from the movie monsters! Perfect!" Everyone knew the power of pillow forts, right?

The Beast giggled, "Circe would probably disapprove because our catapult didn't launch explosives or shoot bullets somehow."

Fugly liked Sera, so he was happy to wait by the Fairest's side as his mistress tried to bomb scarecrows with a pumpkin and failed. "You're right. It did explode quite well. Maybe Circe would approve, after all."

"Hm, yes," she nodded, thinking critically as she eyed the catapult, "We should study under a master... um... what's a catapult user guy called? Catapulter? Wait, that sounds a lot like caterpillar."

Then Sonnie just laughed as she imagined a bunch of caterpillars trying to use a catapult. The 'Scrambler's mind went to odd places, sometimes.

[Seraphina]

There was a wide smile, “There you go! And you do! I learned a lot when we were at the zoo! And I’d love to go back again with you sometime and learn some more.” And she was clearly serious.

Chuckling, “That she could. Maybe we should get one and just test the theory. You know, for science.” Where would you even buy one? “Ohhh! Even better! I might have to go and buy some extra pillows, but this is totally happening!” which meant shopping trip!

“Well, I think technically it could launch explosives. But I’m not sure about the zoning laws or if we’d be allowed. Probably need some type of license to do that.” Except in the Hedge, but have to keep up the image of being human.

Nodding, “Who wouldn’t approve of that?! And anyone who doesn’t, can we really trust them? Cause that’s just awesome.” A solemn nod.

“Do they have those?” she asks, looking at the catapult again, “Because if so, we need to take some lessons then blow everyone else away with how awesome we are.” Then a laugh, “It does! And that would create quite a sight! Now I kinda wanna see it happen.” What? It might be cool.

“So face painting? Or go right into the maze? Or more food?” she then looked around, “Too many options!” she seemed to complain, but was smiling.

Chuckling, Sonnie wiped her eyes and took back Fugly's leash, "Oh, those silly caterpillars. Thinking they can work a catapult like people..." What was she going on about?

"Oh, yes! Face painting! Then more food, and then we get lost in the corn maze!" She nodded, finding this a solid plan for the rest of the afternoon. With a laugh, she pushed Seraphina towards the face painting booth. "What do what to be painted as?"

"I can bring pillows from home, too!" The pillow fort was obviously going to happen. This made her happy.

"We'll have the best catapult. One that launches coconuts!" Monkeys and coconuts could be a dangerous combination. "And we'll just practice and get super good and make Circe faint in shock!"

[Seraphina]

Laughing, she lets Sonnie push her towards the face painting. “Hmmm, that’s a good question. How about we pick for each other? I’ll pick a design for you and you don’t get to know what it is until it’s done?” she asks, a sparkle in her eye. It could be fun. Stopping in front of the booth, she looks at the sign, displaying the numerous designs they had.

“That would be great! We have to have the best pillow fort, so the more pillows, the better! Then we get some super soakers and keep the boys away!” would she use squirt guns in her house? Damn right she would if it meant fun!

“Coconuts?” she asks, “That could work. And I would think those would do more damage than pumpkins, could probably knock some out with one! Yes! Coconuts!” this might get dangerous, but that’s ok. “And if someone gets hurt, I can fix em up.” Maybe, she hadn’t attempted to heal another Lost before. “Yes! So that means we have to keep it a secret, and break it out once we’re amazing, then blow everyone away!” then a thoughtful look, “How do we hide it? It’s kinda big.”

"Oh, great idea!" The Beast nodded as they came to a stop before the face painting booth. Her eyes danced over the presented possibilities for a few moments, before she settled on her choice, and she grinned slyly at Seraphina. "Okay, I know what you'll be."

"In that case, I'll bring every pillow I own! Including Fugly's dog bed! He'll be the only boy allowed!" Her eyebrows raised at the idea of supersoakers, surprised that the Nix suggested it. However, Sonnie did not object. Squirt guns were fun! "Coooooool!"

"Yes, coconuts. Nature's cannonballs," she stated. She knelt down and scritched behind Fugly's ears while she spoke, "Um, maybe we can camouflage it? Tell people it's a jungle gym? Or modern art!" The Spring Court loved art! Generally, anyway. Sonnie herself didn't care much one way or the other, but she'd known some Emeralds who were way into the art scene.

[Seraphina]

The sly grin was returned with her own. “See, this is why we have so much fun!” least she hoped the Beast had fun when they hung out. “Did you want to get your face painted first? I shot the pumpkin first, so it’s only fair.” She points out. If the monkey agrees, Sera will point out, secretly, to the artist, the one she picked for Sonnie. The artist had been listening and was amused by the two woman, and Sera tipped her well.

The Nix stepped back and watched, scratching Fugly behind the ears. When the girl was done, Sonnie would see a pretty blue background over which was an adorable fuzzy bat!

“I thought the blue would look good with your eyes.” And she felt she was right!

Laughing, “Am I going to have to pick you up? How many pillows do you own?” not that she would mind picking up Sonnie. “Oh yes! His bed is very important to the fort! And we’ll even make sure he has special treats for the night. The only boy, and the best boy!” she kinda wanted a dog now.

Fugly was so sweet. “So, we can either tell Titania about the super soakers, or surprise her. Have a preference?” she asks a hint of mischief in her eyes. “Speaking of Titania, know what type of candy she likes? Or sweets? Want to make sure I have stuff she enjoys.” She already was thinking of pillows the Spring would like.

Shrugging, “Works for me! And the insides are yummy!” this would be so much fun! “Hmm, both of those should work. We could also try and practice with it on the other side of the Tavern, the one right off the back door. Don’t think anyone really hangs out on that side.”

With a smile and a nod, Sonnie sat down to have her face painted first. Naturally, she had trouble holding still. Her hands fiddled with Fugly's leash a lot, and her feet danced with excited energy. At least she held her head in one place. When it was finally, finished, the Courser checked herself out in the conveniently-placed mirror and laughed, "That's so cute! I'm Batgirl!"

"Um, let's see. The pillows from my bed, from my couch, Fug's bed..." she mentally counted the number of pillows she remembered owning. "I dunno. Eight or nine, maybe? Enough that a car would help, definitely." She chuckled, and the dog barked in response to Sera calling him the best boy. Seems he understood the phrase, or at least that it meant a good thing.

"Okay, okay, your turn! Sit down!" the Beast instructed before whispering her selection to the face painter. When the woman was done, the Fairest's face had been decorated with a Hello Kitty Frankenstein mask!

"Perfect!" Sonnie gave a thumbs up!

"Surprise her, obvs." She seemed to delight in tormenting the Telluric girl, but it was with a sense of affection. Like a teasing sister. "And I have no clue what kind of candy she likes. Maybe I can subtly ask her," she nodded. Could the Steepscrambler do subtle?

"Excellent!" She agreed with Sera, "Before we know it, we'll be catapult masters! And the city shall tremble in fear!" Sonnie embarked on a supervillain-like laugh.

"Mwu-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha!"
