(Memory Lane) Gathering Intel

There, the houses and buildings grow smaller and the land inclines slowly downward. They pass small strip malls and abandoned lots. Huddles congregate on street corners. Here and there, busted lights throw yawing chasms of shadow. At one point they cross over deep drainage channels that vanish underground - part of the flood mitigation network on the city's northern side.

Ronnie G holds court in a small bar squeezed into a space on a strip mall that has seen better days. There is an ethnic eatery; a tiny convenience store; a laundrette; and the bar. Surrounding the mall is the ruined spectacle of an almost empty parking lot. Ragged paintwork hints at battles with graffiti artists, lost and won.

An ugly mark that might, in some wannabe artist's eyes, be a candle remains garishly prominent by the bar's grotty entrance.

The bar is just as grotty within: low ceilinged, bare brick and exceptionally dull furniture. Alcohol stains the air and the floor. The lighting is garishly bad and a flat screen that is too small (and cracked besides) runs through a show from a sports network to an almost vacant room.

A hairy barkeep busies himself cleaning the day's glasses and staring with dull severity at a flat TV screen pulsing with the banality of Fox and sports ball.

Ronnie G sits in a corner near a door labeled "STAFF". Two men in gang colours play chess at an adjoining table.

While her friends go bar hopping, Circe settles down to an evening of hacking.

From your conversations in the previous Memory Lane thread, I gather this was what you wanted. Titania and Rhodes follow up the contact. Circe investigates the website.

Circe gets out of the shower, her laptop booted and running her custom programs. The blue elf is dressed down with short shorts and a half tank that used to give her roommate fits. Once more she is white haired after having washed out the hair dye. Cellphone, pants, shoulder holster, jacket, and boots are readily available in case the others should call for help. It was time to get to work.

Circe has a expensive laptop, giving her a +1 to rolls related to Academics or Computers made with said laptop. Circe has 3 Intelligence, 3 Computers, and a 1 dot specialty in Hacking, for a total of 8 dice. Circe and John have broadband if that applies for another +1 equipment bonus to 9 dice. The Merit Brownie's Boone allows Circe to perform long term mundane work in half the normal time, with an further reduction of the time for one roll by half if she spends a point of Glamour. This means Circe's hacking roll is performed in 15 minutes instead of 30. If there is a Systems Admin to roll against, it is your call if that means Circe rolls twice or she becomes "observed" in her work. If Circe is only doing research and not actually hacking then the dice pool drops to 7 as specialty and signal quality don't help with research.

She strode one step behind him, trying hard to mask her rather conspicuous ogling. Truth be told, they had surpassed themselves with this makeover. The Autumn King truly was their masterpiece, hugged as he was by a pair of washed out form fitting jeans, which looked rather elegant under the black sweater and the brown of his boots. They had picked a caramel wool coat to go with it. Overall, Rhodes looked modern but with style. She had to admit to herself, she had rather enjoyed the process, especially playing with his hair and all those leaves. Besides, the man just looked too good with a stubble.

Rhodes' hand surreptitiously went to his chin as he checked his reflection in a window. Hmm. Somewhat rakish, I suppose. This whole style felt far more informal than his usual fair, but at least is was comfortable, and warm. Not that the cold bothered him much. He allowed himself a small smile as he recalled the way Titania's touch just lingered, the way her wide eyes watched when she was close by, all in the way that betrayed her feelings. It was always pleasant to have one's ego stroked, and the Fairest enjoyed it most of all.

Jolted from his vanity he turns back to the innocent celestial. "Mmm? Oh, why you are in front, of course, Eleanor dear. You know where we're going, after all." He waves in front of him, eyes twinkling.

He can't help but let an eyebrow rise as he stoops into the dingy bar. "So. Who are we here for again?" He offers Titania a reassuring smile. They'd checked all this before, he knew what he was doing.... but it was time for the show.

A system admin working for the Secret Network gets pinged. They swing into action, popping gum and wrapping their lucky bandana over their head.

Then they find themselves fighting a hacker with such skill they are like a blizzard hitting the server from four places at once!

The Sovereign was right, you never want to risk your king out in the open, push your towers forward if you must. And so she went ahead, her hands folded behind her back.

Her head peeked around the corner of the entrance of the seedy establishment, just like a baby bunny stepping for the first time out of its den. She adjusted her biker's jacket, before getting her nostrils invaded by the unpleasant smell of cheap and stale liquor.
"Mr. Ronnie G, look for someone... surly? A rowdy troublemaker", she said still on the threshold. Of course the description was just a figment of her own imagination. All she had was a name and an address. "W...wha... are they playing chess?", she said surprised, "odd", and summoning her courage, she stepped inside.
Maybe there was still time to call Circe?
