(Witch Hunters) House at the End

They had an address. A last link dragged from the reluctant ghost of a Hunter: a safe house for a 'federal' outfit with access to strange monstrosities and a sufficient lack of moral scruples to not only employ it, but burn down whole buildings and put innocent lives at risk for a Hunt few would care for, even understand, let alone accept (who believed in wizards anyway?)

The house was near Elk Grove. A small rectangular house lost in the fields west of the town. It was but one of two houses on the entire street. The other was larger, further back from the road on its block and screened by a mix of light shrubbery and trees.

Their house. Their target was closer to the road and framed by a little garden. Out behind the house were a number of crumbling out buildings, garages and stables. The little house was in need of paint - badly - and a demonically anaemic bush crawled up one side to where it fed on the brackish waters of a clogged gutter. To one side the drive way was filled by a beautifully maintained old Pontiac, one of the big family car's of many years ago, and a chunky new caravan. For all intents, a normal family resided here. There was even a couple of lights on in different rooms.

Phoenyx stands ready, armed with her knives, stick and pistol inder her leather coat. She was nervous, she could feel it. But she's trained for this. She had her Order with her.

She nods, taking a calming breath. "Have care when you look into the rooms with light. They will appear much brighter."

She reaches for the fire, the familier confident screech of ner namesake legendary bird in her ears, and a small smile blossoms as she feels the arcana form into shape.

Kaze is having some trouble. His casts flare and stutter until at last - mercifully - a Glyph takes hold and proves sustainable. He commits to a rote as well, as easy as breathing. The spell fits like a glove, as supple as leather.

@Ruach remember to take into account the penalties for successive attempts when casting, okay?

Phoenyx throws up a little something to assist Alastor as he reconnoitres the block, both physically and through his understanding of scrying portals.

The Nightsight spell flares in a sudden brilliance of illumination for Alastor . Timely, too, as he was exploring the long backyard of the property with its many out-buildings. The shadows no longer became a concern and the Mastigos could see the lay the land with even more nuance. Only his portals into the houses became... bothersome... but his supernal voyages were brief and his star-addled eyes soon corrected themselves.

Alastor checks out the Second House on the street. All is quiet and normal. A father and son bond over beer, tabletop wargaming, and painting their respective armies. A mother and daughter bond over an animated movie.

Alastor checks out the Target House. Front room is a fake: a TV blares away into an empty room. A back room might be fake - a chunky guy with spectacles and a tousled mop of hair is stuck fast to a heavy duty PC. He could be gaming or browsing the internet... Or not. Occasionally he yells out to a woman, who yells back. Alastor can't find her initially, but with some work and a little triangulation, he locates her in an upper room; a room lit by an old kerosene lamp and shrouded by half closed curtains; a room where she is cleaning and stripping some weapons, listening to a solid old walkie-talkie; a room where a giant of a man, wrapped in a military surplus greatcoat, stands drooling in a corner...

The long backyard is made for hiding things. And thanks to Phoenyx's Nightsight, Alastor can clearly make out the track marks through the scrub to the largest shed. In the dim light its single doorway would have been ominous; now it was almost inviting. The Mastigos obliges and tosses a well positioned window into the interior - he finds an empty shed, refuse strewn ground. And a solid door brazenly pointing the way to a basement level.

Kaze listens intently. "How about a...body?" he asks, "That's what they said, that this is where Epitaph's body is...to retrieve it...for a burial."

Phoenyx nods as Alastor completes his scrying of the area.

She stares at him. "The whole house? Hm. I don't have it as Rote. It's a big a space at a moment's notice," she says in a quiet deadpan. "Ritually, sure, but instantly.... I should be able to do one house, at a push, but I can't pull if off a lot.. Area is the big issue with Force Arcana."

[Kaze]

Kaze nods to Alastor and says, "Yes Sir."

He nods towards Phoenyx as well and says to both, "I don't have the rote for it either."

"I have got to work on my rotes." he mutters under his breath. He shrugs and gets ready to move on Alastor's cue.
