The Magi bravely stormed into the building, the smell of charred wood mingling with the stench of charred synthetics. The toxic stench would cling to their hair for days afterwards without magical assistance, a potent reminder of this horrifying scene. Yet, the Magi understood that with great power, came great responsibility, and thus foraged on. They met several people, stumbling and choking down the stairs, though none seemed to know anything besides panic and terror, and with the promise of escape looming ahead, they rushed out of the building.

That left the Magi alone with the raging, unnatural inferno, and sounds coming from the sixth floor.

Running up the stairs, the Magi found the sixth floor absolutely choked with smoke, the cries of MY BABY, DEAR GOD, PLEASE!!! NOO!!!! echoing from an apartment near the far end of the hall, a door reading 66 swinging open...

However, the screams were not the only sounds. A series of loud bangs could be heard coming from Apartment 64, as though someone was desperately trying to break their door down to escape.

Everyone that has not cast Body Control, please roll Resolve+Stamina-3. Failure = -1 on all actions from coughing.
Additionally! Everyone is at -3 to all rolls that require targeting/aiming due to the smoke. Sense Life and Infrared ignores smoke penalty for sight.

Inside apartment 66 there are 3 human life signs pulsing against the backdrop of choking smoke and fire.

Inside apartment 64 there is 1 human life sign.

Also, everyone, please give me Wits+Composure! Smoke Penalties APPLY to those with Sense Life.

[Banshee]

Coughing on the smoke, Banshees presses forward into the smouldering building, the budding inferno. This unnatural hellfire, fitting for these witches who brave this wooden pyre.

The open door, and the crying mother, the perfect bait to this blistering trap. Trap or not, they cannot dismiss the possibility of the opposite being true.

Banshee's attention is arrested from the swinging door and the crying mother(?) to the closed one, and the panicked screaming, the banging hands upon wood. If this carried on long enough all that would be left would be bloodied stumps.

Pressing ever onward, she reaches for the door. Calling upon Stygia and the Entropy that will swallow everything eventually.

"There's three in sixty six, one in here," Knot says as Banshee begins to cast on the door despite the smoke. He looks at the open door to the further apartment, and his senses scream trap. So he plucks at his timeline to see what happens if he enters the room...

...Only to get the mystical equivalent of a 404 error.

Snarling in frustration, Knot brings down the Fire Extinguisher on the now rotted doorknob.

Kelreth gave an interruption notice, so moving on

Knot 's fire extinguisher comes down like a hammer upon the rotted doorknob, snapping it off, and a moment later, Cricket 's foot bashes into the door, sending it flying backward, off it's hinges, bowling over the person trying to escape and breaking over their form.

As spill of long red hear can barely be seen beneath the wreckage of the door, and the sound of horrible, ragged coughing and weezing echoes out into the hallway. Thick black smoke fills the apartment, the woman no doubt moments from death had the door not been beaten down...

And yet, something catches Knot's attention. He hears a sound. A scrape upon the ceiling. Something metallic against wood. The hair on the back of his neck rises as he turns. No human is there, he can sense that. It's just the woman beneath the remains of the door, and the three in Apartment 66. But he saw something.

Something on the ceiling, something large, skittering behind a veil of smoke into the apartment across the hallway.

For an Order that most outsiders see as a collection of stuffy librarians, it's amazing the things that a proper Mysterium apprentisceship prepares you for. Spooky-ass spider monsters weren't even at the top of the list of things Knot had at least one lesson on.

"Get her out of here!" He calls out to Cricket. Regardless of what he was casting on the Sleeper, she'd be disoriented and in major danger. Not to mention that her presence? Endangered them even more.

She had the Abyss in her.

His curses however, or at least the one he was using, were slick enough to get through the Abyss without notice. And the best thing about spooky-ass, inhuman spider monsters?

You didn't have to feel bad about cursing them.

Frustration, when firing off a curse that ricochets off the thing? More acceptable.

Langdon? Freeze? You bet he did. The hallway is what Langdon thinks hell may look like. Though he kept breathing and coughing though could be worse. Knot's warning cuts through though.

"Company? Ceiling?" O gods." What the fuck a spider. Langdon looks to Knot in horror. "Save the others or go after that thing?" Yep completely out of his depth.
