(PrP) Tunnel Crawl III

The tension, taut, atmosphere erupts. Ogre's grunt, lost in the reverberating cacophony of a shotgun roar. Somehow, even the stylised opening of Mhairi's war fans cuts through the air.

The Ogre lunges for the hungry Thorns. He doesn't make it. Stumbling and stunned, he doesn't quite reach the cover offered by the suddenly writhing Hedge.

Beyond the path, the Thorns make what can only be called a vegetable susurrus of pleasure.

"Fuck!" the Elemental cries out, instinctively covering his freshly opened wounds. Another would follow if he had time to blurt it out - the whoosh of a projectile followed by a thunderous bang scared the hell out of him. It must have Tobias scared, too, as he makes a clumsy effort for the Thorns.

"No you don't..." Quick chides, zeroing in and taking a swing.

Circe can't help the satisified smirk as Tobias fails to run away. Back to business, she pulls the trigger to release another loud BOOM.

It'd be easier if Quick hadn't been so up close of is she didn't care for his safety. But neither were the case.

The assault dosen't let up, even as the Ogre tries to flee.

Mhairi swallows her bile as she watches the pitiful creature on the ground, Quick to one side and Cice with her shot gun on the other. No way to get near and end this cleanly with the moon sickle edge of her fan against his neck.

Knowing she must act, to do otherwise would cast doubts upon the actions here, attacking their guide, Mhairi witch-queen and Ask-wee-da-eed rematches out with wyrd and glamour both.

The obvious failure of the Orge brings a smile to her face.

They needed him to keep failing, but she knew the risks of her own Contracts, and couldn’t help with that one again.

Quick moves in again, and Circe fires her gun. And that gun, firing at both Tobias and Quick is what helped her stay back. What if the Elf hit Quick?!

So she does something else.

It was time to Bless Quick, try and help him. If it didn’t help bring the Orge down, she’d have to go in for close combat. And if Circe ended up shooting her, then, well, she’d deal with it when it came.

Sera uses Favored Fate on Quick, giving his next instant action a +4

The assault does not let up. Tobias flails his arms as he tries to deflect the rain of blows but it is to no avail. Then Circe's shotgun rings out once more.

Tobias Yazgad, Ogre, drops to the fecund ground mere inches from the comparative safety of the Thorns.

Tobias is dead. He takes 1B from Quick and cops another 4L from Circe. Tobias' Health track is full and the left over Bashing damage upgrades to Lethal.

Tobias is dead. The though echoes and Mhairi feels bile rise. he was trying to run away they'd turned on the ogre because of his...proclivities. But...the tried to flee instead of tearing into them. Did that make them monsters? Was she so focused on Tobias' sins that it blurred everything else? Black and white. Good or bad. When life wasn't like that at all.

Mhairi swallows down the acrid sludge still rising and give a shaky breath.

"Do we explore the castle? Go back for Tobias'...friend? He might come after us for...this." she frowns, uncomfortable as she folds her fans and places them back into their hip holsters. "Also. There's still the Margraves. The Magravate of the Brim." she says grimly.

[Circe]

Since Tobias was clearly not moving the elf dug into a pocket. She pulled out a pair of shotgun shells and took the time to reload. As for Mhairi's question she shrugged, "Course he'll come after us. Ya decided to attack the cannibal's bro cannibal. Unless ya wanna try hiding the body. Eh, at least I can take the revolver."

She finished reloading, "Don't see much point in the tower. I thought the plan was diplomacy, not ambush murder," she grinned as she cast an aside glance to Quick and then Mhairi, z"Ya two need to work on yer communication skills. Like these Margraves. Who they be? And where? And what're they likely to do about the whole killing Tobias and Globby?"

[Seraphina]

And it was done. Their guide was dead.

The Nix was still confused on the whole meaning behind them having to kill him.

A heavy sigh, “Well, we might as well head back. Once he finds out his friend here isn’t coming back, we’re going to have targets on us. Like Circe says, he’s going to come for us.” Weary eyes watch as the elf reloads, “The tower is moot at this point.” Not that she was eager to explore it, but still.

“And yeah, we need a little more communication here. I like to have a heads up as to when we’re going back on our word and killing.” She wasn’t impressed. Sure, she trusted Mhairi and Quick, but this was out of the blue. A hand rubs the back of her neck, "I trust you guys and all, but seriously"

Tobias Yazgad is dead.

The Hedge is not picky. Already, thorn laced vines are creeping out and wrapping themselves tenderly over the Ogre's broken body. Lovingly, the dead changeling is drawn into the Thorns.

The silence thickens around them.

Tobias Yazgad is dead. An Ogre, yes, but one of the Lost. One of their own kind. Murdered in the Hedge. And they all, in one way or another, contributed to it. As the Hedge draws its chosen prey into itself, the full import of their actions becomes clear.

@Circe Mhairi Ankaa Seraphina and Quick have committed a break point for their Clarity (p91 and following in Changeling 1st Ed. Core). They will each need to succeed on a 3 dice Degeneration roll to avoid Clarity loss. To keep things moving, include the Denegeration roll in your next post.
