Making the Cabal

Michael trailed into the unknown, following their unofficial leader, Campanella to find their hallowed prize. His choice of attire made it easy and even comfortable to traverse the terrain.

"The few connections I have are from the religious background and.., the local gang of Oak Park... " he admited the last part with a touch of bitterness in his tone. "They kind of respect me becauase I help the community."

Bolide's argument mutes the Archangel for a couple of second, but he soon remembers the statement of the Right of Crossing.

"As long as VT don't go around doing shit, we can't keep them from crossing our turf, am I right?"

His mind drifts as they mention the need of a name... he too wasn't good with those at all. "The Exchange sounds good... As for a theme... We're going to be a bunch of Wise exchanging our knowledge and doubling as guardians of the Circle. We could be themed after guards or guardians or something..." Another moment of silence before a idea pops into his mind. "... Or Gargoyles! Both as a name and theme... Gargoyles of Rancho Cordova or something like that. This name focus on our watchmen side rather than our knowledge pursuers side, though."

Also...

"Marguerite, Bolide...You guys are Obrimos, like me. If we ever form a cabal we could explore some teamworking. I have a few spells in mind that can benefit from a team casting and they suit a situation of defense and attack, of course pretty good."

Bolide's words strike a chord.

Campanella stops, pauses, turns back to the group.

"Yes..." He draws out the word. "Thank you. I had completely forgotten about that. How a claim could be viewed or... enforced."

He paused again, a void into which Archangel Michael spoke.

Then: "Perhaps not claim then. Not in a formal sense." A shrug. "We could still be based out this way, yes? Proximity to the Circle alone would allow us to keep tabs on it. For everyone."

"Exchange sounds... good. It was my hope to develop better means of sharing knowledge between us - within reason of course." Campanella was still a mystogogue; knowledge had to be earned, not freely (and unwisely) given. But if their group could specialise as a think-tank on certain issues, surely that was an advantage they could use?

He refrained from pressing on when the Archangel addressed the other Mighty; and it dawned on the Moros suddenly how many of them there were.

She looked to Michael as he spoke of his own religious connections, "Oh? I am most familiar with the sisters of the Church." Their "superiors" too, but they were rarely her first call. "If you have community projects I would be most interested in joining you. Service can be its own reward." She wasn't a glutton for charity, but she believed God would forgive her if she put in a few hours, even without the purity of purpose shining its brightest at all times. Everyone needed something to confess.

She raised an eyebrow at the idea of gargoyles. "I am not sure I like the mascot but -- they were guardians of the Church and sacred spaces, from what I understand. It does have its kind of beauty, I suppose."

As Campanella seemed hesitant in the idea of an open forum, at least for the arcane elements, she added plainly, "Then we should figure out our own exchange rate first. Everyone should be given their due -- but I know where being new puts me. I will be plain. If I am to be the intern then it will be with the Ladder. I expect lesser tension if we are creating a bond beyond our respective groups." She smiled to soften it. She would talk shekels if they had to. In fact, she thought there was a beauty in an evenly weighted scale. Nice if it tipped her way, but good things come to the blessed.

She had happily fallen into the groove of walking, stopping short as Campanella paused with Michael's Obrimos call out. She was able to pivot easily enough and turn to face them, hand moving to adjust her bag's strap, "Yes, I would be very interested in seeing where our paths have led us all so far. If there are rituals that would benefit the many, along with aiding us each in our practice I see no reason not to work together on such things."

"I actually rather liked the Exchange. It's easy to remember and directly references our purpose." Bolide said as he again began to move with the group down the path. He didn't mind the idea of identifying with imposing stone guardians, but the religious connotations they started discussing didn't jive with him the way it does with other Obrimos.

The Apostate's nose scrunches up slightly as Michael mentions gangs and 'Wise', small scale street peeps with the pretentious pros the Ladder loved so much. He honestly never thought he'd hear those groups mentioned by the same individual without directly disparaging one of those groups. His mention of VT gets a grudging nod, but his mention of group rituals gets his attention more.

"I'm good for the group casting, but I'm not so great with Forces. As I said at Concilium, I'm more for Matter and Prime." And with that his attention shifts to Campanella. "Pretty sure that would pair me with you if you can sharpen blades like you said."

"And yeah, we should definitely stay out here." Bolide says as he gives the Moros a nod to the affirmative. "I'm just not a fan of conflict, and the whole crossing thing seemed like a major red light as far as that goes."

As Marguerite started asking about exchange rates, Bolide began to ponder. "Could just leave it to individual discretion. Information has a different meaning for different people, and that leaves potential costs pretty subjective. I'd say let the teacher decide what that knowledge is worth to the new student."

Where she wasn't an Acanthus anymore, she couldn't claim to arrive when she was supposed to. Not this time. This time being late was just her being late, if it was a problem, she could address it with them. If not, even better, cause she hated explaining herself to anyone.

So the tall blonde Shaman approaches the group, dressed casually. By casually it was her workout clothes, cause she had training to do. Knee length yoga pants hugged her long legs and a white fitted shirt was on over a pink sports bra. Her long hair was up and she had her sunglasses on. Today there was no coffee or caffeinated drink, only a bottle of water. A fairly large gym bag was over her shoulder and sneakers were on her feet.

A hand was raised in a silent greeting as she approached, "Hey guys, sorry for being late. Would blame it on my Path, but with that not being a thing anymore I can't." there was a shrug and a smile, glasses get pushed up on her head, revealing her blue eyes, "Did I miss much? Or should I leave cause too much has been said and no one wants to share?" she asks with a joking tone, but with a small hint of seriousness. She was late, and maybe they wouldn't want her in the new Cabal, it was a possibility.

"I think the Exchange is a fitting name for a group. It will take time of course, to build up things that we can exchange but I believe the focus will be worth it." He had been starting to walk again but the sight of Faye hurrying behind but him up short. Again.

He waited while the Thyrsus caught up to the group. And yes, he was probably admiring the riveting woman at the same time.

"No. We have really on just started. I called us here today to go hunting for a Hallow, which I believe must lie in these woods*. And we have made some progress on working out what we would want as a Cabal. We may have a name and a purpose - long term purpose but still a purpose. The Exchange - working toward sharing of information."

He was starting to smile.

"We also have some consensus as to where we'd be setting down roots. Just how we'd do it... is... being debated." A nod to Bolide.

*Nothing planned in this social for it, but is a good reason to frame us all walking in the woods.

Her lips pursed for a moment but she did have to concede to Bolide's logic. "Laissez Faire does not mean unfair, it is true. As it is with holdings for the Cabal, we will have to build such things together. I should be more trusting."

She hadn't expected the name to stick. If she had, she would have gone with something flashier -- but too late now. Curse the tongue of a prophet. With the talk of rituals and spheres she added, "I am sure there are still many things we could do together. Forces is not so known to me as Prime, I do also understand the basics of Spirit." Speaking of, she beamed as Faye arrived. "Oh, no. I am pleased you were able to make it, I was hoping you would. We truly were only just beginning."

She ponders as she takes stock of the various pieces so far. "Hm, I suppose -- Michael and I have connections to the Church. You said," she looked to Campanella, "That you had an accountant with perhaps too much time on their hands. A charity organization -- or community meeting ground of some kind would be possible. Who would fault us for laying claim to something that seeks to open borders between us all?"

She looked to Faye and smiled, "We could even organize entertainment for the city." She had heard more things of Madison Cross's wardrobe than skills, but that was a result of her circles more than anything else. "Such things are excellent for bringing people together. Perfect for keeping an eye on the shape of things."

She did pause as she looked around at the less than urban area. "It would depend on location, even out here, but we could create what is needed if we must. Funding can be found. We would need only a few private spaces if it is otherwise seen as campgrounds or the like."

"Oh, there comes Faye. Thought you'd not come." The Thyrsus gets a wave from Michael. "We're mostly trying to get a name and a purpose, which it seems we already got. The debate now is: location..."

The Obrimos stopped for a moment to unzip his jacket. A few more minutes and he'd have to take it off.

"Attracting attention could prove useful to cement ties with social circles. Charity events or even a fully-fledged organization would grant us a lot of visibility and a network in turn. Everybody loves charity... I don't know which places you have in mind, but Oak Park could use this." His suggestion comes with a smile. He was always eager to shed some light in this place that God forgot.

He finally nods to Bolide. "Sound good enough, Bolide. No one better to price your knowledge than yourself."

Bolide offered Faye a simple smile as she approached. "The more the merrier." He didn't object to a larger group. In fact, the more naturally charismatic individuals they could involve, the less likely it was Bolide would have to put his abysmal attempts at small talk out into the open.

Campanella's nod is returned, though Bolide had nothing further to burden the burgeoning cabal with in terms of territory. Marguerite's idea to use their house for strangers to come around and 'bond' gets a nervous look, as did Michael's approval of such.

"I think we're more likely to find a cabin or someone's house in the woods. Probably for the better that way, as I really don't like the idea of sleepers or Joe Shmoe the secret Seer wandering into our space during our oblations because it's labeled a public institution."

Not shattering the Veil everyday you do morning Oblations seemed like a given to Bolide, but then he was also finding a home with people far more extroverted then himself. Part of him wondered if he worried to much, but another wondered if they were going to get shivved in their sleep by Guardians when they catch wind of what was being planned. Put this mage on the safe side.

Smiling, “A Hallow in the woods? Have to say, that would be different than the other Cabals.” Faye wasn’t really an outdoorsy type girl, despite her background in Ren Faires and traveling.
“And names worked out? Do share!” the Shaman was curious.

When the other blonde brings up entertainment, “Well, what type of entertainment did you have in mind? Mine is a little more specialized and not shows for the faint of heart or one that everyone enjoys.” She wasn’t sure if Marguerite was referring to what she did for work or not. Or if the woman even knew what Faye did. “But I do agree, shows and entertainment are wonderful ways to get people together. They also help spark conversations between strangers, it’s great to watch how people come together at shows.” Well, from an entertainer point of view anyways.

And then it sounds like they really were talking about making out here a Cabal home base. Blue eyes look around the wilderness, not really liking it.

“So I take it you guys have decided upon making out here a home base of sorts?” she wasn’t opposed to the woods, but she liked her comfy loft and the sounds of the city.

Grinning to Michael, “I wouldn’t miss this.” She might be late, but bailing on discussing a Cabal wasn’t her style.

“Huh, have to say, never had a Seerer or Sleeper walking into my space before. Is this a common problem?” cause if it was, then it was news to her.
