"People talk," Brother Rat replies to Faye's welcome. "What can I say? But no, I haven't gotten my Robes yet. I know I will someday though."
He grimaces at the Friar Tuck question. "God, I hope I'm not the comic relief. I don't think my ego can handle that." Brother Rat shakes his head. "I like rats. They have a bad rap, but they helped me through my Awakening. It felt appropriate, honoring their... sacrifice. And the Brother title is to remind myself to be a Brother to others." He spreads his hands, silently apologizing for the saccharine idealism of the statement. "So please, don't take it as a rebuke on my part, but it's Brother Rat. Not Bro, not Bruh R, not Bro Rat, or Rat-Bro. Or at least in a non-emergency context, please."
"The slightly more involved and pretensions reason is because cities are their own, sacred, thing. Like a church." Brother Rat smiles, moving his hands back and forth like he's handling a physical representation of his thoughts. "It's full of sacred, secret places that most Sleepers are blind towards. But cities have their own lives, a spirit. I don't mean a [i]spirit[i]-spirit-esque reflection in the Shadow. They have their own personality and they're living things for all that they're made of dead matter. I feel like I have a duty to find and shepherd those places, and see to the health of the congregation so that there's something to appreciate when they're ready to see it. A lot of my travels have been mostly about moving from city to city and getting a feel for the zeitgeist, as it were. If I'm going to be that kind of priest for the Awakened Nation, I needed a Name that represented what that meant for me."
