Juan and Rina speed through the night in the car leaving the apartment behind. As they move on to the suburbs a brief news report airs on the radio, documenting a inferno in one of the buildings in Florin. Fire-fighter teams are already on the scene, covering everything with foam but it is unlikely that any evidence will survive the onslaught of flame and chemicals.

Jim's address ends up being a two-storey house which must have been well-kept at one point or another. Now the grass is knee-tall, the windows are covered with thick dark drapes and animal statues in the yard look dirty and feral after having been worn down by the elements for some time.

The Kindred park a short distance away from the house. The night is still quite young, which is good. The fact that both of them still have a fair amount of highly flammable gasoline on them - isn't.

The time for messing around is over. Despite the gasoline on her, the little Shadow doesn't have time to stop at home and change, and, at this point, pulling off the thick clothing would hurt more than it could help, right up until they shot fire at her. Maybe they'd have a shower in there to wash it off with later.

Rina grabs her katana and stalks towards the building. She keeps low, using other nearby fences to break up sight, and keeps to the darkness, where she is the ruler. Unfortunately, even the shadows betray her. The lights cross her, and she is clearly visible to anyone with a mind to look.

      Somehow, nothing to stealth.

In an effort to preserve some self-respect, the Shadow watches the building, trying to spot if there was anyone that might have seen.

Before the Daeva had a chance to warn the Mekhet, she was off. He looked down at his gasoline tainted leather jacket and pants, "Damn it." He learned from his previous encounter with Armond. Cordoba took off his jacket and padded his jeans with the fabric inside of the jacket. Better than nothing.

Drawing his katar, he followed to where he saw Rina, trying to keep low to the ground amongst the grass as best he could. It was definitely one time where being tall was not to his advantage. He quickly surveyed their surroundings.

    Perception for Juan and Rina

    Perception for Rina

As the two Kindred stalk toward the house, stepping on branches and tripping a couple of times, nothing stirs. The property is as silent as ever, nearest houses at least a hundred feet away beyond the fence. It doesn't look abandoned per se but certainly neglected.

Juan and Rina make it closer to the front door, which is locked.

Picking the front lock is Dex + Lar -2, target number of successes is 5 (you can roll up to your Dex + Lar times). If you want to check the house for other possible entrances, it's Wits + Larceny -2.

Well, at the very least it seemed like no one was paying attention. That boded well for the rescue party. If nobody was guarding the house, it meant security was lax, and if security was lax, breaking in would be much, much easier. Rina approaches the front door, and pulls out her lockpicks. She kneels before it, and the picks go in, pushing tumblers up and down. Nothing. This door is more stubborn than it seems, and she fails to make it through at all.

      2suxx over 4 turns, fail.

Her failure complete, the Shadow puts her picks away and starts moving, looking for alternate ways in. The frustration at the stubbornness of the door fills her with a simple desire to kill everyone inside, again. At least the Asp wouldn't hesitate.

Watching the silent Mekhet work fail to unlock the door the Daeva shook his head in annoyance. "Only one way in as far as I can see." Throwing a thumb to the obstacle, "Should we try luring one through here? I'll knock then you ambush the bastard who answers?"

Rina shakes her head. "There are other ways in." Fingers point to the windows. "But I am not sure even I could make them. That seems...agreeable. I could also simply knock down the door." Rina was good at smashing doors. It was just a simple fact.

Nonetheless, she steps to the side of the door, moving her katana to clip onto her belt. One hand grabs the hilt, the other grabs the sheath right at the top. Ready to react, she nods at Juan.

Juan looked up at the window and nodded in agreement, "That'd just make things much worse." His eyes went back down to the Japanese warrior. "Here we go." He stepped in front of the door, balling his fingers into a fist and pounded on the door three times. The Daeva stepped back and to the side, allowing for him to be seen from at an angle, yet out of immediate reach.

Seconds pass in silence before fast tapping can be heard on the other side of the door, getting louder. It stops soon after and only an occasional growl disturbs the silence, accompanied by scratching.

Otherwise, it's quiet as nobody seems in a hurry to open the door Juan has been pounding on.

You can roll Animal Ken -1. On success you can tell that it sounds a whole lot like a large dog in there and probably more than one. They don't bark too which is weird: it means they aren't trained to scare away intruders. On failure you can tell there is something growling and scratching but what it is and what exactly is its training remains a mystery.
