New Year's madness is here:( I'll keep posting but will be back in full force only on the 3d of January when I'll be back from my relatives in St. Petersburg.

Luckily for the two Kindred, the book isn't some occult tome that requires careful study as the facts they are looking for are all on the surface. Emily Saunders' father, Albert Saunders, died at forty of a heart attack, leaving behind three children, Emily being the elder among them. His own mother, Pamela Saunders had two kids and died at thirty seven in a car accident.

The pattern repeats: the elder child dies when their own elder child reaches the age of eighteen. Younger children seem to live long, normal lives.

"It seems as though the family curse isn't just bull shit. It could still be a coincidence,, a rather ominous one, but still.." he said with a frown. Richard presses his finger to the page to trace the family linage up, he wants to see just how long this 'family curse' has been going on and approximately how many times has the pattern repeated itself. If it was something that has only been documented over the last two or three generations then it would be easier to dismiss it but anything more and this begins to smell of outside influence, rather that be from kine or something even more treacherous. Still, he wasn't ready to count out humans capacity for cruelty. A family like this, with this much wealth could easily have enemies that ran in shady circles, Richard has heard rumors of entire families being laid down for pissing off the wrong people. Who is to say that this isn't the result of some beef in the upper echelon.

Emily Saunders' elder son is 15 years old. The pattern has existed since the end of the 19th century when the author of the book you are looking for died.

"Huh," says Konrad, following Richard's observations. "I doubt they haven't noticed. Though a heart attack and a car accident aren't exactly a consistent medical condition. So definitely seems to fall under curse territory," remarks Konrad. But with three years to go, perhaps Emily Saunders has time to insure her legacy.

"It's got to have something to do with that book. I doubt she'll let us have a look at it let alone take it off her hands," he adds, lowering his voice to Richard, wondering if perhaps it had been too long since Harold left them alone. The thought occurs in Konrad that someone might be eavesdropping to get a better sense of their characters. Konrad would've done it in their position.

"Then again, she seems a most charitable woman," he says distinctly, walking over to the door they entered and reaching for the knob to take a peek outside it.

Chris hopes that the butler's mental image was right, and that the door is closed, but unlocked.

So he tries to open the wooden door then. If an alarm would go off, well, shit. But then still he could grab the book and make it to the door, right?

What's unlife without it's risks?

If he manages to open the door, he will peek inside first, if things seem safe, he'll step inside - with his left hand first. He's seen enough traps to be paranoid.

As Konrad moves away to check the door, Richard returns his attention to the book. He knows that eventually he will need to put the book back, though the thought of stealing the family genealogy as well did cross his mind but it was an unnessicary risk that could compromise the entire job. After all if this book was noticed missing before Chris managed to locate the true goal the whole thing would be a bust for absolutely no reason. Reluctantly, Richard prepares to tuck the book back from where he grabbed it but first he takes one more quick flip through it's pages, looking for anything that might stand out from the information that they had already gathered. Afterwards he returns the book.

Konrad and Richard

It was a very good idea to peek behind the door and not open it wide. What Konrad sees there is more than a little disconcerting.

Harold is standing , smiling with a sort of an aloof grin. The posh, prim and very British butler is pretty much gone in this half-zen half-feral man. Or maybe that is just the impression Konrad got in that brief moment that he got a glimpse of a very, very big gun in the butler's hands.

Near him is a younger, leaner man with a drawn blade that looks like a modern short-sword.

Chris

Wooding walks into a room to find it empty, at least empty of people. It is a rather spacious closet, maybe 35 square feet and it is filled with various assorted crap from top to bottom. For example, there is a stand with about a dozen expensive-looking nicely-crafted throwing knives. That for some reason start to rattle violently in their housings when Chris gets near.

Konrad, Richard and Chris, roll Init. Chris, please also roll Perception and Int + Occ -1.
