Murder weapons, Abysally tainted, maybe even soul stealing tools. That's what the Tass knives were. Of course, they had always spooked the Mystagogue; Tass knife shows up with a dismembered body in your order HQ and that's not supposed to scare you?

    Bullshit

But Orpheus had thought that he would be able to handle them. That he could find out what they were for and safely dispose of them with the help of Mimir's Well. After seeing what they'd been a part in though,

Now he felt like he knew all he wanted to know and more about the knives' and now he was alone. The best course of action was to lock them away, somewhere that nobody could get hurt by them, and maybe someday someone wiser than himself could take a look at them.

As it was, just getting the knives to the museum from his personal sanctum was a challenge in itself.

He'd given Gina a quick call, to let her know he was coming and that he was carrying potentially (if that hasn't already been proven) dangerous material. Now, while the rest of the circle group was doing their thing, the Mystagogue was just coming inside the doors, Tass knives sitting in the same scroll containers they'd always been carried in.

Honestly, he wasn't sure how safe that was anymore.

    Gina was... concerned.

Most of the sleeper workers in the Museum proper have gone home for the night, making the Museum feel all the more cavernous. The shadows were longer, the echos were louder, and the ceilings taller. Gina grabbed a small, hard-candy and popped it in her mouth letting the taste calm her nerves. Orpheus' terse call had her worried.

    Dangerous Materials.

That was a thought that rolled around her mind while she paced around her desk. Spying Orpheus nearby, the Factotum sprang into step; intercepting the Obrimos while also leading him back towards the Curator's Mundane Office.

Gina spoke as she walked, “I hope you didn't run into too much trouble is that,” a pointed glance to the scroll case, “what you spoke about on the phone?

Orpheus nodded solemnly, falling into step with the sleepwalker. "No more trouble than usual." The Obrimos momentarily placed a hand over his ear. "And yeah, uh..." He was rather reluctant to bring it up, but... "I'm sure you remember O'Falley?" He shook his head, nobody deserved to see that. Already he regretted bringing it up.

"Thanks for hanging around so late Gina." He quickly tried to shift topic. She'd always been around, Gina. Someone he always noticed but in all his time here he'd never really spoken to her before, it was... Weird, really.

Orpheus' mere mention of O'Falley was enough to make Gina stop in her tracks. Her skin grew paler and when she noticed that Orpheus had kept going, she daintily rushed to fall back into step with him. The image of the mangled mound of flesh, the lack of genitalia, the smell of death and rot and decay flashed in Gina's mind and she tried to shake herself free of the memory.

Yeah...” Gina replied to the Mystagogue lamely. The fact that the Wise had yet to catch the murderers filled her with a fear and anger she almost forgot about. “Yeah, no problem.

Getting to the Curator's mundane office, Gina pauses and then raps quickly on the door.

    Enter,” was Tyria's response.

Gina allowed Orpheus and herself entry, closed the door, and moved to stand like a ghost near to Tyria. Tyria glanced pointedly between the scroll case and back to Orpheus, waiting for the explanation.

Orpheus was quiet as he realized Gina had stopped and had to catch up, in fact he winced slightly. He didn't know what else to say though, was there anything you could say?

Then the Curator bid the two in.

There was something about the Curator that had simply frightened him. Now the Obrimos was beginning to get a sense of what it was, or at least he was finding something to fool himself into thinking. It was probably just him, but it always felt like you were on the verge of failing her expectations, and for some indescribable reason, Orpheus really didn't want to fail her expectations.

He took a quick breath to calm his nerves. "I'd like to submit these materials to the Athenaeum for safekeeping." He declared. Holding the container ever so tighter he added "These are the Tass Knives found with the bodies of older consilium officials."

"As it is, I believe that Left-Handed were using these knives to... Steal souls." Not just sleeper, but Awakened souls. He'd remembered the explanation, the souls of Mages were much harder to remove than those of Sleepers. Orpheus figured that the knowledge to achieve something of that degree was equally hard to learn and use.

Among the Left-Handed they were chasing, at least one of them has to have that kind of understanding, surely. He tried to imagine what it must be like, to have your own soul ripped from you. The attempt was unpleasant, to say the least.

Orpheus shifted uneasily, the gist of his explanation given.

Steely. There was no other word for Tyria's gaze as she looked directly at Orpheus as he explained or, rather, intimated what he held in his hand. The Curator was as still as a statue. Tyria made no movement, no twitch, no shift of her feet as she stared at the Obrimos. Finally, she looked to her side, sending Gina away immediately.

The Factotum's golden tresses trailed behind her as she left the room, quietly closing the door behind her.

The rest of this conversation,” Tyria states, a quiet edge in her voice, “is not for Gina's ears. She may be a Factotum and has undergone their initiation but she is not Awakened. Understanding is beyond her.” Harsh, but ultimately true. That was always Tyria's way.

Reaching for her keys, Tyria moved to lock up her office and told Orpheus, “Come,” as she breezed by him. The long walk towards the now familiar Maintenance Door was as silent as the grave.

Once inside the Athenaeum proper, Tyria told Orpheus, “I have all of the time in the world. I would like a full explanation and as much as you know about these knives I'm about to put under safe-keeping in this Athenaeum.

Orpheus nodded solemnly, and followed dutifully. The silence threatened to take all the temperature from the room, and Orpheus felt like he'd felt his temperature drop a few degrees.

Inside the Athenaeum, and at the Curator's request, he started "These knives-" he motioned "were found alongside the bodies of former consilium officials, including our own O'Falley. The others include Mike Tamwood, Rosh, Qadesh, and most recently, Triquetra."

Tyria probably knew more about them then Orpheus did, at least more of O'Falley. She'd also know how badly of a state they were left in.

After all, she'd left a letter next to O'Falley's corpse.

"The knives themselves are Tass, and carry an Abyssal resonance that reacts violently in the presence of high speech in conjunction to active Willworking. The reactions include, well, this sort of deafening scream and severe seasickness is the best way I can describe it. Each knife seems to have a different reaction, but I've never seen the others triggered." He explains. "Furthermore, direct or prolonged contact with the knives cause them to... Leech the mana stored in our patterns." that he could attest to.

Lastly, the part that messed with him the most. "At the Circle, Animus used Death to display the final moments of Triquetra, and a body double that was found. That's when we saw... Her Soul was taken from her..." He said finally. "and stored in a jar." Orpheus stopped himself a moment, feeling the need to clear his throat.

"I've no idea if the theft of the soul was a function of the knife, or the Left-Handed we saw." for obvious reasons, he wasn't about to check. It only made sense from a logistical sense though, they were working as a group. That lead the Mystagogue to possibility that not all of them had the knowledge to steal awakened souls.

If they did, though, they were truly fearsome mages.

"Regardless, that's everything I know of them." he finished.

    Tyria Primoria| Curator | SL •• (Elegant)

Tyria's mind was its own Athenaeum and as Orpheus spoke, she began to walk its halls. Flotsam and Jetsam hung about the place mingling with memories of the past, memories of the present, and memories of futures that may not actually occur.

Her lips drew into a thin line at the mention of O'Falley's death.

It seems they hold curses,” Tyria states plainly, “and their owners leave them as traps for us to find. Throwing salt in the wound, as it were, while stating in no uncertain terms who they serve.” A beat, “If you do not have the key, then, it will punish you; as you, no doubt, have found out. It also tells us that the enemy has a tainted Hallow.” Tyria does not state the obvious: that the enemy has been here for so long that they've gotten comfortable and have corrupted a Hallow.

The Curator pauses, “You were right in bringing them here, they are too dangerous for you or your cabal to keep.

Their Athenaeum was not Vault III (a shame), but the Curator would bear the brunt of this just the same. “We have a new arrival into this city, by the name of Saitain Autolycus . He has been trained in the skills needed to secure these knives and you will enlist his assistance.” Tyria looks pointedly at Orpheus, “Understand?”

Orpheus listened to the Curator's input wholeheartedly. Curses, then. The Obrimos would remember the qualities. The point about the hallow also caught his attention, Hallows could be traced, although Orpheus had never done personal work with Ley Lines. He'd have to bring it up with the group next he saw them.

The mention of Auto. Orpheus nodded and replied "Done."

    Think we're good to go!
