(C Tears) Pruning the weeds

[Jennifer Hazelton]

Jennifer drives slowly out from the club, expecting Mr. Galloway to follow her in his own vehicle. She drives to the edge of the business sector of Sacramento. She parks in a parking lot and awaits for Mr. Galloway to park, escorting him towards her business.

"I do hope you had a good time." Jennifer states to him. She unlocks the business and lets Mr. Galloway enter first. It was a rather plain room with a register, a main store room and a back green house where flowers were in bloom. There was a large work table in the room, set with four chairs. It was here that Jennifer takes a seat and gestures for Mr. Galloway to sit down.

"Make yourself comfortable, Mr. Galloway." She invites. "I hope you don't think me rude for not addressing some of your questions in the club. I am a bit paranoid of speaking of plans where we can be seen and heard. Please, tell me what you saw at the club, if you would."

Jennifer leans forward, watching Mr. Galloway with interest.

August had left the club, following Jenn's lead rather easily for a Lord. All the practiced humbleness before the Spear was clearly a skill that was applicable everywhere...such was the Icarians thoughts as he drove along to the Unconquered place of work, it would seem. As August parked his car, a pale, near ghostly pearl Cadillac from the 1950's by the look of it that had been kept in peak condition or restored remarkably well, he cleared his thoughts to better focus on the matter at hand. He took only a moment to put his tie back in place and make sure he looked presentable once more before exiting the car.

At the Madame Notaries invitation to enter first, he would politely decline and insist ladies first...but if a second request to enter first came he would do so without argument.

"Most folks where I come from just call a comfortable level of paranoia caution, Madame Notary." came the smooth southerners voice as he took his seat, and looked across to his hopefully-soon-to-be-official compatriot. "...and I had an excellent time. It was quite the learning experience. I learned about an interesting waitress who took quite a bit of money, and I learned about a gentleman with large pockets who shook many hands. There was also a woman who looked quite dazed out of her mind peaking at some lights in one corner of the establishment...I can see why His Grace wishes this kept in house." he finished with a pleased smile.

"Yes, I've been thinking of how we are going to continue to keep this under the media's radar," Jennifer mused. "- more notice certainly won't help at all. A great many of the patrons seem to be addicted. I've pinpointed who the source is - the valet at the club we visited tonight. The bartender and waitress are certainly in on distribution."

Jennifer brings up her business phone and accesses the discreet video she took of the valet who had serviced her car.

"We need to determine how we are going to get the drugs out of the club. We can't involve the police. A leak will bring in the press like bloodhounds." Jennifer glances to Mr. Galloway.
"What was your impression of the club? Did you see any weaknesses to exploit?"

"Greed...for our purposes anyway." he said after a moments thought. "We need to get the supplier...this valet fellow alone. Cut off the head and the beast will crumble, and I'm sure our little gangster there will be easily....suggestible. If for instance he were to cause a ruckus farther up his supply line...far far away from any media or the club....well criminals are portrayed as rather ruthless. I convince him that he's not making enough for his hard work and contributions...that he should fight for more...fight being the operative word." he paused letting the idea set in. "Then I just have him forget our discussion, make him believe the whole thing is his idea and watch his pathetic little house of cards go crumbling back into the gutter where his filth deserves to be."

Jennifer was quiet for a moment as she considers what Mr. Galloway is suggesting.

"How would we be able to monitor the valet further up the line?" She proposed.

Her tone is not negative or condescending, but inquisitive.

"If the higher up distributor eliminates the problematic dealer, why would he not place a more obedient source at the club again? Releasing a revenue source would be difficult for greedy, morally challenged drug pushers."

Jennifer fell silent for a moment, her fingers bringing up a notepad on her phone. She often sketched ideas on paper before destroying them.
"We've eliminated the police option. We may cause the valet to over reach. Another option as you've suggested is to utilize our Family Gifts." She paused, deleting what she had typed out. The words had been written into her brain now, churning.

"I was under the impression we were getting rid of a problem, not preventing future ones from occurring. More thorough background checks would be needed to keep out illicit activity, even if we were to get this supplier to quit, by your logic there's no reason someone else can't step in and fill the void in the future...Though..." he paused and stopped for a moment to figure out how he wanted to word the idea forming in his head. "It would look doubly good to both the Prince and the Domain if we were to take initiative...Perhaps we talk with this valet, I use my gifts to gain the information we need to sound as though we are rivals with a stake in the club...not far from the truth. We negotiate a deal in which all parties are happy. His Grace did say that he turned an eye to certain activities but wants this...this...Krokodil out. Perhaps if we were to convince the boss up the chain that it's better to make some profit split both ways than to have his empire come crashing down around him...

He let that idea percolate a moment before adding. "It would also help us monitor any attempts of this fellow to expand into other areas...Many problems are simply opportunities in disguise with the right finesse..."

"We must prevent future ones from occurring. If we get this out of the club and a few weeks later a more organized, more professional organization moves in, how have we helped anyone?" Jennifer questions. "Weeks are a blink of the eye to us."

Jennifer made a small nod.
"Perhaps we could - assist - with future hiring. With the Family Gifts. Although Cozette was present. You get the sensation that she was mocking us?"

Jennifer frowned. "I found it most unsettling."

Jennifer considers his word for a moment, before shrugging.
"They're drug dealers. Maybe we give him a taste of something that can not be duplicated." She wags her eyebrow suggestively.

"Make him dependent on us, then we use him as a mole within the club and a physical deterrent to keep this weed out. We can't watch the club during the day." Jaqen

While the Ventrue understood where the Madame Notary was coming from in terms of needing the club to stay clean after the initial problem was gone and he understood the passing of time, he'd had plenty in his 130 years he felt that it wasn't his duty to watch over someone elses club for the rest of his requiem. That was not what he had agreed to with this particular favor...not that he would express that to anyone but himself of course.

"I do feel she was less than genuine, perhaps." he said in agreement about Cozette, skirting over the mention of the passage of time before considering Jenn's next words. He seemed oddly uncommentative about how the ghouls mockery effected him one way or the other, however.

"Make him a ghoul?" He paused, considering it a moment. "I feel that's putting to much faith in the dealer...he's not been vetted, we know nothing about him...I think in the long run it would be unwise, but that's me personally. If you feel he's worthy of service to you however, then don't let me stop you. I just would need to know more about the man before I shared that sacrament...You are right though, we do need eyes there during the day."

Again August paused thinking, he pulled from his jacket his tobacco pipe, though he didn't light it out of courtesy, simply content to thoughtfully rest it between his lips in a ponderous pose. "I think ultimately we need to see how deep things go first. We don't have enough data, and without that we can't truly know what our options are. Lets think short term for now, we should talk with the Valet first, get him to tell us everything about the operation and then figure out our next step from there I think."

"I wouldn't go as far as to make him a ghoul. He doesn't have the suitable skills that I'd require. That's an assumption on my part - as you mentioned, we know little about him. I simply won't waste the time vetting him to be my ghoul. However, dolls could be most obedient once they are addicted. It'd be a long term solution, however."

Jennifer frowned as she considered it. It had been her idea, but replacing the drug addiction with Vitae addiction would require careful monitoring. She wasn't certain it'd be the best course of action.

"How would you go about questioning him?" Jennifer posed to Mr, Galloway.
"We must ensure that we do not make a mountain out of a molehill."

"Addiction isn't dependence on us, in my opinion...he could go to another source if he weren't monitored properly. Otherwise he'd be a possible masquerade breach and I won't have even the faintest whisper of a broken tradition laid at my feed Madame." he shook his head. "If you feel that route is necessary you may pursue it as is your right of course, I'll not interfere, but I think you might be surprised at what I'm capable of without resorting to the Vinculum." August had segwayed into Jenn's question quite well he thought.

"In fact, rarely do I ever see mountains in discussions. Usually all I ever need to do is ask politely with the Kine and they'll just open right on up. Must be something in my nature." he said with a far to easy going chuckle as his lips spoke around the pipe in his mouth.
