Quincy had taken the Bus. She was decently familiar with the schedule, and public transit was something she'd been using for years. Regardless, by the nature of buses and bus stops, it was nearly and hour and a half before she walked up to the replica of Westminster.

And that's where things were trickier. The building was quite large, and considering the Guardian's number's here, too big not to be shared. She entered anyway, Digging through her memory of what she'd been told about the Sacramento Guardian's offices. Something about a chapel? She turned in that direction, and soon spotted someone at work.

" Halo . I let myself in, Quincy."

Halo liked to give the illusion of nonchalantly being sat at his desk, but earlier he'd been keeping an eye out for the new arrival to make sure he wouldn't actually be surprised when she showed up. He was sat at his computer, with surprisingly good posture for someone who spent most of his working hours in front of computer screens. Dressed fairly casually in jeans and a retro Star Wars t-shirt he stood up and walked over towards Quincy with a smile.

"Hey there, always good to see a new friendly face." Offering her his hand he quickly took in her appearance and demeanor. "There isn't exactly a huge Guardian presence in Sac so I'm glad you're here. We share this building with the Arrows, but they tend not to hang out in this part so it's usually quiet enough to work. You want a coffee or something?"

Quincy stood straight and relaxed, taking in Halo and the room he was working in with something more than mere attentiveness. It was more like she was expecting Halo, the room, every piece of paper, every note, every scrap and mark within her view to be absorbed into her and irrevocably, remain there until she should call it up to life in her mind.

And despite that, she was more than capable of moving. Her mouth formed a faint smile; her eyes didn’t wander from his as she shook his hand just once, firmly, but not to test his own strength. ”More than reasonable. The four names I was told couldn’t fill this place up enough to be worth it.” Her voice was smoky, but strident. It had been softer on the phone, but it was clear that here was business: the office, as Halo described it earlier, and as a mage conducting Business, she didn't restrain herself, though every word and phrase was clipped.

His offer of coffee made her pause, as if such offers were a novel idea she didn’t experience often. ”No.” She said it as if it should be obvious, but then she seemed to catch herself. ”If I’m already fully awake, it doesn’t serve a purpose and isn’t as pleasant an experience.” Somehow, the statement was an apology.

Halo just shrugged. "Fair enough." This one's going to be 'interesting' I see.

"So Quincy, where did you come from and what's your specialty?" He smiled lightly, recalling Teotl 's comment about specialisation. Guardians came from such a diverse array of backgrounds that it was almost impossible to know what any given member would be good at. Halo's skill set lent itself quite well to breaking and entering, both physically and electronically, but he had a few other tricks up his sleeve too. Quincy seemed possessed of a supreme self-confidence. He wondered if it was just an act, or a facet of her personality. Time would tell.

She arcs and eyebrow at his question of where she was from - hadn't she mentioned that over the phone? Then again, he could be asking where she grew up, and at 31 what she said over the phone was less likely to apply. Specifics then, and a verbal resume "Grew up in north-western Pennsylvania, though the last five years I've been living and working in Philly. My day job is Mortician, and I'd been an assistant M.E. before my move to Philly. My sharpest skills are Observation, memorization, reading people, the sciences, collecting occult knowledge, and looking into problems. There's a few other things I'm sufficient though not highly skilled in."

She ran the information through her mind again, confirming that would cover her Mundane Resume. "I'm a Time-focused Acanthus. There's a fair chance Mr. Mort - my mentor in the Guardians -" 'Not to mention for 16 years before I awakened,' she thought. "Will tutor me in his legacy once I figure out the right conditions to convince him." The last was said with a hint of aggravation but far more affection.

The arched eyebrow didn't phase the Obrimos. He liked to ask questions he already knew the answer to, it was a good way to catch people out if they were just making shit up to try to fool you. Fortunately he didn't get that vibe from Quincy, which admittedly might mean she was just really good at it.

"Mortician you say? Then I'm really pleased to meet you Qunicy, we've got a couple of bodies in storage that I'd like you to take a look at sometime." Once he could fully focus on the Rosh case again. They were sorely missing someone with such skills, short of inviting Gallows in to help out. He wasn't opposed to that, Gallows was a friend, but keeping it between the Guardians felt like a better call.

"Sounds like you'll fit right in anyway!" He smiled pleasantly and wondered who Mr Mort was and what his legacy might be. "As for me I'm Obrimos, Prime focused. Physical and electronic investigations are my specialty, and I'm working on getting back into combat shape." After being savaged by a door. No, no, he was going to keep that to himself.

Quincy suppressed a flash of irritation. If it was just another disposal before she'd even been hired from any of her interviews... But it might be an investigation. That soothed her nerves a little bit. "Are you asking me to examine them, or dispose of them? Because the best I can do for disposal until I secure employment is suggest a few places that aren't horrifically expensive as long as you don't care for a service." Her voice had dipped softer, more like it had been on the phone, though the evident irritation layering in her voice at being asked so soon to deal with disposal and the pleading to be thrown an investigation danced through her words.

The emotion was its own problem, and the instinctive unwinding another. She needed to work on both. She took a deep breath, had a vague wish for - she wasn't sure what - then quashed the urge and put herself back into mage-business mode.

"Please tell me you mean my skills and with the Guardians, because the thought of my personality fitting in with the larger consillium almost makes me feel pity for the mages not used to being pricked." one corner of her mouth twitched up, the slightest acknowledgement that she new full well that most considered her rude and prickly, but that she didn't plan on changing anytime soon.

Halo grinned at Quincy as she attempted to control her irritation. He raised his hands in a placating gesture.

"The former I assure you." The smile disappeared as he continued. "A few of the city's willworkers were murdered in a ritualistic fashion. Three bodies so far. We can talk about it at length when there's more time. I'm working on what appears to be a kidnapping at the moment, which has priority purely due to the victim still being alive."

He watched her inner struggle with interest and waited for her to finish before answering the second question. "Again, the former. I meant you'll help fill in the gaps in the Guardian's skill set. We didn't have an Acanthus, and since Samael passed we've been lacking anyone who was good at dealing with dead people." Halo shrugged, personally he didn't care if she was 'prickly' as long as she could do her job.

    You may continue again
"My father says that almost the whole world is asleep.
Everybody you know, everybody you see, everybody you talk to.
He says that only a few people are awake,
and they live in a state of constant, total amazement."

Quincy gives a relaxed nod, her shoulders falling back to their natural line. Her fore and middle fingers rubbed together for a moment, then tapped her lips, before falling back to her side as she spoke. "Appreciated, on both counts." there was a slight hesitation, during which she looked around at the chapel as a whole.

"I... had been expecting to meet more than yourself." 'Unreasonable, I hadn't expressed that desire during the call.'

She fidgeted a moment, unsure of whether he'd offer to call people he thought she should know, or whether she should should ask to see the bodies. Introductions and first conversations were far from Quincy's strong suit, not helped by her distaste for asking questions when she'd love to dig up the answers.
