The Wednesday morning was relatively quiet for the Mel’s Kitchen. The food was reasonably priced and was a top rated place despite of it. It wasn’t often busy during this day, but by the next, it would begin it’s weekend buzz of people. A few televisions were on which aired the morning news.
The smell of bacon, eggs and syrup filled the air. The sounds of utensils, clattering dishes and brewing coffee tinkled in the ears of the few sitting around. This particular diner was open 24 hours and often had vagabonds who tried to sleep in the booths. It was bound to happen, particularly in the winter months. At least the owners were kind to them. Which would explain the poor man who smelled pickled from the constant vein of brandy into his system daily.
The place had some of the best coffee in town as far as restaurants go. They have four types, decaf, normal, strong and 'caffeine high'. Which would explain some the mini line of people standing at the counter leaving with just a to-go cup.
