Good.” She liked the feeling of knowing that things were getting done. “If you wish to invite me into your home, that is well enough, I expect you will have made your decisions and will contact me with a time and a place.

She gave the Doctor a faint smile, as her words seemed to carry some form of weight to them.
"My father says that almost the whole world is asleep.
Everybody you know, everybody you see, everybody you talk to.
He says that only a few people are awake,
and they live in a state of constant, total amazement."

Damn, she wasn't boss for no reason. At least she smiled, though, and that mattered. "We'll iron out the few details quickly. Expect an invitation shortly, then." and he nodded to her, a silent acknowledgement of her sentence and its meaning.

There was more, though. The mere thought made Miach excited, and he had to bite his lips before starting, in order to keep calm. "We have something else we can offer, too. I don't know if you're aware, but last year we tried to organize a first-aid class for any of us who'd be interested. We'd like to reiterate the attempt..."

I will then.” The Hierarch said as she moved from one room of the museum to another.

I have heard of it, I believe there were social repercussions of that particular lesson, although allowing you to do so is not within my jurisdiction. Wouldn’t you have to speak with Dr. Primoria to do something concerning that?” She raised her eyebrow at the medical doctor.
"My father says that almost the whole world is asleep.
Everybody you know, everybody you see, everybody you talk to.
He says that only a few people are awake,
and they live in a state of constant, total amazement."

The various statues and paintings they could see in the museum were a reminder that the past was still here, and still had its say on today. It was of course all the more true for them Mages who could dispel the illusion of Time. Up to which point, Miach idly pondered, a pang in his heart about Menwel's death. There were still much uncertainties about the real extent of his abilities, though, and he dared not hope too long, quickly coming back to the conversation with the Hierarch. And all the difficulties that came with it.

"I intend to call Dr Primoria very soon indeed, though about another matter probably. Currently, we're thinking of holding the course at our base, so it shouldn't be an issue." There would of course be the inevitable question about the Price of Knowledge, but that was best left for another time. The Enchanter purposefully glossed over the social repercussions. He had had his talk with Vaeltia, they didn't see eye to eye, but they were at least on speaking terms again, so there was no point dwelling on it. If there had been other consequences, he didn't know of them. "What do you think of this idea ? Would you like to come, perhaps ?"

Avalon stopped before looking Miach straight in the eye. “That completely depends on whether or not I am in town, you have correctly defined what the class will entail, and if Dr. Primoria’s permission has been granted.

She tilted her head slightly. “Because currently you do not know if she will even say yes, therefore you are only sowing discord and not respecting your betters.” She crossed her arms. “Like I said only a moment ago, that is not with in my jurisdiction. If you are intending to hold it beyond the sanction of your order, that is your own choice, and I will not make it for you.
"My father says that almost the whole world is asleep.
Everybody you know, everybody you see, everybody you talk to.

The words chosen by the Hierarch gave pause to Miach, and he had to wonder what she meant. There had been a misunderstanding, it was the only thing that could explain it. "This first-aid couse would be only that, very basic, mundane reflexes anyone could have, and that can save lives. Everyone deserves to live. I can't see how it could sow discord." His voice would have grown heated, had it been less pleading. He wasn't speaking about spreading Life knowledge for free, but mere sleeper know-how. Of course saving lives was so right nothing could be wrong about it, right ? right ?

Discord in the sense of not getting permission first. That’s where you want to look.” she said with an eye shrug. “Besides if you’re just intending to give a first-aid course, don’t dress it up fancy like you did last time.

The Hierarch said with a breath. “If you are honestly just going to do that one topic instead of the entire course, then you might as well invite anyone who wants to learn in.

Why restrict it to just the Awakened, besides having a few sleepers around might prevent what happened last time.
"My father says that almost the whole world is asleep.
Everybody you know, everybody you see, everybody you talk to.
He says that only a few people are awake,
and they live in a state of constant, total amazement."

Wracking his brain, Miach tried to remember if he had done anything fancy last time. Sure, he had brought various stuff he thought might help him actually transmit this knowledge, but he wouldn't call it fancy. Had he gotten so used to it that it seemed too natural to him ? Anyway, he had asked for the Hierarch's advice, and he was now bound to listen to it. Doing the contrary would be just plain rude. And being rude to the Hierarch was unwise, too. "OK, I'll talk with her about it too." He may not have looked actually convinced, but from his tone it was clear he would.

It was then that he realized. She had been talking of his very first course, and not the Medstar's Academy ! "I see ! Well, I intend indeed to do that one topic only, yes. But I see it as another chance to get to know each other too, so I'd rather keep it community-only, if you see what I mean. I think we could do with a tighter community. I'm sure I don't know half of us, alas. And not for lack of trying." Would he invite Esmeralda over though ? He quickly dismissed the thought. Too dangerous for her.

Avalon decided that Miach had no idea what she was talking about, and decided she didn’t have the patience to actually handle it right now.

So tell me Dr. Blyes ( Bigpaw ), considering Miss. Gale ( RockBane ) spent most of her time dicking around with your unconscious body at Written in Water, and you want to teach a first aid course...what makes you think I want to learn from you?

It was harsh, but some lessons had to be learned.

"If you want to just have a social get together, don't dress it up like something it's not -- people could get hurt."
"My father says that almost the whole world is asleep.
Everybody you know, everybody you see, everybody you talk to.
He says that only a few people are awake,
and they live in a state of constant, total amazement."

Miach stopped short in his track as the Hierarch started calling him by his real name. He had feared as much when he had read the newspaper, but it still sent shivers down his spine. The Acanthus felt very vulnerable. What's more, she was rubbing salt in a barely closed wound. In a single sentence, she had put him off in two harsh ways.

He gulped twice, not looking at her while he tried to regain his composure. Well, look at the bright side, if she had meant to harm you, she'd have kept that knowledge from you... he tried to convince himself, but it hardly worked. The doctor tried to reply, and stammered twice before regaining enough footing to make a full sentence. "I.. you... She made a judgement call. I'm alive, and sound. That's not so bas, is it ?" but who was he trying to convince, really ?

Her last sentence was another slap to the face, and if Miach had been less of a coward, he would have retorted with stern words. But as it was, he was facing a very powerful Mage who knew his real name... He would have to prove her wrong, if only for his professional's pride, but for now, all he could do was to give the other cheek meekly. "I see... I'm sorry." did he blurt, and quickly looked away, his face red from a mixture of shame, pain, fear and anger.
