Circe's blade bends but doesn't break, the angle must have been wrong or maybe it was the heat of the ground around them. The others start digging, it's hot, it's uncomfortable but slowly it starts working, Sonnie's rock and Kray's might they slowly but surely start to uncover the roots.
sorry for the long wait and that this is short, sick + site shenanigans = blah
can i get another round of rolls for digging, and if you want to do an extended, or even a teamwork action you can do that

Wyrd Stone Powers Activate! Harden the Mask
The right tool for the right job certainly applies, as the Larcenist is learning. Her tool is NOT the right one. Eh, maybe the bend will help improve it? Or, just a thought, or she could try a more effective tool on hand.
Circe drops the bent brush axe as she pulls off the gloves, revealing curved claws that she now uses to start digging harder.
Or at least better than she has been digging at any rate.

When his had dad had described Autumn as the working mans season digging by hand through the hot soil of the hedge to unearth the roots of a spore spreading semi sentient seeming tree that was a fatal risk to everything that breathed in the local area might not have been what the old man had in mind. But it was a sentiment that the Ogre had kept the long years later and to him it very much did apply to this situation. Good thing to because the work was gruelling.
"Ah. Why did I forget my shovel?" Panting through the exertion. But he still has a job to do and glamour to spend to make it happen. So the digging continues fuelled by the glamour adding ogreish might to his muscles. He is not to proud to accept the help offered by Sonnie, if it gets the job done then that's the goal, letting her loosen the earth with the rock before using his big hands like scoops to deepen the hole.

It still takes time, but their teamwork pays off, sooner rather than latter all of the many Rust root's are uncovered. As twisted and as rope-like as the rest of the roottree. They're still twitching, still reaching for the ground.
If the Lost fail to destroy all of them, they'll just find their way back underground and continue to grow, spreading the Rust once again.
Y'all can try and hack and slash, or more fire, or hack and slash then fire to try and destroy the rest of the roots

New IdentityDamn, she thought, her tail twitching (but not twitching in the gross way the roots were).
Sonnie was at a loss as to what to do now. She was out of molotovs, and she had no machete or anything to hack this stuff. Well, she did have her Elemental Contract. She could summon up her 'deadly tornado armor', but using that would require touching the roots, and she had no suit to protect her from such contact. Roots bad, no touchy-touchy.
She looked to Circe as she pulled out a bottle of water and took a refreshing drink, "We got more gasoline?" Ah, the water was good after all that physical labor. "Or a good pair of gloves I could borrow?" The Beast looked down at the creepy remnants of the Rust Tree. "Unless... you think the roots are safe to touch?"
Sonnie knelt down and peered closer at the roots, trying to determine if the Rust was upon them.

Wyrd Stone Powers Activate! Harden the MaskCirce wasn't enjoying the feeling of tearing up dirt with claws. The roots needed destruction, but this wasn't the best method. In answer to Kray, Circe is fully honest with him: "I didn't 'cause I thought it'd take longer to burn than this and we'd have to come back. Imagine my surprise, literally since I have the mask on."
"Here," Circe hands her gloves over to Sonja. Then retrieves her brush axe for the roots, "Probably not, hence slashy. I, uh, only got a lighter and a couple of road flares," she answers Sonja. It wouldn't be enough to burn everything, maybe a tight knot or two if she emptied the lighter onto it. "Could door dash charcoal, they don't deliver gasoline. Might have questions though, so big tip to shut up they never heard nothing about the sorority prank."
Circe now has something to HACK at instead of dig, so she uses the brush axe as it was meant to be used. Breaking up roots or pulling brush was why the blade was hooked, so it should work well for this now. The claws? That would be for digging up more roots after chopping and pulling them out.

What he does know is that he has sharp objects and squirming tendrils of plant matter don't usually like those. "Uh. Here you go." Sonnie gets offered the bowie knife good as anything for close quarters cutting. "Hm. No need to touch when you can just cut them." But the gloves were also a good idea.
As for the ogre, his machete comes out for round two, as he feeds the last of his glamour into his giant form for what he hopes will be the last step of this endeavour. Raising the machete he begins to chop and keeps going until his massive arms give out more or less.
Sleep, sleep would the first thing. "Uh. Uh." the panting gives away it had been along time since he had so completely exerted and exhausted himself. "Uh. If that doesn't do it then I don't know we siphon my cars petrol tank?" He could pass out in the back easy enough and sort that in the morning.

There's something akin to the Rust on the roots, but it could also be said that the entirely of the roottree was just the Rust writ large, but to Sonnie's eye, and nose the roots were different than the spores that had been clinging to the hedge. It might not be safe, but it wasn't the same kind of dangerous.
Chop and hack, with the bent blade it wasn't helping things, but it wasn't hurting them.
Kray just gets to work. Hack and chop, and chop and chop and chop, even when the others take a break the Ogre is still working. And the tiny bits of root are growing to show for all his effort.
Soon they'd have to light the roots up to finalize the destroy the roots part, or maybe....maybe they could take them Ironside, wasn't the Rust inert Ironside, and didn't Circe know someone with access to an incinerator?
