Arturo rose from his seat as Ellis closed out with his question, his body creaking much like the pew. Slowly, methodically the starved Ventrue made his way to the altar and the podium in front of it. While not decedent like the Catholic pageantry he was used too but it got the purpose across, did what it needed too - and the exact iconography was a little less important when you realized Vampires were real so there was a lot more than you had ever understood.
Once at the podium Arturo leaned on it, his forearms down as he offered Ellis a wide grin.
”You are on the right track - there is no grand design, that is a sick joke told by scared people who need to be coddled. We are in the sandbox made at the whim of the Creator and given the free will to do as we wish. This includes the capacity to do as much Good or Evil as we can. Humanity does not have the same mechanical purpose we see in other species - we are much more of a hot mess about this whole existing thing.”
“The point is, we are tested to see if we are capable of being our best selves against all odds. And quite often we fail. Our condition? It is indiscriminate, chosen by humans made monsters and not bestowed by God himself in any way shape or form. Now, I can’t tell you about the origins of the Beast or what its true purpose is. But I can ask - what is the difference between the Kiss and a mist that steals your firstborn? We are the fleeting remnants of humanity shown how fragile we really were before our embrace.”
“We look at what we lost, and realize the divine joke we have become despite all the perceived strength and power that comes with the Curse. It is the ultimate allure isn’t it? What can’t we do? Simple, we can’t really taste, or connect, or even see the sun. We are broken humans at best, and if we give into our baser desires we will either destroy the stock that sustains us, or we will end up at their mercy.”
He repositioned, lifting himself up and leaning on his palms now as he gave his sermon.
[color=#ff4500]”Now, as victims of circumstance and still trying to hold our sense of free will and humanity against the ever consuming serpent that dwells in all of us, what is fucking up in a spiritual sense?”[/i]
The Lord took a moment and looked up and took an unnecessary breath before looking back down.
”If you ask me, another man turned monster like yourself - I would suggest this. Giving in. Giving in, in the sense that you lose your freewill and you let the beast take over and you forsake the greatest gift we were ever given in the form of our agency. We lose our freewill, we lose the lesson, and we lose the ability to serve a cycle.”
He shifted once more, returning to leaning on his forearms and looking down at Ellis in the pew.
”A little preachy, but I hope it made sense. And this is all philosophy really, rather than a practical assessment of the Domain we find ourselves residing in.”
Arturo's quiet yet passionate sermon holds his own belief and interpretation of the nature of the Beast and an answer to Ellis' question. There is an amusement in getting to explain in a way that almost seems like venting. He aims at answering the idea of a 'purpose' of Vamprism, and how it should be handled in loose terms. But has clearly baited that the Domain may be at odds with this view without say as much - seeing if Ellis will ask the questions.
