History of Sacramento's Awakened Reply with quote
To call it history would be a misnomer.

Awakened from all around California remember Sacramento. They remember that it was a thriving community of mages that had lived fairly quietly for many years. Then some twenty years ago, there had been excited talk about a new Consillium being elected. Then silence....

It wasn't until last year that certain members of outlying cities near Sacramento began to realize a startling truth: they hadn't heard from their brothers and sisters in Sacramento in a long time. What was worse, these mages couldn't remember their brothers and sisters.

The Guardians were the first to confront this terrible phenomena. After two weeks of constant scrying and deep probes, all of the Guardians operatives came to the same conclusion, there were no mages left in Sacramento. What was worse, it was as if there never had been any mages in Sacramento. The masters of each of the Orders were as terrified as they were mystified.

Consuls from Stockton, San Francisco, and as far away as Reno convened at the behest of the Silver Ladder. At a grand meeting of the minds, it was decided that each order should send operatives into Sacramento to investigate the situation. The Awakened sent on this perilous mission would have little help from the other cities and were encouraged to take their old responsibilities in the Capital. Although it was an unspoken fear, many on the councils worried that in the wake of such a mass disappearance, Sleepers might have awakened to a world without the aid of a mentor. The possible threat to the world at the hands of such untrained fools was almost too much for some to bear thinking of.

The members of the Adamantine Arrow sent what warriors they had to access the damage and, if needed, do battle with whatever could have made dozens of mages disappear off the face of history. The Mysterium sent its teams to uncover the secrets that had rendered Sacramento devoid of mages. The Free Council had lost many great minds to this tragedy and were prepared to pay the perpetrators back in kind. The Silver Ladder sent its Awakened to heal the scars left by the passing of so many and, of course, to take hold of the reigns to guide the other mages that were coming. Finally, the Guardians sent out their operatives, each bearing a piece to a puzzle that would be solved with blood...

Many wept for their lost brethren alongside those who prepared to trek into unknown peril. All who placed their steps on the path to Sacramento knew that they may well never make the journey back. Yet some, in their hearts knew truths that would shake the foundations of Sacramento once again...

Think of the Sacramento Mage (Pentacle) community as a military operation, organized by the Regional Consilium of Northern California. Considering how alarming the disappearance of an entire city's worth of the Awakened is, it is no surprise the Consilium is deadly serious about its operations in Sacramento.

A large number of independent actors have moved into the city, but by and large the Orders are in charge.

Their primary influence is being administrated by 4 official Cabals, with a community of Free Council Mages acting as the City's fifth Cabal.

Although the leaders of these cabals have been appointed, most of the rank members are volunteers from the surrounding US cities and states. Some only wish to help, some are only looking out for their careers.

The city is NOT considered safe, and the Pentacle continues to work to secure the sanctums and hallows left behind. Hallows are considered an extremely precious resource, and usage of them is STRICTLY controlled by the Orders.

Mages not acting on Consilium business should be extremely wary, as their interests come secondary to the security of the City.
