| Ruby's face is full of sparkles and her smile beams like a searchlight. Eyes full of mischievous glitter she turns to her guard. "Day full of disappointment, but I think we got a spell of good luck come our way! You mind getting the car started?" The van sputters to life, and kicks up a trail of dust. As it needles its way along a tiny road headed North, Ruby turns the radio on to her favorite honkeytonk channel hoping the others wont mind. She can't help but sing a verse or two before embarrassed, she lets the refrain pass as the others don't join in. Lord, am I making a fool of myself. But I saw one of them folk crack a smile, can't be the only one enjoyin' a twangin' banjo. Spinning tires ease to a halt, and Ruby hops out once more. Rising warmth seeps into her bones and she shudders in reaction to the lines crossed deep beneath her feet. Certain that this is where she will find the ancient caverns that have eluded her, she gathers up every ounce of will she can muster and raps her fist against the dusty earth infusing it with her will. 03-14 04:47:37 Ruby rolls 6 dice to Forces+Gnosis+HS-4 (used WP) 1 success 1,7,8,7,3, 4 The deep echoes return to her ear and she raises her head... |

| The range on the knock spell Ruby has in mind isn't far enough to cover the expansive area, so she chooses key locations to investigate in a pattern over a few square miles. Ruby preps by spending a point of mana to cast Listen for that Hollow Sound (Forces 1 Matter 1) 03-13 15:38:44 Ruby rolls 3 dice to Gnosis+Forces+HS-4 2 successes 1,6,10,9 Duration factor, 12 hours Arriving at the first hilltop off of a gravel road, Ruby lowers her ear to the ground with the Lieutenant and Ensign looking on. She whispers a few meager syllables of High Speech and raps her knuckles against the hard ground. Knock, knock. You empty? 03-13 15:59:35 Ruby rolls 1 die to Forces+Gnosis+HS-6 Failure 6 But she doesn't really have the sheer proficiency to effectively work her magic over so huge a distance. She tries again less ambitiously. Knock, knock. You empty? 03-13 16:00:09 Ruby rolls 2 dice to Forces+Gnosis+HS-4-1 Failure 4,7 Ruby looks out over the landscape realizing that this is like finding a needle in a haystack. Before she moved to Sacramento she could get by perfectly well with her knowledge of the Arcana, but this work required someone with a lot more umph to their sorcery. Ruby decides to narrow her search. She risks a little contagion to do it, but she doesn't want to let that mana go to waste. Supernal Vision 03-13 16:14:08 Ruby rolls 5 dice to Prime+Gnosis 3 successes 5,8,3,5,10, 9 She smiles as tiny colors swirl in the sky and light on the barren landscape become evident. She hopes that a convergence of ley lines just might be the best sign to search for. Maybe she should check in with Captain first though? |

| Ruby hops into the van with her escort. She has a couple of spells in mind. She's heard tell of a Mysterium rote to find hidden compartments within solid objects. (Matter 1 Mapping the Tomb pg MtA 195) but is unfamiliar with the specifics and unsure whether the range will be sufficient. She wonders whether the Sonar idea has much merit... by infusing sound waves with rudimentary matter magic (Sound Mastery MtA pg170 + Find the Hidden Hoard MtA pg195), they can penetrate the earth and possibly reveal the presence of large hollows under the surface. She would need to be able to sense the resulting waves with a receiver spell. (164 MtA) |

| Ruby feels a twinge of envy that she won't be here to witness a beautiful forgotten language deciphered. They are here for a purpose though, and there are a number of reasons that people are counting on them to make progress. "Perfect! Now, I couldn't make sense of anything that was written here, I was mostly just cataloging the art... so while you're translating, you wouldn't mind having one of your friends do some transcriptions?" Ruby hops over to the corner of the cave and pulls a pair of thick books out of a covered box. "I've got the ledgers over here if you decide to!" "And then, while I head out would you mind if I took one of your friends along to keep me company? I don't want to be drivin' round by my lonesome." |

| Starting to cheer up a bit, Ruby invites Captain to take a look at the map. Carson City Map "We're right about here now," Ruby indicates, (I'll have to ask Kai where exactly) "and we're hoping that there's another network of caverns somewhere nearabouts probably full to th' brim with Abyssal ookiness." Ruby looks up and smiles. "So! There are two ways I can figure to find our hidden cave: find somethin' here that gives us a hint as to where we should look, or we can survey the surrounding area for the biggest hole there is underground. Heck, we can do both same time if you'd like, or I'd love to hear any ideas you got to make this easier." |

   Uncomfortable silence fills the car most of the drive over. Ruby stares glumly out the window, every so often mentioning something she thought would be relevant about the dig. She wonders for a moment if the others in the car are even listening. "OK, you can just pull up here. This right here's the primary site." Ruby indicates, and the van grinds to a halt. She grips the handle and gets ready to exit. |

| But isn't he giving one of the wands to Fiddler? It counts against the spell control of the guy who cast it, but the tolerance of the guy carrying it. Also, there's something super weird about the description of Spirit Road. Although it lists the duration as transitory, it states that the door remains open for one hour in the text. I assume it's talking about the way back |

| Tools now reduce your paradox dice by one instead of adding spell dice. This might be a case of confusing old Mage with new Mage. And then for clarification, paradox rolls are never reduced below a chance die for Vulgar spells. Covert spells can be reduced to zero. Sounds right otherwise |

Then he can't see them past the audience and bleachers. "Ah, crap," he mutters. Jamming his hands in his pockets to hide their mannish size and hair, little Alex stands and makes a beeline towards where they all gone off to. He keeps his head down. His mein is subtle, Cherubic even. He scans the park hoping to find where they'd all gone off to, hoping further that it was safe to assume they were Freehold Lost. Seeing the group, he waddles over and nods in greeting. |
