Uncomfortable silence fills the car most of the drive over. Ruby stares glumly out the window, every so often mentioning something she thought would be relevant about the dig. She wonders for a moment if the others in the car are even listening.
"OK, you can just pull up here. This right here's the primary site." Ruby indicates, and the van grinds to a halt. She grips the handle and gets ready to exit.

Starting to cheer up a bit, Ruby invites Captain to take a look at the map.
Carson City Map
"We're right about here now," Ruby indicates, (I'll have to ask Kai where exactly) "and we're hoping that there's another network of caverns somewhere nearabouts probably full to th' brim with Abyssal ookiness." Ruby looks up and smiles.
"So! There are two ways I can figure to find our hidden cave: find somethin' here that gives us a hint as to where we should look, or we can survey the surrounding area for the biggest hole there is underground. Heck, we can do both same time if you'd like, or I'd love to hear any ideas you got to make this easier."

Ruby feels a twinge of envy that she won't be here to witness a beautiful forgotten language deciphered. They are here for a purpose though, and there are a number of reasons that people are counting on them to make progress.
"Perfect! Now, I couldn't make sense of anything that was written here, I was mostly just cataloging the art... so while you're translating, you wouldn't mind having one of your friends do some transcriptions?" Ruby hops over to the corner of the cave and pulls a pair of thick books out of a covered box. "I've got the ledgers over here if you decide to!"
"And then, while I head out would you mind if I took one of your friends along to keep me company? I don't want to be drivin' round by my lonesome."

Ruby hops into the van with her escort. She has a couple of spells in mind. She's heard tell of a Mysterium rote to find hidden compartments within solid objects. (Matter 1 Mapping the Tomb pg MtA 195) but is unfamiliar with the specifics and unsure whether the range will be sufficient.
She wonders whether the Sonar idea has much merit... by infusing sound waves with rudimentary matter magic (Sound Mastery MtA pg170 + Find the Hidden Hoard MtA pg195), they can penetrate the earth and possibly reveal the presence of large hollows under the surface. She would need to be able to sense the resulting waves with a receiver spell. (164 MtA)

After perusing the artwork, and making sense of some of the written symbols, Captain finds some references to a refined tomb, but it isn't part of this cave system. In fact, references are made about a much smaller cave somewhere to the north of these caves.

The range on the knock spell Ruby has in mind isn't far enough to cover the expansive area, so she chooses key locations to investigate in a pattern over a few square miles.

Ruby looks out over the landscape realizing that this is like finding a needle in a haystack. Before she moved to Sacramento she could get by perfectly well with her knowledge of the Arcana, but this work required someone with a lot more umph to their sorcery.
Ruby decides to narrow her search. She risks a little contagion to do it, but she doesn't want to let that mana go to waste.

Sweeping her gaze Northwards over the Vista, Ruby searches for the telltale signs of ley lines crossing.
Should major lines of power cross, it would be an excellent guess for a place to start searching.

About two miles north of the original caverns, Ruby sees what looks to be a very small, rock covered hill. And under that hill, Ley Lines do seem like they would converge, but instead seem to be temporarily erased within the confines of the hill.

Ruby's face is full of sparkles and her smile beams like a searchlight. Eyes full of mischievous glitter she turns to her guard. "Day full of disappointment, but I think we got a spell of good luck come our way! You mind getting the car started?"
The van sputters to life, and kicks up a trail of dust. As it needles its way along a tiny road headed North, Ruby turns the radio on to her favorite honkeytonk channel hoping the others wont mind. She can't help but sing a verse or two before embarrassed, she lets the refrain pass as the others don't join in.
Lord, am I making a fool of myself. But I saw one of them folk crack a smile, can't be the only one enjoyin' a twangin' banjo.
Spinning tires ease to a halt, and Ruby hops out once more. Rising warmth seeps into her bones and she shudders in reaction to the lines crossed deep beneath her feet.
Certain that this is where she will find the ancient caverns that have eluded her, she gathers up every ounce of will she can muster and raps her fist against the dusty earth infusing it with her will.
