Erika waited, and made absolutely certain it was after sunset before grabbing a cab over to Amber Hill. She paid the cabbie and stepped out, walking straight up to the front door. She'd made certain to look professional, at least for this first meeting; a nice dark business suit, with matching skirt and an up do.
She stepped inside, and made her way to Dr. Diana Beufont's office, stopping to make sure there weren't any hidden mirrors, which she doubted in such a place, and knocked on the door.

Diana was tapping at the note-pad set in front of her as she waited for something to happen. She had canceled all of her patients' sessions for the night in hope of the meeting. But she knew the academic types, it could very well have fallen through due to a mid-life crisis. So she was involving herself in the correlations between some of her patients' stories when there was a knock. She looked up and let her glasses fall around her neck as she stood to go and open the door.
As she swung it open she put on a curt smile, "Dr. Brady? Come on in, please have a seat and make yourself comfortable. Do you need anything to drink? I can send some staff to get it."

Erika smiled as the Doctor opened the door, her eyes glistening with bright green hues as she bowed her head politely.
"I'm quite alright, thank you. I am, however, very interested in the work you're doing here. I haven't actually been in a position to do much real life studies myself in some time."
As she walks into the office, it's fairly obvious that she doesn't look much older than thirty, but the countless credentials to her name would clearly put her as much older.

Diana does indeed take note of the woman's overall appearence, putting her glasses up to her face for a moment before letting them drop.
Hm, plastic surgery is doing better and better I see...
She nodded and turned to walk back to her desk, "Yes--It's rather interesting. My focus has been on tracking the possible dangers of the occult and folklore on people with various mental illnesses or stresses. As such, in this case it would be interesting to see the link between the stories of some of my patients and how close or far from general vampire folklore they are. Then I can track when and where they could have reasonably picked up such stories and pin it to perhaps a point of stress in their lives where the impression took place," she chuckles as she shakes her head, "I'm sorry, I get excited about such things you see."
She sat down and leaned forward, "Now tell me, please. What would you say is a "common" vampire story? And if you have any questions for me, please don't hesitate to ask."

Erika grins as she finds a comfortable seat in the room, "Nothing wrong with being excited about your work." She leans back, reaching up to tighten the hold on her pulled up hair, and begins recounting.
"The most common vampire myth and story is that of the suave, debonair creature of the night, one who can woo any and everyone, who drinks their blood and controls them with mind powers. These vampire stories are heard all throughout the modern world, and are about as far from ancient myth as could really be possible."

She nods her head slightly, pulling out her own pair of glasses, and slides them onto the bridge of her nose. "Typically it is a male, but occasionally it will be women who are recognized, typically in the more sexual tales." She again nods in respone to the patient's analysis, and answers quietly.
"There are tales of the power of the blood drained by a vampire, and how it may bestow some of its prescience upon a recipient. These stories are much less common, however, and it's unusual for it to be taken seriously. Most scholars agree that to gain the power of a vampire, you must become a vampire."

"So, drunk blood is the mode of transfered power? Hmm--Interesting, I will have to bring this up next time I talk with the patient, perhaps this is what he meant. I should run for any blood-borne disease. Perhaps excess iron," she said scribbling down those out-loud notes. "In these stories is it common for a vampire to take on human...pets in this way? What is the vampire's reasoning for doing that? Do they pick out any particular person, with a particular desirable trait?" She adjusts her glasses as she looks at the other woman, "I'm curious because perhaps this could be a sense of self-empowerment. If these stories say that these vampires 'Only choose the most beautiful, or strongest, or some such' that this could be a form of ego for these patients."

Erika shakes her head slightly, "It's not a common thread, by any means. Blood-drinking is, however; usually in some attempt to make themselves a vampire. In regards to victims, however, most stories agree that there isn't really any thought given to who they are, so much as that they have fresh blood."
She smiles, and licks her lips just slightly, her hands resting across her chest as she slides one leg up, crossing it at the knee.

Diana nods as she listens, "Hmm..hmm...interesting. Well I think this is a good start. I have so many more questions, obviously, but I suppose one very important one is a more personal one. Now, Dr. Brady, do you have any knowledge of this sub-culture in the city? Have you heard of any stories amongst your peers or contacts in the occult world about increased incidents of this kind of activity, at a particular time of the year or the like, or maybe a particular hot-spot? I would be interested to know if there was perhaps some sort of...I don't know--Cult activity at work that was preying on the weak wills of the mental ill," thoughts of her sister flashed through her and she gripped her pen tighter for just a moment before washing those away and waiting for the answer."

Erika shakes her head just slightly, "No, not really. I've only just moved here, so all of my contacts are still in New York. I really moved away to get some quiet and privacy; dealing with cults and such is a long part of my past." She stretched out momentarily, and then stood up, taking a look around the office. "However, I wouldn't mind a little extra work, if you've anything in mind."

Diana raises an eyebrow at the idea, tapping her lower lip with her pen as she thinks, "Hmm...Well yes--I don't see why this can't be a more detailed collaboration. Most of my patients spoke of being accosted by their attacker, or episodes, during time after a bar. Now I'm not ruling out the idea that these are simply figments, however if there is a cult of some kind I would think the best way to find out is to go to the source. Now, as I'm sure you can imagine, I myself do not frequent night clubs. However, I could be persuded to try and question people or bartenders about any particularly shady, pale, predatory figures and perhaps who they contact frequently..."
She trails off and starts rifling through notes, "Somewhere there is a...I know I wrote it down," then picking up one sticky note that had long lost its stick, "Ah--Yes, The Avalon was one mentioned more than others. Though I imagine in any urban setting there are dark, pale, predatory people running around." She then shakes her head slightly and looks up to Erika, "Anyway, the point is if you were so inclined to go to such places and gather data and see if it leads anywhere substantial, I wouldn't reject it outright." She let out a very small smile rather quickly before it faded again, that was a compliment after all.

Erika nods her head, and reaches up to adjust her hair one last time. "I'm not really much for clubs and bars myself; a quiet evening at home is all I really do these days." She slides back into the seat, and hmms quietly, her eyes settling on the doctor. The veins in her neck seemed to be popping out; it had been some time since she'd eaten. "Well, I need to get going. Perhaps I'll look into this...Avalon. I'll let you know."
She stood up, and offered her hand for shaking.

"Of course. I'll send you a list of recommended reading." She smiles, and makes for the door, deciding at the last minute to save this woman from any encounters with the supernatural. For now. "I can get home safely, thank you for speaking with me."
She pulls open the door, and walks out, head held high.
