Jason took Ash's hand and gave it a strong shake. "I am Jason Stanton. It is my pleasure. And hello again, Miss Shadow. . .Uh, is that right? Or is there some other title I should use?" Jason ignored the apparent rivalry between Ash and Marius. As Ezekiel's hood was withdrawn, Jason felt that creepy feeling return in spades. Making an effort to keep his voice steady, Jason said, "I am also interested in hearing the history of this place."

Shadow sighs. She really did not want to have to do this as it was a very long history, but it seemed to be what everyone else wanted. So, she made herself more comfortable in her chair and began.
"Well, in order for you to fully understand all that has happened, I will have to start from the beginning. Now, keep in mind I was not here for most of this so any further questions about intricate detail will have to be directed to Rampent Dragon Karsh.
About twenty-five or so years ago, the city was controlled by an Invictus Prince by the name of Straiphen. This Prince was a tyrant and held the city in a grip of fear and loathing. Three covenents, the Sanctum, the Ordo and the Carthians decided to band together to remove him. They succeeded.
However, none of them really thought past the point of over throwing him to who would rule after he was gone. So, the city split into three different factions, each covenent contesting the rule of the others. Prince Freddrick was a member of the city at the time. He and a few others decided enough was enough and they took the city.
Shortly after Prince Freddrick took over, the Brood decided to pay a visit to the city and declared war on all kindred who refused to see things their way. This war lasted for about five years or so and wiped out most of the kindred population. They got it under control and killed most of the Brood.
What we did not know was, during this time the former head of the Dragons was in league with the Brood. After one of our own, Kogaion Muir, killed their leader, our own Dragon head took over the Brood herself. This lasted for quite some time. She had put Muir into torper so there was no way for anyone here to know who was in charge of the small cell.
Then, Muir woke up and began remembering what happened. The Brood Leader was discovered, we had a trial, and she was sentenced to death.
There was also a demon involved in all this. Something the Brood had summoned. A group of us solved that issue before we discovered the traiter in our midst.
And that is the short version of our history here. So, as you can see it is somewhat surprising that you all have decided to settle here for a while.

Ash sat back in his chair, already pondering the causes and effects.

Jason found himself a chair before Shadow began her story.
After Ash asked his question, Jason cut in with one of his own. "Hang on a minute, before you tell us why the Brood attacked, I have a question. What is the Brood?"

Ash nodded.
"Absolutely", that was a safe answer anyway. Other answers Ash could think of weren't so pretty and pleasant.
It was apparent at this point they weren't ready to host this many guests without Karsh present.
"Once again Shadow, a pleasure, but I think I've got one last stop to make before sunrise. Mars, Jason, Ezekiel. Have a wonderful evening."
Ash stood to bow. It was time to head the another place he had heard so much about, the Grindhouse.

Jason did not like the idea of having Ezekiel's full attention, but he spoke anyway.
"When I was turned, I was given only basic information about our organization, and was then sent here for further instruction. I would like to hear of our goals, and how I might be of use."

Shadow shrugs. "Our goals truely depend on the individual Dragon. We have no intention of making any osrt of uprising in this city against the current governement. We work well with those that are here now and we would like to be able to study the Great Work in solitude. Some of us, such as myself, have taken Sworn positions here to help things run smoothly. I am an Oracle and Sworn of Mysteries. This means it is my job to see that the relations between the Prince and the other covenents are peacful. It is also my job to ensure the relations with other Dragons are as peacful as possible. Master Ezekiel is our leader, so to speak. He makes final decisions about the covenent as a whole. Rampent Dragon Karsh is the head of the Sworn of the Axe. It is his job to make sure all of the Dragons are safe.
Those who are not Sworn are expected to study the Coils and help with the Great Work, to trancend to a higher form and move past our vampiric condition."

Jason was trying to hide his enthusiasm about getting out of there. He didn't know if Ezekiel meant to, but he'd never replaced his hood, something told him it wasn't a mistake. Regardless, it was quite unnerving talking to someone who looked like a skin covered skeleton.

Shadow digs in her purse again and pulls out a small notepad. She unhooks the pen from the binder and begins writing.
"Here are the numbers for myself, Ezekiel, and Karsh. You can also always come here if need be."
She pulls the paper off the notepad and hands it to him.
"Are you in need of anyone else's number? I can get them for you as well."

"I see, thank you for all the advice, sir. I think I should get going now. It has been a pleasure to meet you," Jason wasn't sure if he'd just lied or not. He hadn't found the meeting with Ezekiel to be anything close to pleasant, but if not for the creepy factor, he would have been extremely glad to know him.
Jason made his way back to the car, and drove it back to his parking spot at his haven.

Marius had patiently listened to all the questions, said his good-byes and was now enjoying the ensuing quiet.
He turned to Shadow and Ezekiel who were still there with him.
"Now then, Shadow, Ezekiel, I was looking forward to talking to you both in private." A smile started to spread across his face, with a tint of wickedness.
