Kai went back to the sanctum and changed into a shirt and tie. He wasn't sure if the red shirt and patterned tie was too much, but she had seen him in much of the same at the club. It wouldn't be too out of place on him.
He grabbed a cab and headed to Frank Fat's. He stepped out of the car and walked in. She wasn't here yet.
He walked over to the bar
"Vodka tonic please, hold the lime"

Kai continues to sip his drink, and scan the restaurant until Clover shows up. (Kai will stay until 6:30, at which point he will close his tab and leave if she hasn't shown).

Clover appears not much more than 10 minutes late. She wears a blue dress and wears her hair up in a tight bun. It takes a minute for her to find Kai, and for a moment she considers fishing her phone from her purse.
"Hi. Sorry I'm late. How do I look?"
She doesn't entirely look comfortable in the heels she's wearing, but she's trying.

Kai's paranoia was kicking in. He always waited for the other shoe to drop. Her boyfriend walking in, someone starting a fight, some monster ripping people apart. He had pretty much seen it all, and it always seemed to happen at just the wrong moment.
"Would you like a drink before we grab a table?"

Her posture droops ever so slightly in relief. "Yes please."
She raises her hand quickly to make sure her hair is in place.
"Whiskey Sour? Is real Chinese food going to be different than regular, I mean American Chinese food? You'll have to help me figure out what to order."
She did a fairly nice job with here makeup. Subtle, but her skin looks very nice. Like those commercials say, it glows.

"well, I'm quite sure that if it were truly authentic, you probably wouldn't like it. Took me a while to acquire the taste from some things. I'm pretty sure you won't find sea cucumber on the list of most Americanized Chinese food places. However, there are some restaurants that come close. Mainly, Chinese saute their dishes with lots of vegetables and American Chinese tend to fry in heavy oils, along with other subtle differences."
He hands her the whiskey sour.
"Let's grab a table"

There is one seat in the restaurant in particular that holds serious significance in the way of things.
It has a long memory of the collaboration of powerful men in the decision of governance. Probably not the best place for a date.
Another spot is less prestigious, but its view of the window and better position in the restaurant make it a boonful place for new friendships. Well, that's easier to fudge to romantic anyway.

"How about a Window seat? I can't get over new sights here" Kai says to the hostess and then shoots a quick grin to Clover
Don't be such a... Kai didn't know how to finish his thoughts....he already felt he was pooching the date...waiting
"This table looks wonderful" Kai said to the hostess. "Thank you"
Kai pulled out the chair for Clover and waited for her to sit.
If I'm going to be a moron, might as well be a gentleman too...waiting

"Classes have gotten back in session. It's my last year, I wanted to take it easy but my final design project needs a lot of work. My friend Cristie moved apartments, so a couple of us had to lug her couch across town. It actually fell on my friend Richard, which was really funny."

"I am. I'm just catching on about the best way to the heart of a city is through its night clubs. Its certainly better in many regards than risk assessment and mitigation. That can get boring until you find the cause of an issue...sometimes it gets really exciting, especially when its not just an accident, but someone with malice. Sometimes it can get ugly. Lawsuits, trials, all that kind of stuff.
Is your friend Richard alright? Hopefully it wasn't a heavy couch"

She reaches out and lightly touches his arm when he tells her that he has to deal with bad, bad men.
"Richard, oh he's fine. We tried to tell him he needed someone else pushing from the bottom, but you know how young guys are. Always trying to prove something."
Kai's subtext senses are tingling.

Anyway, I trained heavily in Kung-Fu, and one of my mentors was a Shaolin master. I've been training for moments like that my entire life, just so happens this time I got gainful nighttime employment"

"No, I have no vows to break. That was left behind a lifetime ago it seems. I'm not really affiliated with any religion, though I do try and practice the Buddha ways. Patience, Honor, Courage, etc. I find it to be practical, without being preachy."

The quiet conversations of numerous dinner parties rise to a cheerful roar in their summation. In some ways it almost sounds like the breaking waves of the ocean on the bluffs of Silas' mother Isle. It is distant in his mind though, and perhaps so much time has passed that it is simply a memory of the memory.
He does not have to wait long before he is served with a subtle, satisfying Jasmine tea. Silas has tasted better to be sure, but it is unfair to judge a tea for reaching excellence simply because one has already experienced perfection.
The crowd is comprised of many couples, young and old. The most interesting a lively older pair with bright rosy faces and elegant dress worn comfortably. They laugh with an ease that is infectious, and their waitress cannot help but engage them in snippets of conversation each time she passes.
Outside is still chilly, people pass by in mittens and delicate scarves.
Turning his attention inside once more, he notices a couple who are admiring his unusual garb with fleeting glances and whispers.

"No," she laughs. "I didn't learn a single practical thing about interior design. I mostly help put together ad mailings that showed finished rooms for a couple of small furniture companies. But you know, you take what you can get. It was my first real job."
A little concerned she might be boring you, she changes pace.
"Have you ever done a bear fight?" Clover has a particularly mischievous look in her eye.
