 hunting vitae (Baron Quinton)

Antoinette walked up to Baron Quinton's door. This time she didn't knock but just walked in. It felt sort of weird just walking in. Then she walked to the library, hoping that is where she'd find him. She opened the door and called softly "Baron Quinton?"

"Good evening Baron Quinton." Antoinette was at a loss. She had been very excited when she first started out over here. Now her mood had completely changed. She was ready to hang it all up. Done. Game over.
"I, ummm. Well... I came over to ask you something, but changed my mind. Baron Quinton, I'm canceling the show. I don't want to do it anymore. I am going to sell the business. I'll hire a firm to handle the details. Or you can handle the transaction, whatever you want. I'm going to move to Europe. I'm going to get my stuff together and probably leave in the next night or two."

No, this was all wrong. She was better than this. She couldn't bear to let him down. She just couldn't. And he mentioned the Architect thing again. She was so curious...
"Please, wait. I'm sorry. I'm really sorry." She looked at the door that Mr. Hoswick had just come through. Oh, this was so humiliating to be doing this in front of him. She wished Baron Quinton would send him away. "I'm sorry I lost my temper and forgot myself. I don't want to quit. I'll see it through. I don't want you to lose faith in me. I 'am' the girl you think I am. I swear." She looked desperately into his eyes. "Quinton, I want you to teach me what you know. I am worthy. It's just been a hard week. Not that I'm making excuses. I shouldn't be making excuses."
She let her eyes drop. This wasn't going to work. She was in a lot of trouble for sure.

Why did he always seem so bloody calm about everything? Maddening.
"Baron Quinton, it doesn't really matter. It really doesn't." The last thing she was going to do was go off on Lady Dupree and get in an argument with him about her respecting her "betters". She could so do without that. Let's try something else.
"I actually came over because I did some research and discovered that traditionally the Invictus serve Vitae at their recruitment-type parties. Although this isn't technically one, people certainly know we are Invictus, and all PR is good PR. The more decadent, the better, right? I was wondering how I could go about getting a source for serving Vitae to Kindred at the show. OH! And THEN one night when I was waiting on my lessons, I overheard some Kindred at Asylum talking about how mind-blowing it is when vampires drink wolf blood... Wouldn't it be a totally amazing thing to be able to serve werewolf blood at the show to? Oh my god, Lash would be the talk of the town for days to come!! What do you think?"
There was real excitement back in Antoinette's eyes...

Antoinette was a little disappointed. "Oh. OK. I understand. I invited any Kindred that wanted to come – we posted flyers with the Elysium posts. And the Kine were by special invitation. It was all previous Lash attendees. Some local press. And the three magazines you invited."

Asa pulled up to Quentin's estate, and parked the car. In an odd way, he was actually looking forward to the man's self-absorbed arrogance. It was exactly what he needed to take his mind off of the Ballo Della Notte.
He wondered why he had never been told of that sort of Frenzy, and made a mental note to never go behind closed doors with two Daeva women again... unless he was free to play. Leaving had been one of the hardest things he had ever done, he thought with a rueful smile.
Gathering the blueprints, he went up to the door and knocked.
Asa had already decided to attend the Lash event at the Asylum and order some clothing. She was Ventrue, after all, and he would show support. Asa just hoped that Quentin didn't piss him off into changing his mind.

Antoinette hesitated. Did she really want to say this to Baron Quinton? Well, she might yet still be in trouble tonight, so what the hell. "I'm not really that disappointed. I didn't realize wolf blood was so hard to get. It's just the way those guys were describing it, it sounded really, I don't know... outrageous? And I thought it would be fun to have. Unusual to have. Lash is about outrageous. I just didn't realize it was so dangerous. But I understand. I guess I was a little curious to try it myself, if you really want the truth."
His phone had gone off. Antoinette looked at her watch and tried to decide if she should just stand up and excuse herself, or if she was going to be required to stay over again. She shivered a little.
"So, I guess I should get back to the studio. Lot's of work to do..."

Asa suppressed the urge to strangle the man, and wondered how Ishani would take to such... formality. Still, it was nice to be recognized. Was it shallow that he would probably get used to it? Did Quentin know about his conversation with Icarus? Of course. No doubt Icarus had asked him and Lioni their opinions.
He stepped in a gave his host a slight bow, only mildly surprised his Childe was there. It was a good thing, actually, as he replayed meeting her in his mind.
Well, now was as good a time as any to start.
"Alder Baron Senator Jones," he said, "Thank you for seeing me." He gave the Childe a nod. "Miss Antoinette."
Although it was really tempting to add the "Most Magnificent" to Quentin, he didn't want to start things off on the wrong foot.

Antoinette looked startled. Baron Quinton was having company and he hadn't told her. Now she felt awkward. But, this may work to her advantage as she could perhaps just slip out quietly as they went about their business... And it's not like he could be angry with her in front of company, right?
What did he mean Asa needed 'our" help?
She hastily rose when Baron Quinton did, and curtsied slightly when Asa acknowledged her, bidding him good evening. She'd wait for Baron Quinton to make the prerequisite small talk, then make her excuses. This would work out perfectly.

Antoinette could feel her Sire's smugness. What was this? What was so amusing? She needed out. Out while the going was good. Out before they were left alone again.
"Your Excellency, Priscus Asa, please forgive me for my complete rudeness, but I have a million more things to oversee this evening. If I may beg your leave and let you two continue your business, perhaps I will see you later this weekend, or at the show?"

Asa kept his face impassive as he watched the exchange, but he was actually quite surprised by it. Apparently he had a lot to learn about the relationship between a Sire and Childe. Not only that, but he would have wagered previously that it was impossible to hurt Quinton's feelings.
He wasn't sure if it were the right thing to do, but he decided to intervene. He might be taking too much liberty, but it was worth a shot.
"Actually, Miss, I'd prefer you stay. I need all the insight I can get regarding these, as well as needing to inform you both of a family meeting after we discuss these blueprints." He hadn't seen either of them frequent Elysiums, so he didn't know if they knew about the gathering. Still, it was a good additional pretext.
"Now, please?" Asa gestured at the blueprints.
