This is for adding a Search Category to the thread.
It was early enough in the day that the Sacramento Zoo was quiet. There weren’t buses lined up with kids having day trips quite yet. Near the front entrance there were small animals running around, not typical of the zoo. Ducks, rabbits, geese and small voles skittering about the area. They were there for the top food of course.
There was a person at the front gates reading a book looking fairly bored.

Evelynn's ancient blue stationwagon came rolling to a stop in the parking lot, stuffed with changelings. The petite Wizened cut the whining engine, shooting Hank an apologetic smile, as if his work as a mechanic meant he'd take the terrible state of her car as a personal offense. She clambered out of the front seat and gathered up her backpack, pushing her glasses up her nose.
In her backpack, she was carrying a large notebook and several pencils. The notebook's first page had a table scribbled hastily across it, titled "Neighborhood Pet Watch" with several columns, headed with "contact name," "email address," and "missing animal (if any)."
Stepping away from the car to avoid getting in the way of the others as they got out, she grinned, pleased to be able working on something to help. It was a depressing problem, to be sure, but working against it, even in this small initial manner, made her feel good. "Ready guys?"
Evelynn gave him a look as her car made a sound, but Hank was focused on his ears, listening for the direction and strength of the sound, his natural instincts kicking in as he attempted to figure out what the problem was. Now was not the time for such things though. As the car was turned off he stepped out of it, dusting himself off as he stood. Looking over to Evelynn as she spoke he merely replied, "ready."

WillpowerFor some reason Mhairi thought Evelynn's car would be a two door junker. She's more then glad that it's a rickety stationwagon. And the blue color is pretty too! Mhairi made a point of saying so as she climbed in after they finished with breakfast. For most of the ride, Mhairi tried to keep off Beccs' tail. That would be more then just kinda embarrassing if the elemental sat on it!
The petite elemental arches her back after she climbs back out, pulling her bag out after and shouldering it after she stretches.
"Yepers." Mhairi comments to Evelynn's question. "Beccs?" she asks after the chimera still in the car.
Becc's was antsy in the car. The confinement clearly not her forte but she endured. She wasn't worried about her tail, or anything like that. But she was aware she probably didn't smell the best.
"Yeah, I'm not dressed for this..." She muttered as she trailed behind Mhairi.
The young woman in the booth hadn't raised her head from the book she was reading. But to those approaching, it probably looked like she was staring down into nothingness as the window only went down so far. The gate, which was normally fully opened during the day was closed right now, the result of the recent incident. Inside, the group could see employees bustling about, feeding animals and checking things over.

Evelynn was looking over her notebook while the others got out of the car. She opened her mouth to ask if someone else wanted to actually speak to the zookeepers, only to turn and realize that none of them were particularly suited to talking to strangers. Mhairi seemed like she might have been even more shy than Evelynn herself, and Hank was... well, blunt, to put it nicely.
Oh dear. She'd brought a Wizened, two Elementals and a woman who looked (was?) homeless to go talk strangers into helping them. Whoops.
She forced herself to stop and take a deep breath, then plastered on her best friendly smile and approached the woman at the desk, clutching her notebook to her chest. "H-hi. Umm. We're here to uh, ask a few questions about the missing animals? I was hoping we could maybe talk to one of the zookeepers. Or, or something."

Looked to Mhairi and Beccs as he made his way to the booth. It seemed that Evelynn wanted to do the talking. That was fine with him for now. He approached with her, standing nearby and just trying to appear non-threatening. He may respond depending on the woman's.

Fashion Willpower WillpowerMhairi follows after Evelynn and Hank, deciding she'd let Beccs chose whether or not she'd follow close to them or not, instead of tugging the homeless(?) women by her sleeve.
Mhairi was more then just glad that the Wizened was the one doing the talking. Sure she could get through the whole question and answer bit, she just didn't know if the chick at the counter would put up with how she'd get through the question and answer bit.
So Mhairi affixed a mild smile upon her lips and hoped that it didn't look as awkward as it felt.
The woman quickly jerked up, yanking out her earbuds and looking behind her. She looked back to the smart/nerdy girl who spoke. "Uh..." Clearly the gal wasn't prepared in how to answer that question.
"Um... So, I'm not sure who you could talk to. I could get the manager, too. Or yeah, the head zookeeper may work."
"But, I suppose I should ask." Pausing, trying to remember something. "Are you with like the newspaper, news station, or animal rights.... activists?" The gal made no motion to release the gates yet. Finally she looked at the group who was all there. To the desk girl, most of them looked normal... but the one where her eyes rested. The one who looked all mangy.

Evelynn looked uncertain about the question, at first, frowning slightly as she considered what she might and mightn't say. She could lie - claiming to be from a news station might get them more access. But if they were caught in the lie, they wouldn't get anything. And they didn't exactly look much like a news crew.
"Oh! Well, um, yeah, we're animal rights activists. We're gonna set up a way for the people missing pets to keep in contact with each other, and for other people who want to help, too, so we can all keep an eye out for each others' missing pets..." She felt like she was talking herself in a circle. And not making much sense, at that. "S-sorry. I mean, we're here to talk to the manager, or the head zookeeper, whoever works. We just want to ask them about our, uh, community program for all the people who were affected by the rash of missing pets recently." She smiled, genuine but also nervous. She hated to think what might happen if they were turned away at the door before they even got a chance to try to figure out what was happening.
