Most people thought that finding information was always the most difficult part. And that was certainly true, on occasion. But this, he had gotten with just a few phone calls. Once you had the right connections information could be gathered with ease. It was useful information that was hard to acquire.

When information was obtained easily, you were inevitably left with bulk data. Iron ore, if you will. It was easy to find, but not terribly helpful in its raw form. In order to actually use it, one had to first refine it. Which, in this instance, meant poring over it for hours on end. Because most of the information was worthless; mostly due to the method with which it had been obtained, though partially due to precautions and safeguards. The trick was to find the pieces that were not. One had to look for connections, things that seemed to be coincidences, discrepancies, incongruities. Little bits of information that meant nothing on their own, but could be pieced together to form a cohesive whole. That was how you obtained information that was truly valuable.

Finding them, of course, required countless hours spent staring at the reports. But a Vampire’s Requiem was eternal. He had all the time he needed; the end result was well worth it. And he had never lacked for patience.

Much to the dismay of many.
