James Nolan was drunk.

He had started drinking earlier and was already tipsy when he caught up with Marc, Jean and Dodo. Dodo gave him such a stare, but in his inebriation he hadn't noticed. He followed the trio like a bad stain and while he sensed Dodo's agitation only getting worse, he found he could not stem the acrimony.

His jokes fell flat.

His voice was getting too loud.

He was blundering into people. Pushing and shoving, someone nearly threw a fist. He laughed at the red faced loon, scampered after his friends - after Dodo. Tonight was going so well, he thought. A night out with friends should fix their strained relationship.

He almost ran bodily into the towering hulk that blocked his path.

"Uh. Hey..." James managed to not slur his speech, but his voice was still thick.

"I think you need to go. Like now!"

"But why?" He tried to move around the giant but it was to no avail. The huge bouncer checked him at every turn.

"You embarrass yourself and your pals have had enough, yeah? See - they go in. You don't. Go home."

"You mean Dodo is inside? Lemme in!" James attempted to push his way by but the giant was as solid as a rock. All James did was embarrass himself. Behind him, someone laughed. Swearing, James turned...

"GO HOME!"

The voice came from the bouncer - a quiet rumble with all the pregnant power of an avalanche about to burst down a mountainside. James turned back, fist readied, mouth open to unleash vitriol. He had to look up to glare into the bouncer's eyes...

Those eyes glared back down at him. The bouncer loomed, his head at an angle; meaty fists curled at his side. Meat fists. The bouncer was chunky. As solid as a rock. A mountain of a man. Suddenly James felt really, really, small. The strength fled from him.

Green watched the deflated fool slink away like a wounded dog. He let out a breath. The new gig was not turning out quite like he expected. Maybe construction was the best thing for him - working to a plan with raw materials. People were too... complicated.
