The camp truly is as dead as it at first appears. Perhaps deader. Nothing moves to stir the air in this desolate hollow. It has been truly abandoned, and not even the vigorous hedge-foliage is keen to return just yet.
As Tally moves closer to the iron polluted pit at it's heart, she can see a gaunt, anaemic corpse, much like the others except blessed with a hat that would be the envy of any Communist dictator, crushed at the hip and pinned to the ground by the fallen block of metalwork which appeared to have fallen from some collapsed assemblage of cradles and wheels.
Radiating the heat of the sun, Marcus' muscles strain and bulge as he heaves the twisted mass of metal from it's resting place - the straps cutting into his shoulders, but the weight causing him little difficulty once he has heaved it from the depression in which it has sunk. He finds however that if he pauses for too long, the ground seems to sag and sink below it once again.
Enlivened by this observation, and no doubt a general lack of desire to remain in such a desolate charnel house, the intrepid threesome, literally in the case of their leader, ploughed on through the Hedge. The combination of a Hedge Warden, and that much Iron makes even the most narrow, treacherous pathway relatively safe - though the surrounding foliage does seem to creak and groan in frustration as they pass by un-assailed.
It takes a few hours of trudging, for they had travelled long and far in their search, but following a Hunch, Marcus lead them on, until they emerged, blinking into the setting sun, sinking low towards the horizon as with a rasp and a heavy thump, the mangled remains of Marcus' engine tumbled out of the trunk of the rusted hulk of an SUV the gate had opened out of, as on the fair side of the junk-yard, a faint sound of barking could be heard.
The End.
Whew! Thanks for playing guys. Not quite what CW asked for, and it ran on a bit, but I hope you at least enjoyed!
Feel free to take the after-party drinks to Beyond the Hedge or Lost, you don't have to go home but you can't stay here!
