The moon isn't in the sky because it's in his bones, his blood, his heart, his goddamn soul even and it feels like molten ice and frozen fire and liquid lightning all at once and it shoots it's way through his brain, flipping all the switches and cranking all the dials up to eleven and then snapping them off as it goes. The howl burns it's way through him and screams out of his throat and it sounds like freedom and mania and hunger and endings and beginnings all torn up and blended together and it trails behind him like the tail of a comet as he shoots down the street.

Christian feels so GOOD. This must be what life really is. The size and beauty of the EVERYTHING is being burned into him like a blowtorch on flayed skin. Everything is raw, everything is REAL. He feels so ALIVE! Before him stretches a patch of darkness, a hill of some sort.

HIS SIDE STILL BURNS LIKE A SON OF A BITCH FROM THE BULLET BUT IT'S SWEPT AWAY IN THIS FLOOD OF NEW SENSATIONS. CLOTHES? WHO NEEDS CLOTHES!? HE'S GOT LIFE BY THE SHORT HAIRS AND NO REASON TO EVER LET GO. HE'S BEEN WAITING FOR THIS MOMENT AND HE NEVER EVEN KNEW IT.
TONGUE LOLLING AND WIND WHIPPING THROUGH HIS FUR AS HE RUNS, RUNS TO THE TOP OF THE HILL. FROM THERE HE KNOW HE CAN SEE EVERYTHING HE'S EVER WANTED OR NEEDED...

From the top of the hill, all of midtown streteches out before him, each bright light some poor schmuck's "life" as he toiled away in the office late night, or pathetically walked home from a bar drunk, regretting his whole life. But not Christian. Christian could see it all, see the patch of black glass that was the river, which seperated him from all the lights. Behind him, he can hear the other wolf panting as it climbs up the levee.

It's so pretty, he thinks. And he thinks that for a scary guy, the one that chased him is sure out of shape. He looks back and mocks the man chasing him in his broken language. "Can you chase This One? <mocking laughter> Eater-of-Pumpkins!" And he's off again! Running to the bridge because once he makes it there he's going to know without a shadow of a doubt that this fool won't be able to find him.

Shadow Tongue had been sitting under his favored tree. But that was sometime ago. A shaggy brown wolf ran along 16th street. In the distance was the bridge. He would be there. He would see for himself what was beyond the river.

"STOP!" The other wolf barks at Christian, as the two chase across the bridge.

His heartbeat pounds and he's running and there's a parked car in his way and he does something with his arms and legs and then he's soaring up and over the car and all his thoughts go WOOOOOOOSH and it's awesome. He doesn't have any words that can describe it and he's okay with that.

Shadow tongue reaches the bridge. He hears claws on the pavement. He is there watching for what is comming. Who care if there are people. This is wolf business. people can take a long hike off a short cliff.
