"I'll see you later, Alda," Rook said, and settled down at the piano once more. As the Fairest and the Darkling departed, the soft notes of a new piece could be heard following them. It was faintly melancholy and pleasant - a sort of distilled, musical essence of that moment at a party when the crowd parts and someone finds themselves realising that they'll never see most of these people again, but that it was probably the best night they've had in a long time.
