Brenn amended her plan, noting that remaining quiet for the rest of the night would only damn her further, so thus she spoke again, just more carefully, keeping her tone bland. "I don't know what we can find, since the assailant went on foot and kept their weapon with them, but there's no harm in examining the sight. However, one other thing we might wish to consider, Priscus, is contacting the Reeve directly and seeking his aid. From what I know, Flores alone organized contact with the Reeve when we first went a-hunting, and since Flores is now gone, perhaps it would be beneficial to re-establish contact. I mean, we haven't heard anything from the Reeve or the Deputy, have we?"

"Finding anything would be more than we have at present, Brenn Fool . I am curious how examining a site could do any harm at all.

As for what Flores did- Flores is gone. What he intended is null and void.

"I don't see why not hearing from the Reeve or Deputy is a matter for concern." Jennifer said slowly.

"This is a family matter. Squaling to city officials that we need thier help to secure our own family meetings and intruders to said meetings makes us look as competent as new born infants."

"When we return to the sight of the attack, I'd like to obscure my presence to see if I can spot any form of surveillance; or any impending attack.

Are there any vantage points near the site where I could get a view of where the attacker came from?

I also think it wouldn't hurt to establish a fail safe code to weed out impostors. Nothing too elaborate that needs to be practiced, planned or time consuming. A simple phrase or signal at meeting another family member could establish whose genuine when we first meet each other."

Brenn's hands slowly curled into fists and she became utterly still, her voice issuing in an emotionless drawl while she kept her anger in check.

"To repeat, Ms. Hazelton, 'there's no harm in examining the site.' Secondly, ince you are new, I would like to inform you that the Reeve and8Deputy have already been involved in this matter, and unless we are in contact with them, we have no idea if they are continuing or dropping the investigation. If they continue it, and”solve it without our aide, would that not make us look badly? T§irdly, unless you or Mr. Drake posses the Powers of Sight that žany Mekhet have, we may never be able to find this assailant, sence they can likewise cloak themselves from anyone's vision. Thus, unfortunately, we might need outside assistance. That is the nature of this beast."

Jennifer gave the other woman a long, measuring look. She regards Brenn for a beat, two, three. The minutes stretches as the Haunt regards the other with an emotionless countenance.

"Its up to the Priscus, Miss Lawrence, who we choose to involve in our Family affair." She replies calmly.

"I would also expect you to speak to me in a more civilized manner from here on out. I forgive your zeal in this one instance, for I understand your stake in the matter at hand."

Her eyes move back to the room, her eyes moving to face to face.
"We all have a stake in this. I would like to hear every one's opinions."

"As I said, Miss Hazelton, 'one thing I would suggest'! I did not order or otherwise state that I was going to contact the Reeve behind the Priscus' back." Brenn returned, still struggling to maintain calm.

Sidor watched the back and forth between the newcomer and Brenn for a short time. When Brenn's hands curled into fists, his own slid casually into his pockets. He was impressed by Jennifer's display of courage in refusing to be bullied into silence. Yet again though, he found that Brenn disappointed him. Not for her viewpoint, but for daring to imply violence against a neonate.

"Miss Lawrence, please unclench your fists," he said, his voice moving like a scalpel. "I don't particularly like it when people try and menace newcomers for having an opinion as equally valid as your own." He didn't shift his position, but the shrouded expression flickered across the group.

"As to the suggestion of involving the Reeve and the Deputy. We will see if anything can be found here first. Then, I will be speaking with our Clan's allies." My... allies.
Internally, he wondered why he'd felt as if there should be a different word there. Of course, that wasn't really important now. "As for a way of distinguishing ourselves for fear of a shrouded attacker imitating one of us... that is not a bad idea, not at all, Miss Hazelton."

Castor couldn't help but chuckle a quietly to himself when Brenn and Jennifer began their exchange. Will the children never learn. The petty squabbling was irritating. He almost felt sorry for making Sidor Priscus.

"Might I make a simple suggestion?" Castor cracks his knuckles loudly. "A simple action such as that is just subtle enough to be overlooked by everyone else, yet just definitive enough for each of us to remember and recognize it. If each of us were to simply pop a knuckle or two when we first meet, that should be sufficient. It avoids us having to memorize code words or wear specific clothing." He cracks his knuckles on the opposing hand. "Unless someone has a better alternative?"

Doctor Powell listened to the to-ing and fro-ing, and the squabbling- oh Lord, the squabbling. She sincerely hoped that they weren't going to need to create naughty corners, and scheduled talking times.

Somehow, she doubted it would work with adults.

"I would imagine a simple code word, that can be slipped into a normal conversation would be much easier. Popping our knuckles would be obvious, if only for the noise," she answered simply. "And if anyone were about, a group of five suddenly standing around cracking knuckles at each other in greeting would look...strange, to say the least."

As long as we're clear whose not ordering who about. Jennifer thinks, dropping the subject and glancing pointedly away from Brenn.

She listens to Sidor with rapt attention, not responding at all to the mention the disagreement between her and Brenn. She didn't come to family meetings to fight and was a bit relieved it wasn't expected of her.

The neonate's eyes widen slightly as her idea wasn't discarded. That was a new experience. Her past encounters with elders of her line were not large with listening to her ideas.
Sacramento was definitely a new start.

Her head turns to Mr. Drake as he speaks. Her brown eyes flick to his knuckles at that unusual noise; momentarily surprising her. When was the last time she had seen a Kindred do that?

A small 'pop' emits as the brunnette tried her hand at cracking her knuckles, frowning slightly at the sensation.

Jennifer turns her head to listen as Doctor Powel explains why the action Castor and Jennifer had just undertook would look odd and more importantly; not work for the code.

    "How about mentioning 'author'?"

Brenn did not nod, but she did drop the subject and carefully slid her hands into her pockets and sat back, resigning herself to a frustrating night. But, if nothing else, her clan was right about her attitude; she would earn no allies by being rude and antagonistic. No, for tonight, it was time to abandon the romantics point of view, and cede control to the logical part of her being.

"Perhaps it could be a code word and a coded response, thus allowing a second layer of security," she suggested. "That way both the person giving the greeting and the one returning it could identify themselves."
