Clean up Crew: Long lost knowledge

Having gained entry to the Sanctum and encountered its ghostly resident Aurora has determined the ghost is the that of a long dead mystagogue station in an old Athenaeum and through convincing argument has managed to get the ghostly guardian to consider allowing her to take the trove to somewhere more secure.

Not about to simply hand them over however the ghost has demanded to know how and where the knowledge will be taken, and what will be done to ensure it is more secure.

[Aurora]

This was what it was about wasn’t it? Convincing this ghost to let her take its collection back to the Mysterium Wing. Now, she had considered herself a good talker, usually able to talk herself out of or into a situation. But this was different. This required a delicate touch without her use of her usual charms.

Could she do it? Maybe. Was she going to try? Hell yeah she was. This was for the Mysterium, this was a rare chance to prove herself and provide something worthwhile.

First questions first.

“Moving such a vast and invaluable collection will require a delicate and well thought out plan. It cannot simply be moved without careful consideration. I would need to examine the Tome and books and see the condition the are in, to see what kind of consideration would need to be made. If any would need special handling with gloves, acid-free paper, bubble wrap, or any custom boxes. Tomes and books that belong to the Mysterium must always be given the upmost care at all times.” First and foremost.

“As to where, the current chapter of the Mysterium is rebuilding its Athenaeum, a project that I am personally taking on. I want to see it be on of great pride with Tomes and artifacts, where they can be preserved for generations to come. Which will be here, in Sacramento, and while our numbers are small, we are determined.” there could also be the possibility of keeping everything here if the ghost was against moving it. But, that could be discussed if it came up.

Just a reminder of the room description. ---In the hidden room hidden room shelves of dusty books and must are the first impressions, the low light falls onto a low table on which long burnt out candles sit in pools of cold wax a dark stain covers the dry pages of an open book, a stain that differ from the wine as a skeleton in dark blue robes sits slumped at the table the handle of a knife jutting out from his ribs.

The ghost still partially phased through the body it seems either unable to comprehend or cares so little for it simply is not acknowledging, Leans down a little over the open book as if to read it. "Care and respect, do you mystagogue have sufficient advancement to be trusted with the knowledge in this room? Or is that another obstacle to be overcome?" Aurora for all her good intentions is no exception and gaining access to study the books to any degree of detail under what a paranoid ghost could perceive as a pretence seems like it will be a challenge in its own right.

It's ghastly head turns to behold the Sharman. "Preserved yes, but guarded just as much, not freely shared to those who come later." It is a statement as much a question, a deeply ingrained part of whoever this ghost was in life, the mysteriums hoarding and secrecy, to keep knowledge out of unworthy hands.

[Aurora]

She was expecting such a question, as any Mystagogue would. “I do not believe in lying about my current standing within our Order. I have only recently achieved Neokoros, so I am aware that there is knowledge in this room that I am not deemed ready to read yet. As to what I can be trusted with? I believe that is something you can decide. I only seek to preserve it for the Mysterium. I do not seek to obtain knowledge I have not earned the right to, that comes with time, study and being tested by one above me. If you wish to test me to see if I am trustworthy to simply preserve the Tome and books, then I welcome it.” But she had no desire to betray the trust that not only the Mysterium had placed in her, but Chambers as well.

“Knowledge is not to be freely shared to those who have no earned it. But even when shared with those who have earned it, it has a price. Magic and knowledge are not a gift to be given freely by us. Knowledge and magic gained unjustly, given freely without a price, can lead to one confusing it with righteousness and that is a dangerous path. We are responsible for keeping this knowledge,” a hand gently gesturing to the room and the shelves, “and other Tomes in the world, safe and out of the hands of those who would such a path.”

If a ghost could look satisfied, this would be it Aurora has answered well. "It is good to know the protocols are still being taught well." Of course such things would matter to a mystagogue. "You would be better served with the library above, nothing in it is considered restricted." The order does after all teach vast amounts of just about every subject imaginable if you can find the right savants. "What is down here is beyond you Neokoros." So the good stuff, knowledge with meat on the bones. An incorporeal hand tries to close the open book on the table, failing of course.

As its frustration mounts again attention returns to the Sharman. "So your plan then, to move a hefty collection of books you are not permitted to closely examine." Honesty might breed an inconvenience here or there but it does seem to have won him over to the idea in concept, if Aurora can work out the logistics. "I would hear how you plan to do it." Given this ghost is on record for sending four mages packing, it goes to show what the success are a careful and considered approach can have. Aurora has it talking and has brought it round.

[Aurora]

The Shaman nods her head once, “Taught and adhered to by each and everyone one of us. To not would go against everything we stand for.” But hey, if what she said had gained her some small form of approval, she’d take it. “I will keep that in mind, but I have not come here with the intention to seek knowledge that lies within the Tome and books. My intent had been to investigate what had happened here and what the others had forced their way into. The fact that these wonderful books and Tomes are here was simply a surprise to me.” Facts are just facts. Then a small bow of her head, “But yes, what is down here is beyond me and I am not permitted to read it, and I am not asking to. I know my place and I would never overstep it. One doesn’t need to read the pages to know if the outside of a book is secure enough to be able to be moved.” She adds as she watches it try and close the book. Wanting to offer to help, but instead, takes a step back. Not that she was reading the book, but just as a respectful gesture.

“It is an option, yes, but I do not have the logistics worked out completely. It is something that is going to require me to look into the traffic routes and to study the area. Moving such an important thing is not something to be done lightly, and as a second-degree Master, I want to know who is in the area, what the threats are and what the safest routes are. How long have you been protecting it?” looking around the room, “And has it ever been breached?” because if it had never been breached, then maybe her second idea was the best.

The ghost actually sneers. "There are always some who haven't had it drilled in deep enough, looking for a leg up, worming their way into our ranks to seek our secrets." The ghostly voice drips disgust. "So many defaulted to the dam assemblies that shows you." But the spectre masters itself, Aurora after all was not one such traitor to the order, or well it did not seem so.

Empty eyes follow the Sharman's movement. "This place no, but I had expel four intruders from the sanctum recently." He had said as much already it seems that might have slipped whatever it had that passed for a mind. "A second degree is it impressive, and only recently Neokoros." He seems to ponder something but gets distracted. "Yes caution is wise, any movement must be safe, secure. How many can you bring to help?" Auroras show of respect and protocol have done wonders to keep the ghost calm, playing to the things of importance it is clinging to.

[Aurora]

This nod was sage, deeper, “There will always be those like that. And it’s our job to keep a keen out for them and make sure they don’t gain access to our secrets. But it goes to show that we have protocols in place for a reason and they must be followed at all costs.” One thing no one could call her was a traitor.

“The four recent intruders are what brought me here. To see who owned the Sanctum and if any amends needed to be made. I am glad they were not able to breach this place, it shows what you have setup to protect it have held.” Or the four were just weak and stupid.

Ok, now this is where things get tricky and the ghost might not like the answers. “Not going to sugar coat it or lie, our numbers are small. There are only two of us right now, which I’m sure doesn’t instill a great deal of faith in our abilities. I understand it and I respect it.” And she expects it. “It would be a difficult undertaking, and if it’s not one you are comfortable with, I will respect it, and maybe we can come up with another solution.” Her mind had already been worked out a plan B in case the ghost hadn’t been this receptive.

The ghosts snarl returns. "Always sneaking, creeping, lying trying to cut corners and then pleading innocence and mercy when they screw up, dam libertines." So he has a chip on his shoulder strong enough to have been held onto after death. That could be interesting, maybe something relating to what anchors him him?

The four recent intruders known to Aurora as Eidolon, Salem, Philip Crosen and Corn, some have less then a stellar track record for decision making, two are now dead and one fled from the consequence of his actions the last is unknown but hasn't been seen a while. "It was the first intrusion, I didn't think anyone knew about this place." Going quiet in a way that only the dead could go. "I only chased them off, they could try again. More reason to get things moved." After all the ghost is entirely out of the loop on recent developments.

Thew news is less then ideal that is certain. "Only two and one of those only recently raised to Neokoros." A less than grand picture it painted. "How secure is the location you want to move them to?" The ghost seemingly not entirely put off by the idea, it is after all not uncommon for a single curator to be put in charge of looking after an Athenaeum and other mystagogues to use it as a base or visit as research required.

[Aurora]

Well, seems the ghost does *not* like the libertines. “I haven’t personally had a dealing with them, but I will keep a closer eye on them. Have they crossed you? Tried to steal something from here? From you?” time to ask some question it seems.

Nodding, “Two of them won’t be trying again, they’ve passed on. But the other two are on the Councils radar, needing to answer for a few things. So if they are found, I wouldn’t expect you to see them coming here again, I’ll be talking to them personally about that. After all, breaking into another’s Sanctum is not acceptable and will not go unanswered.” It was against the Lex after all. “But it is quite remarkable, and speaks highly of your security and Wards if that was the first intrusion.” Credit and praise where it was due. “The only thing that led to the building itself was the Ley Lines, it was how I was able to find it, along with a vague descriptor. The Spirit Tree in the front wasn’t too helpful, but was friendly.” She still needed to talk with it.

The news seems to be taken better than she expected. “There was a time when our numbers were greater than they are now. But, as I am sure you are aware, people come and people go. Only the steadfast remain, those who are prepared to see the Order prevail and become successful.” And she was one of them. “Security is something I have been working on; I’ve taken the task it upon myself to build. I don’t believe it would be to your standards just yet, but it’s something I hope to have built up. Now, the location is secure from Sleepers, but I’ve been adding extra security to build an Athenaeum worthy of praise and worthy of study. It’s a daunting task, but one I feel dedicated to for this Chapter of the Mysterium. Our numbers are small, but we are dedicated and I will see us succeed.” She was quite proud of what her and Chambers were accomplishing. It wasn’t a whole lot, but they were making progress.
