"No predators, they become such," she quips on the rat's size as she retrieves the memory card, checking it is intact. It could be worse than big rats. Like a swarm or bigger as in those b-horror movies of giant mutant rats. Hopefully they didn't find any toxic waste dump sites down here or that might happen. At least according to 1980s b-movie logic. "Hopefully few."

And that was fair about Sonja. "True." As for the aspect of the poison gas option? "I have a Costco card. Bleach and some do not mix cleaners for DIY gas. Blue tarp and duct tape seals it in. Cheap my friend."

It wouldn't work for combat. But for this plan it should be fine.

"Corpses shit themselves," she points out to him as she inserts the card into the reader. "And it spoils fast, even if it is cold down here. I wouldn't eat it, but I'm a Larcenist, my digestive tract isn't much more robust than a mundy's. Clean, skin, and gut first I'd recommend." She at least didn't want him to eat it raw. That'd almost guarantee she'd have to empty out the wheel barrow to use it to carry back a sick Kray.

There was a trill sound from the tablet, the video was ready to go. "Ah! Okay Kray, movie time! We can also see WHEN the rat died now." She bring up the video. If it was yesterday, it could be safe-ish to eat. More than two days? Fertilizer. The video starts playing. Circe thinks of quoting a Mel Brooks film, but decides to delay that for later. She will go high speed and stop if they spot something of interest. Like not vermin or invisible hands picking up the now gone bait.

    Narration:
Kray doesn't notice anything new in the Bridge Room. Still has the treated wooden bridge with its minimal guard rail. Still has the dried river trench running through it. Still rat poop all over the bottom. Circe doesn't even bother looking, focused on her task.

The video boots up. Going fast forward is a good idea. There is a lot of video for the last week to go through. For the first few days they see all the same: rats. Which seem to investigate the bait and disdain it. A big rat does stalk onto the bridge from the East entrance, maybe even the same one, and preys on the smaller rats. It wanders away though.

And then the cockroaches come on day 3. They DO devour the bait, bringing in rats to fight them. It is a little battle. The big rat rumbles into view, charging the melee and killing another rat, eating the head quickly. Then big guy triggers the noose. It struggles for a few minutes, front kicking and rear motionless in the air as it dies. Vermin feast for the next few days, cleaning up the bait and corpses.

4 days old in a damp cave, hanging in the air. The rat's rot might be overcome by Kray's Gristlegrinder or Troll nature, but it'd certainly give him problems leaving his body. Or make him sick.

The largest thing to appear is on day 7: Circe and Kray entering to search the room. No other bipeds, let alone signs of invisible creatures. The Lost still have cameras to check at the East Gallery, Toilet Gallery, Sealed up Sewer, and beyond the Trapped Corridor. Their next destination is the East Gallery, as it is the next room.

Perception checks are still at +2 if they wish to make the rolls when they go.

Hefty the wheelbarrow back up into his grip once he was finished with the trap the Ogre snorts. "Ah. I don't think a few cats will do the trick." More likely to get overwhelmed. "Uh. So yeah toxic gas sure sounds like a good idea." Hang on. "Uh. Why didn't we just do that when we suspected Gremlins could be roaming?" Sure they didn't know gas worked on the melty green creatures but if it had been an option.

The big rat is strongly considered. "Ah. My guts are more secure then most prisons once its down that's that." But that's not to say he didn't have some standards. "Ah. If I was hurting for food sure." But he wasn't far from it. But neither does he discard it to the rats under the bridge instead tearing of a chunk of bed sheet no longer needs now all the surplus was in the barrow he wraps it up and adds it to the pile of stuff.

The video brings news of the neither good nor bad variety. "Uh. Will your blech gas work on the roaches to or do we need the specialist stuff?" As they were making something of these tunnels it made sense to him to clean house, every nook and cranny.

    Circe:
"Not unless we get a few dozen ocelots. And that'd be a new problem," she says in agreement with Kray. It'd still be debatable who'd win, and certainly the ocelots would take losses. Unacceptable risks, "Fox eared problem with bigger teeth and claws. No." Circe then blinks, looking at the screen wide eyed. Then looks up to Kray. Back to the screen. Back to Kray. Back to the screen. Turns it off and secures it, "Because Kray. We did NOT think of that."

It was the honest truth. It hadn't occurred to Circe and certainly not to the rest of them at the time.

She was glad he wasn't eating it raw and now. Though he was saving it? The Larcenist rolls her eyes at the Troll's actions. Dude had an everything teeth set instead of just a single sweet tooth.

As for how the poison gas plan would work on roaches, Circe shrugs. "I don't know. Its chlorine gas and extra. That, uh, kills everything I think. Well, everything Ironside at least. Probably."

It was actually like they could just go to the store and get roach traps or poison for killing them. Same for the rats. It'd just be a long time to happen. "I mean, I get it. Seeing them war like that," Circe nods, "Kind of worrisome, makes thinning the numbers a good idea. If it don't poison them, we can improvise."

"Shall we?" She hefts the subby and spotlight in different hands. Lighting the way so to speak.

    Narration:
When the Lost head east, they do not encounter any problems as before. The same trail marks of the same vermin and their past visits are all that is in the dust. Rat scratches on the walls again, but otherwise nothing of note.

Within the East Gallery however, each notices something. Kray notices that the tarp that covered the Eastern doorway has a large hole at the bottom. Probably about the size of the rat he collected. It is otherwise intact, indicating nothing large has come through.

Circe will see that something has gnawed upon the wooden pallets. It seems the big rat was being quite the problematic rodent.

The bait plate? Empty too, though the noose is still waiting to be triggered. How fortunate that the Lost both saw this before checking the bait plate. It could be quite embarrassing to have been lifted by the trap they set themselves.

The trail camera? Yes it is fine too.

    Gristlegrinder Troll

So yes felines are not an option. "Ah. Gas can get places cats can't and can't get on the wrong side of a swarm." Alot of advantages to pest killing gas. "Uh. We might be able to use it on those condos as ell right." Still not sure what the plan was with those. "Uh. Or use the condos as a trial run." See just how effective the gas was in an already inhospitable environment that didn't pointlessly fill their tunnels with a lethal substance.

With the next bait empty and the trap not sprung it became evident something had managed to outwit them so the rat comes in useful Sonner then later, to replace the missing bait with something a bit heftier. "Ha. There lets see if shifting that causes whatever to set the trap off." Should make it a little harder to scarper off wit hat any rate.

The barrow begins to trundle after the summer queen. "Hm. Yep lets." The rat sized hole in the tarp fits the monstrous thing they had caught but even so his mind goes to dark places and paranoid suspicion about what could a thing that melted on death squeeze through while alive?

    Circe:
"Verily!" Circe cheers. Then walks and talks as they head East. Only option, they came from the West.

Circe is a little relieved. Not at the lack of threats needing to be shot, but due to Kray objecting to tactical cats. Though she does pause in searching when her bring up the condos. "Um," she thinks for a moment, recalling the context. "The condos, like, uh, already DO that on some nights. Something about toxic residue and fog equal dead homeless people. I recall finding that online," which meant gas works as poison. And the place should be pretty empty of vermin. Or evolution meant only immune mutants were left.

"But if it is ALREADY toxic," she ponders at Kray's suggestion. "Nobody would bother testing for MORE poisons. And we got the gasmasks. Just phaaaaa," Circe trails off as the Gallery is reached. Not due to seeing something, but the issue she just realized. "We left it bricked up. Be kind of a trek to get their overland. Have to check for security cameras or guards," it was something to ponder later. They certainly couldn't go through using the pick-axes to get in. Mostly because Circe didn't care if she had the Brownie's Boone.

She already bricked up one entrance. She'd like to not have to do it to another AFTER being the one to destroy it. That sounds like an SNL skit.

The tarp does get her attention too. Though her thoughts go to the giant rat they'd caught. More than one maybe? Circe clicks the gun from single to full automatic. She'd seen enough dystopian media to be concerned about giant rat swarms.

"Hope that big fella you packed up is the king and not a common big rat," she quips to Kray. Then gets the camera's card. "Next episode on~"

She makes sure the pad is angled so Kray can watch it with her. And fast forwards as needed, finger ready to pause if something Gremlin-like comes up.

    Narration:

The Lost do not have any encounters in the East Gallery storage room. The camera is working fine, providing footage of the room.

The bait plate is devoured on screen by a number of cockroaches. This time without the rat war occurring. On the same day when the big rat appeared in the first camera, it shows up on this footage. Tearing into the bottom of the tarp and forcing its way through. It stalks around the room for a bit. Gnawing on some of the supplies, but otherwise not doing much before going off screen.

It seems roaches are too light to trigger the trap and the big rat had no reason to trigger it. So, maybe there was only one big rat? Maybe.

The Lost now have a hang-up in their quest plans. Do they head North first for the Toilet Gallery or go East to the other two cameras?
    ---
    Circe:

"Huh," she scoffs at the results. "Big fella being solo? Yay," she drawls out flatly. "So, Kray? Toilet, sewer, or traps next?"

    It was a legit question.
