Otto sighed and tried to puzzle out if he knew anything about the various indigenous cultures of the area to start with, at least enough to decide if he should ask about a specific group. Just admit that you don't and try not to sound insensitive. Following the librarian, he took the two books on origin stories before following her to the historical section. "I'm mainly focused on pre-colonial periods, at the moment." He couldn't claim to have an in-depth knowledge of Californian history, but he figured it would be more productive to try to read up on settlements in the surrounding area before Europeans became involved.

Once the librarian directed him to the appropriate materials, he began the arduous task of reading through the tomes for any useful snippets of information. Times like this make me miss coffee.
