The text had been ... loaded to say the least.

But at least he hadn't sent every sentence as its own text. She supposed as far as things that rankled; she could be thankful he had skipped that one.

Of the multitude of questions that were raised, there were only a few she could get the answers to right now though.

The diary.

Where had she ...? ... ah yes. There. It was still mostly at the top of her to do pile of paperwork. Not much digging needed at all.

Which was good because the work of actually trying to get answers from it ...

Was a waste of a freaking day is what it was.

She wasn't even sure why she bothered. She studied rocks for freak's sake. The fact that she had managed to even identify that the diary was written in Sanskrit was somewhat shocking.

While not quite thrown, the diary was unceremoniously returned to its pile. Maybe Philip or Corn would have the ability to translate.

Pulling out her phone she fired off a quick reply to Philip. And then stared balefully at the companion to the diary.

The phone.

Tomorrow. She would tackle that tomorrow. When the sting of the diary defeat didn't burn so fresh.

The steam from her tea curled into the air from where it sat.

And although she noted it and watched it, enjoying as always the flowing designs it made, her true focus was on the object next to the tea cup.

The cell phone. The locked cell phone.

She knew there was a math algorithm or equation or something about how many possible pass codes there were. And that she could probably look up the final number on the internet. But she didn't really want to know how potentially futile today's exercise was going to be.

So, what she had done instead was look up a list of the most common passcodes. It wasn't a short list. But she wasn't afraid of tedious work. You couldn't be in her line of work.

She still knew it was unlikely to yield a result but ... well, she might not be an acanthus but sometimes luck happened without magic.

Taking a tentative sip of tea, she set to work.

Witch will spend a full day punching numbers. She will have to take breaks for food & stretches as well as to let the phone "cool down" post bad code entries

Okay just a few things Delta:

When performing extended actions you can roll a number of times equal to the dice in your base pool (atrribute+skill) so for this task Witch can roll 5 times. (Intelligence+computer = 5) with 5 dice per roll.

If the first 5 rolls were not sufficient she could repeat the task with -1 penalty to each roll for repeating a failed action.

As stated in the plots thread each roll takes half an hour (hacking task) so rolling 13 times will take 7 and 1/2 hours hours before we consider breaks, resting and phone resets. so that shouldn't be to bad to do all in all.

I do appreciate I did not state this was an extended roll in the plot thread, that's my bad. But the rules for repeating failed actions would apply regardless.

Fortunately she succeeds in the first 5 rolls as the target for basic hacking is 5 suxx

Whoever this phone belonged to is clearly not big on personal security because Witch's list of common passwords proves its worth and within just a few hours witch has access to the phone and its contents.

Witch can use the rest of her day to make an extended Intelligence +academics, research roll to correlate the information on the device.

She was nearly done with her second cup of tea when instead of the wrong password jiggle and screen clear ... the phone opened.

Blinking at it for a second she then gave a small whoop of success and smiled as she finished the tea.

And then went to make some more.

Because the work was far from done.

Thankfully, for all that she didn't know Sanskrit and knew that her access of the phone was a combo of luck and foolishness rather than skill on her end ...

She knew how to research.

With the phone unlocked Witch trawls through settings, messages, notes, contacts, the calendar, everything this phone has to offer.

She Learns that the Phone belongs to a Darren Greenfield - 24, his socials show a few things on interest he himself is a bohemian looking man, Caucasian very thin, long hair, soul patch, tye dyed clothing, shell bracelets, rings on most fingers.

He works for a company called two men and a van (a removal company) -- checking back in his calendar Witch would note that Mothisa's apartment is one he was booked to clear, after her passing. The booking comes from a Josh Vize.

He is currently attending counselling (at Middle way counselling) a document on his phone lists talking points. These focus around black outs in his memory, periods of time lasting from a few hours to days where he has no recollection but always comes to awareness in places he does not know, motel rooms, night clubs and similar venues and always dressed in a women's clubbing attire with full makeup, nails, and hair.

The black outs began after he had cleared out Mothisa's apartment.

His socials which automatically log in from passwords saved via cookies show pictures of himself but also selfies of a happy, healthy Indian women at clubs and dancing. This woman is very clearly Mothisa but at a healthy weight, Not the thin austere model the social media mourning campaign showed. Some of these pictures look to be the originals of some Witch was aware of when she first started looking into this whole thing.

Selfies have been uploaded to Instagram since, of Mothisa back at the lounge just a few nights past. However all the socials have been quiet since.

Something important to note is that Witch does spot that in photos from the socials after the date of clearing Mothisa's apartment Darren is wearing a new ring on his right middle finger. A gold band with a stylised Ohm symbol on it. Mothisa wears an identical ring in every photo of her. Before her passing (right middle ring finger) and in the post death party selfies. None of his contacts seem unusual. Parents, Boss, the names of a few friends, a taxi company, a fast food place.

He makes no mention of these black outs in his private text conversations with friends always lying to them about why he ditched or has been absent for days. The lies range from He his car broke down, his mum was ill, his dog died (no evidence exists he ever had a dog).
