It was lovely weather out, this early June day. Sunlight permeated the northern California sky, with a few small clouds scattered about. A light breeze passed over, bringing various smalls, both sweet and gross, across the city. The Sacramento Zoo was open and busy. A lot of families came through today. Freshly out-of-school-for-the-summer children eager to see the animals, their exhausted parents wishing the zoo allowed alcoholic beverages.

At the primate exhibits, some of the zoo visitors found a curious sight. A young Asian-American woman was putting on a show, of sorts. She sat on a bench before the enclosure for the Black and White Ruffed Lemurs, and seemed to be carrying on a conversation with the animals.

The children were delighted, laughing at the girl as she apparently joked and argued with the pair of lemurs, which sat in a tree and made noises at her. The parents, assuming this was some act put on by the zoo, were content to let the kids watch while they took to some nearby shade and rested their feet.

"No, Frank, I don't think that's true at all. What? Oh, please! Where would I even get a vacuum, a tub of whipped cream, and a pound of turkey feathers at this hour?"

One of the lemurs chittered, as if responding to the woman, who shook her head in response.

"What? Frank! Don't get fresh with me! Penelope is sitting right next to you!"

Sonnie made a shocked face at the kids, who laughed and giggled. The female lemur smacked the male on the head, which only elicited more laughs from the growing crowd of youngsters. The male lemur, 'Frank,' screeched indignantly and rubbed his head. 'Penelope' hooted towards the monkey-tailed Steepscrambler.

"It's okay, Penny. I'm not offended. At least we know Frank has good taste in females!"

Penelope actually nodded her head and waved her arms, causing the children to giggle more.

Little did any of the humans know that Sonnie Wu really could talk with the primates. It's was a simple Contract for any Beast to learn, and she enjoyed coming to the zoo to use it. A nice loophole even allowed her to enact the magic free of any cost in Glamour, by just giving the lemurs new names, which she had made up. She wondered how amused the parents would be if they could hear the other side of the conversation. Frank had a dirty mouth.

The sheer joy she was generating among the children had the desired effect, as well, creating a feast of positive Glamour for her to feed upon. Sonnie soaked it up from the ambient laughter and wonder, like a cool wind on a hot day.

All good things came to an end.

A burly zookeeper came down the lane, looking curious and annoyed. "The hell is going on here?" he asked, miffed at being drawn away from his lunch break.

"She can talk to the monkeys!" a little girl in pigtails said, looking up at the zookeeper with a smile.

"Huh? Who?"

"Her! The funny lady!" the small child turned and pointed at the wooden bench.

But it was empty.

The children, having been distracted by the arrival of the zookeeper, now looked around in confusion. It would take another few moments before the nearby parents noticed something was amiss. By then, Sonnie, happy and full of Glamour, had long since slipped away into the crowd. Frank and Penelope waved goodbye to her and retreated deeper into their exhibit to take a nap.
