After Miss Donovan leaves Thomas makes his way to the now free Mekhet Priscus. "Priscus Von Schusten might I be able to have a moment?"
Thomas & Wilhelm continue here...
Seeing that the Harpy was now free Katrina stood up and slowly walked up to her.
"Harpy Maskelyne, may I have a breif moment of your time." She lowers her voice "in private if possible."
Ciata & Katrina continue here...
*Ciara smiles at her newest companion.* Of course, Ms... Scherbotsky I believe? Follow me to my office, we can speak there... *Once again, Ciara makes the short trek to her office, holding the door open for Kat to step in ahead of her.*
"Excellent," Heathcliff enthuses, "a pleasure to meet another of the Family." And unaligned, he notes happily, the second-best answer Obadiah could have given the Bishop. "The Nosferatu have played an integral role in the defense and security of this Domain, as well as served our Prince at the highest levels of government," he croaks with pride. "Arnold Culler claims a Regency for his contributions and is generous to his family. You will be able to feed there. Besides he and I, there is only Dirge among our number," he says, looking around for his cousin to point her out. "She leads the Crone in the Domain. I serve as Bishop to the Sanctified. Sounds like a rather poor sitcom pitch, doesn't it?" he chuckles, but the mirth ends quickly. "Our Clan has had suffered regrettable losses recently, Obadiah, and we are all that remain, for now. But I am encouraged by the arrival of new Blood," he smiles unnervingly. "What skills do you possess that will be of aid to our Family among these tribulations?"
Tiny Martha was initially paying attention to Twist's dress and shoes for a moment...then studying the new faces. Seeing Max wander her way, she offers him a sincere smile of greeting and a meek curtsy.
Without even a pause after Ariana's knock the door opened and Victoria stood framed in the doorway. She looked over at the figure standing before her door and her neutral expression quickly grew into a small smile.
"Good evening." Looked her over for a brief moment and then added. "New arrival I assume? Or was there something you require?"
Ariana’s inner beast was triggered once the door opened. She wanted to turn away quickly but instead, she smiled graciously.
Bowing and curtsying at once. “Hello Lady Seneschal Stamford, my name is Ariana Donovan. I have just arrived from New York. This is my first time changing cities.” She was not entirely sure what information she needed.
Still smiling, Victoria reigned in her wasp as it buzzed in the back of her brain, its presence was unwelcome.
"In that case come in, have a seat, and then we can get down to business," she said stepping to the side so the other woman could comply.
Ariana entered she found a sofa and seating immediately to her right and across the room at the back wall was a large desk with several chairs facing it. The Seneschal gestured to one of those chairs and waited for the new arrival to clear the door before closing it behind them. Then making her way to her desk Victoria sat down and again waited for Ariana.
"Tell me a bit about yourself including clan and any covenant affiliations. Also, what brings you to Sacramento? She asked with a pleasant smile.
Ariana sat down quickly crossing her legs at her ankles and her hands neatly folded on her lap. Her sapphire dress moved well with her body and she did not need to adjust when she sat in the chair. She decided her journalist mode would be suited best for this discussion. She also felt as if this may be an interview of sorts.
“Thank you for seeing me Lady Seneschal Stamford on such short notice. I am originally a journalist who worked with the New York Daily News. Given that, I worked closely with our Herald and Harpy and was advised accordingly what needed to stay out of the media. My sire was the Lord Prisci Bainsworth of the Ventrue of New York. Over the last few months some things began spiraling out of control and were beginning to become the attention of the media where I did not have any control over. My position as a journalist was coverage of the club scenes, restaurant openings, art galas, music and etc.” She paused for a moment making sure that Lady Seneschal Stamford’s facial expressions were not displeased in anyway. Ariana continued; “At my sire’s recommendation he thought it best that I left New York. Even though I was mostly unaware of what was going on, he was concerned that I might be a target of a rogue Kindred. He thought Sacramento would suit me well.”
At this point, Ariana thought she was prattling on, but she knew she needed to leave none of her prior questions out. “Before I left New York, I was learning about the Invictus Covenant to which my sire was a member. I would like to continue with that, if I may.” She paused briefly, still poised and calm but less than slightly confident; “ Lady Seneschal Stamford, I would also like to offer any services I could to the Court as well. I will also be holding the same type of journalistic position at the Sacramento Bee.”
After her final statement, Ariana fidgeted for the first time, yet it was ever so slight. She slowly changed how her legs were crossed at her ankles. She waited with anticipation and smiled amiably. She thought she would play things very safe for right now.
"Lady Seneschal is fine given the context Ms Donovan," Victoria said helpfully. The considered the other woman's story with interest. It was always nice to see what appeared to be a Ventrue sensibly interested in the First Estate.
"As a Ventrue I am your Priscus. I mostly have a hands off approach to leading unless I am given a reason to interfere. I would like to assume that the clan is adult enough to stay out of trouble and the individual members can function properly in polite society," Victoria paused for a moment and continued changing the topic. "What sort of person was your sire and what interests you personally about the First Estate?"
“Lady Seneschal, my sire Lord Bainsworth was originally from England. He was a partner at Cadwalader, Wickersham & Taft, which was also the firm to which my father was employed. Lord Bainsworth was around galas and parties that my family attended long before my embrace.” Ariana halted for a moment, she closed her eyes for a second and continued. “Lord Bainsworth and I were in steady contact. He was my influencer, my confidant and very close to being a father figure to me. Although he did not let me stray from my duties, or allow many personal connections with other Kindred, I feel that things were very fulfilling under his supervision.” She quickly decided to return to the other item Lady Seneschal had requested.
“My interests in the First Estate are mainly media related. Since media and journalism are often influential, I would like to maintain that focus. In New York, I attended public and Court affairs and would report on them after the Herald and Harpy would approve.” She stopped herself, perhaps she was speaking too much of her life in New York. “If you have any recommendations I would be happy to hear them, Lady Seneschal.”
Victoria thought for a moment about the Ventrue sitting before her. She seemed altogether different from the others of her clan that had taken up residence in the city. She had goals, ambitions, and at first glance seemed to possess good sense even if she was still fairly young.
"I think that's and excellent idea to focus on making allies and in roads with the media. I'm sure someone like that could prove rather useful. If you're serious about the First Estate then I'm certain something could be arranged. The Invictus will be meeting shortly and would be a good place to announce your intentions. However, you will need a sponsor to be allowed into the First Estate. I might be willing to sponsor you and give you training, but I run a risk if you fail. So I might be willing to sponsor you for a major boon, if that would interest you." The Seneschal sat and waiting patiently for the woman's response. She figured that the other woman would be schooled well enough by her sire in the Invictus to know the value of what was being offered her.
Ariana thought for a moment. She nodded with a small bow of her head. “Thank you Lady Seneschal, that is more than kind of you. A sponsorship would be wonderful. I do not mean any offense Lady Seneschal, however the major boon is a bit concerning to me. I was a week away from the Ceremony when my sire had suggested my moving. Lord Prisci Bainsworth, my sire, was my sponsor and also the Judex. He was confident in my abilities and service to the Invictus. This is my first night in town, and I do not know many others. I am sure you are quite busy, and I would not want to burden you Lady Seneschal and Prisci with sponsorship. Perhaps you could inform me of other members of the Invictus?”
Ariana was slightly less nervous now. Rather shocked that Lady Seneschal herself would offer to sponsor her. She did wonder what sort of Boon she would want from someone like her.
Victoria's expression remained pleasent as the woman answered her and explained. She nodded her understanding and sat back again in her chair resting her hands in her lap.
"I see. While I'm quite certain that your sire had great faith in your abilities I don't know enough about you to make that assessment for or against. From what I have seen so far you appear a relatively good fit, you're family, and with some training could be quite promising. However, I would be taking a large risk by sponsoring you, especially if you did not work out. I would need something to make my effort worth while if things did not work out. Think on it. I'm not asking for a commitment now, you are Ventrue afterall," Victoria finished with a knowing smile.
"The other members of the Invictus would be the Good Judex Twist, Lord Culler, and Lady Dawes. The others are not always as...available as I am and Lord Culler isn't on the best of terms at the moment."
The Seneschal reached into her desk drawer and pulled out a folder with several slips of paper in it. After setting in on her desk she opened it up and then looked back up to Ariana.
"This is a list of the Prince's laws," the Seneschal said slipping the woman a piece of paper and then proceeded to quote them all from memory.
"You will be expected to know these by heart and to live by them. Also you can find a list of Elysia posted and rules here," she said slipping the woman another piece of paper as she continued, "and posted as well. Lastly here is a map of the territory of Sacramento. It would be wise to learn it and not trespass in any Regency in which you do not have permission. As a new arrival you will have access to the communal hunting grounds at the Prince's pleasure. Any other feeding or residency rights would need to be negotiated with individual Regents."
Ariana neatly stacked the paperwork in front of her. She was not irrational by any means. She had listened intently while Lady Seneschal spoke. This seemed to be the best option, after all, she wanted to actually go places in Sacramento.
“Lady Seneschal, I would be honored and grateful if you were to sponsor me. Tell me what you wish of me for the Boon. I apologize that I do not have a contact card as of yet. I will also arrange the other items with the Regents as well.” She was happy with her decision.
"Excellent," the Seneschal said warmly. "I'll have the Harpy notified of the details. The Invictus will be meeting shortly at [date, time]. You should arrive and wait to be summoned and formally present your petition before the leadership. I'll go over some basic titles and form of address with you later to ensure you are prepared. When you get a cell phone you can leave your number with me and until then I'll leave any messages for you at Elysium to be picked up. Did you have any other questions or concerns?"
Ariana quickly removes one of her old cards from her clutch. “Lady Seneschal, the number has not changed; it is current on this card.” She smiles. “I have no further questions at this time. I thank you for this opportunity. I will keep watch at the Elysium until further notice.” She bows her head slightly in thanks.
"in that case you can consider yourself acknowledged and in good standing with all the privileges that entails," she said returning to woman's gesture with one of her own. "Good evening Ms Donovan, and welcome to Sacramento."
Ariana rises from her chair, bows and curtsies at the same time. “Lady Seneschal, it was a pleasure meeting you. Thank you for welcoming me to the city. I look forward to future meetings and training.” She smiles gracious and thankful. “I will not keep you further, and I do thank you again for seeing me on such short notice.” She takes a small step back from the desk, awaiting to see if there is anything further.
It is clear from Victoria's response and nod that she doesn't have anything further.
End Scene?
She sat quietly and seemed to really think about how to answer the question exactly. She seemed to really take her time before she finally spoke.
"Well I was in half a dozen movies give or take in the early 50's. The first one I just happened to kind of fall into at a party when I was about 19. I played kind of the love interest type. Something rather stereotypical. Innocent and young and somewhat propper slumming it a little bit only to find the man of her dreams type thing. I was 19 and i actually met James Dean about that time but i never did get to star in anything with him which is a pity."
She paused for a moment. "Let's see... After that it was a kind of 1930's era Detective Movie. You know those tend to have pretty girls in them somewhere. Specially the one that poses at the door to make her entrance. I should still have the dress in fact."
She seemed to think from there for a moment. "Oh yes. Then after that it was a couple of those beach movies. I'm sure you've seen the type. I wasn't one of the stars but I did play major supporting character types. you know the ones. Buddies of one of the major characters. And I went from there to a kind of Romantic Drama. Oh it was lovely and did get me a few very nice outfits. It was kind of fun as well even if it was sort of cliche in some ways."
"And the last one was something for the teenie bopper crowd of the era. Poodle skirts, Jeans and Jackets and just the whole bit of fun. I got to do the whole first crush thing and all of that. It was actually sweet in some ways. And that should really be all of them."
Katrina enters the office, thanking Ciara as she holds the door open. Katrina sits down and waits for Ciara to take a seat.
"I did not want to take up too much of your time. I wanted to apologise for new years eve back at The Asylum. It was not my intention to seem rude that evening. However, with hindsight I can see that perhaps I was. That night was a bit.... complicated. I am sure you can agree we all scheme and have our own plots and plans. My particular goal of that evening was not going to plan and I found myself stuck in a situation I could not have gotten out of without disrespecting Jillian in the process. Before you had arrived we had almost had a .... situation... where I could feel my beast rising up, trying to take control. At the time I was still living in the Barrens and hunting is no easy task. I was hungry and that was the root of the problem. It was like poking a caged bear with a stick." Katrina paused
"I would have gladly taken you up on your offer if it had not been for that fact. I did not want to risk exposing what we really are to the kine. In the process it came accross as rude and I apologise for that. My intention was to simply say that I wanted to but could not that evening. Disrepsecting members of the court is not something I would do lightly and I hope that you will accept my apology."
Wilhelm turns to face his Whip as he senses the man's approach, and nods slightly. "Of course Whip O'Connor, what is on your mind?"
