Hector and Jayant both make their way past the rats. The feeling of uneasiness passes.
Jayant notices that the rats are now no longer transparent. They are just plain gone. He's walking along and one second they are there, the next they are not.

His black eyes squint and Jayant cocks an eyebrow. Disappearing rats? Now that is rather peculiar. Without a word, the Khaibit continues onwards.

Jayant continues forward, and the whole place seems stranger. The water seems thinner, less dense; and the concrete walls seem grainier.

"I do not like this, Hector," Jayant says in Sanskrit, shuffling forward as quietly as he can. It wasn't that he was spooked but when one is out of their league, it is always best to step back and observe for a while.
Hector decides to risk whatever is about as he brings the light to bear on the area about them trying to get a feel for it while also attempting to recall all the things that could simulate what he'd seen the rats perform. It was perhaps odd that they chewed on nothing, or perhaps they just hadn't seen something in the rats mouths, and then turn semi transparent followed by either vanishing or sneaking off. Odd, but most such things were.
As he thought he replied to Jayant, "I understand, it's normal but let me know if you feel the need to regroup as I would like to continue."
