Rime of the Ancient Marina

The pack of Uratha makes their way towards the river and the marina. By now, one who didn't know better would never be able to tell that the area had been so devastated by the Pure's rite. There was no lasting damage, at least no apparent lasting damage, and its spiritual population was restored. Some spirits and motes having taken advantage of the lack of competition immediately following its restoration to increase in power and rank, some spirits seeing opportunity in the recovering area and immigrating to it. Certainly something that those wolves who had been present during the Hisil's devastation were likely relieved to see, and something for those who had been present that fateful night at Tur to be proud of.

Please roll perception. Those in Urshul or Urhan (which I think is everybody) get a +1 to the roll.

As they approach the river every one of the Uratha pick up the scent of the water, familiar from time spent in the material world. But there's something...else, to it here. A subtle scent of decay and putrescence, somehow mixed in with the that of the river water. The odors entwined in a way that you'd never encounter in the material world.

And to Matthew...the scent gives him the unmistakable feeling of happiness giving way to despair, the glory of triumph ceding to the misery of failure, understanding lost as fury takes hold. As if those emotions were given scents in this world. As if those emotions that made life worthwhile were subsumed within that river, drawn in, twisted, darkened. Light to darkness, health and vigor to disease and rot...twisted by some unknown force, some untold malevolence.

Matthew's nose wrinkles at the scent. <<Decay. It twists emotions, subsuming the good ones. Sally, Andrew, keep an eye on the other side.>> Matthew continues toward the river, keeping an eye out for the level of spirit activity.

[Shadow Tongue]

Shadow Tongue jerks his muzzles in a nod. He focuses to split his vision. Only he can not. His spirit shudders as it fails to deliver what was once never in question. Andrew can not hide his shame.

Some nights are just like that.

Sally's gaze pierces the gauntlet to look back into the material world, where there appears to be nothing noteworthy or out of the ordinary. Likewise, there doesn't seem to be anything strange in the Hisil either. Though the number of spirits seems to thin as the Uratha approach the Marina. Perhaps they're avoiding it?

And, predictably, the scent they'd all noticed earlier gets subtly stronger the closer the werewolves draw to the river.

Soon they find themselves at the Marina's entrance. Well, the reflection of it anyway.
