As Kalos watched the structure that had just hours ago hosted the city's most powerful, he thought on all the work that had gone into setting it up for just a single night event.
Frame
Note: PVC poles are joined with standard PVC connectors to create the frame for the structure.
· Spray paint all poles and joint connectors black. Be sure to use Krylon spray paint. Designed for plastic it will adhere better to the PVC and not strip away during travel or assembly
· At the correct location, sink each support pole into a 5-gallon bucket of cement. Once the cement is fully cured, spray paint the bucket and the top of the cement black
· Reassemble the remaining poles into the frame. Using black nylon rope, secure the frame as you would a tent
Ceiling
· Black vinyl is the material used for the ceiling
· Sew large strips of material together to make a single large section that will be the ‘ceiling’ of the structure
· Around the edge of the piece, use grommet pliers to attach heavy duty grommets.
· Lay out flat, black vinyl side down
· Use a small razor knife to make a tiny notch in the material. Through this notch punch the light bulb of a strand of Christmas lights through. Apply a bead of glue to hold the light in place. Repeat this over the entire piece, in random order. This will create the illusion of a star scape above the heads of those inside. It will take many light strands, so vary the style of lights- use some standard, some bubble, some mini, and some LED. Because of the large quantity of lights used, this will be the main source of lighting for the structure.
Walls
· Black vinyl is the material used for the walls
black vinyl
· As with the ceiling, apply heavy duty grommets with grommet pliers to the tops and two edges of each wall section
· Lay out flat, black vinyl side up
· Using spray glue, cover each section with silver glitter
· Once the glitter has dried, sprinkle silver-white paint over the top
Wall/Ceiling Assembly
· Attach ceiling first. Use black nylon cord, threaded through the edge grommets and around the PVC poles to secure it
· Repeat process with the walls, threading cord through the top and edge grommets and around the PVC structure
· Be sure to pull the vinyl taught
· Keep two sections open. One is for the band room (will be delivered) and the second is for the entrance
Floor
· Heavy black rubber matting is laid over the entire floor structure save where the podium will go and where the dance floor (to be delivered) will be
· Sprinkle with silver-white paint. Thousands of small drops to create the illusion of star scape below your feet
· Sprinkle with silver glitter
Tables
· Black wrought iron stem that leads up to a Plexiglas top rimmed with black wrought iron
· Along the edge of the table, just under the iron rim, attach white rope light
· Tablecloths are made of black sheer organza, studded with diamonds
Organza
· Small black leads are strung on the edges of the tablecloths to make them drape and stay draped
Platform
· Basic box platform. The front being equipped with stairs
· Spray paint black, cover with stars as was done with walls and floor
· Attach LED Christmas lights around the edge of the entire platform and each of the stars so that you can clearly see them
· Two square holes are cut out of the top of the platform, one on each side of where the throne will sit
· Cover the holes with Plexiglas. Under these will be two lights that shine up onto the throne so that the Prince can be clearly seen
Throne
· Reuse the throne from early Ballo Della Notte production. Strip the wood and re-stain in golden honey
· A motif of a sun rising will be the back rest and sit directly above Asa’s head almost as though the sun is crowning him
· Rays of the sun will trail down the edges to become the arm rests
· Legs are decorated in sun motifs
· Below the large sun imagery will be a padded back to match the seat and the long part of the arms. Reupholster using gold crushed penne velvett
velvet
Band Room
· Convert a large simple wood shed into a band room
· On opposite wall of doors, cut out large section of wall and replace with a soundproof clear material
· Equip for sound transfer
· Make acceptable for Kine, ie: ventilation, light, space, water cooler, snacks for the night
· Paint the portion around the clear window to a star scape
· Set up behind dance floor
Extras and Electronic Details
· Around the entire base set up black lights to shine up along the walls. This will provide additional means of lighting as well as make the glitter and white paint from the walls shine out for the star vista illusion
· Rent chairs for the assembly. Apply nametags for position holders and Invictus
· Using BDN’s equipment and supplementing as necessary set up the sound equipment. This involves setting up speakers to transmit sound from the band room into the structure proper and attaching a microphone unobtrusively to the throne so when the Prince speaks, all can hear
· Set up multiple generators at a distance from the structure so that all the electronic lights and equipment can be powered without the drone of the generator being heard
· Set up paving stones to entrance, edged with battery operated lights
