Okey-Dokey's Carnevale: The Boatman

As the sun settles over the horizon and dusk is cast across Sacramento, strange lights begin to dance to a merry tune in Discovery Park. Wisps flitter to and fro, here and there, stretching from the various entrances and each leading to the lake in the centre of the park where a number of boats shaped like swans await.

At least to those with fae senses. To all others out and about this Valentine's night do not see any lights but do catch ghostly images just out of reach and a sense of wonder as they make their way around Discovery Park.

The changelings of Sacramento do see the lights as they beckon them towards the boats and can start to hear the plinky-plonky tune that lights their hearts; the sound of a funfair. Reaching the boats, a simple looking man awaits dressed with the biggest bow-tie in history, hand outstretched, smiling. Each changeling wishing to travel to the market and the Carnevale feel the weight of the Wyrd pulling on them and must choose whether to continue onwards or not.

Pay the boatman a mote of Glamour or turn back and be forever left in mystery.

This is the first part of Okey-Dokey's Carnevale where it allows the characters to interact briefly before continuing to the goblin market proper, which will follow in another thread. To reach the Carnevale costs each changeling 1 Glamour.

Erica arrives on the scene, drawn by the wonderful sounds and lights and stares at the scene in delight, her cat like curiousy insisting she pay the boatman and go see what's happening. She keeps it down for now, glancing about to see if any other Lost are approaching.

John arrived not long after Erica, nodding at the apparent show the goblins were making to attract customers. Definitely an improvement over the Boston Freehold Goblin markets. He noted before making his approach to the other changeling. "Take it your waiting for someone?" He asked, hoping to make some conversation before he made the leap and went into the market. Never go to a market alone was common sense after all.

Erica and John see a Lost, an Ogre that resembles a Grey-haired Bigfoot, approach the boatman and pay him the Glamor. Whoever the Ogre was, he clearly knew what was going on. The Ogre was serious and apparently taciturn. The boatman recognized him, but attempts at interaction were silently foiled by a nod and a stare as the price was paid.

He was dressed in an old long-sleeved shirt, and jeans fraying at the bottom edges.

Bert searched around for a sign of other Lost members, sort of like a child who moves to a new school. He feels more comfortable when he sees another Ogre approaching the boatman. Although he did seem rather solemn and he kept in mind to approach him carefully in case he had a short fuse. Bert was dressed in his long coat that went down to his ankles, he always used it to conceal his large size even though deep down inside he knew it was relatively useless.

When it was his turn to approach the boatman he payed him his Glamour and then approached the other Ogre, saying "Hello. Nice to see another Ogre round here. You new or you been around for a while?" he asks in a friendly tone.

Rick approaches the pond, and the boats within it carefully. Caution was always called for when dealing with the fae denizens of the Hedge, doubly so when visiting their markets. But at least he wasn't walking into this one alone. Terri was at his side once more, recently returned from her trip to the San Francisco Freehold. And recently informed of the events that had rocked the the Sacramento Freehold since she had left; the return of Sam Barkley, the death of Harry Turkleton. He pauses slightly as he notices John though, realizing that there was one piece of news he'd forgotten amidst the tumult. So he leaned over to murmur in her ear. "I almost forgot to mention, John Gears no longer wields an Iron Spear but is reflected in a Leaden Mirror." The Twilight Page had one to show Autumn's path to, it seemed.

Terri was worried and had good reason to be. Rick had filled her in on the current Freehold climate and things had gone from bad to fucked, and even though she hadn't had any dealings with Turkleton, she had enough courtesy to respect the man's position.

    Which was now dead.

Then Rick laid another bombshell, although one that would affect her moreso than the death of a Sovereign; she may have some work to do in the coming weeks, perhaps months, depending on how fast a learner John was.

"Well, let's leve that behind us for tonight. Its Valentine's day and I'd like to have some fun before the Inquisition starts to ask me questions," she replies to Rick in reference to their own King.

    Looking pensive

Erica smiles, nodding at John, although she's wary behind ehr smile, far too many bad happenings recently for her to trust someone new straightaway. "I'm waiting for a friend of mine, he'll know more about markets then me, and hi! I'm Erica! How about you?" She gives a dazzling smile.

"Of course. A day of mystery and wonder at the Market." Hopefully that was all they'd find there, he really did not want to see what sort of mayhem could take place. "Followed by a night of romance and passion." His smile held a bit of mischief as he pulled away; his teeth nipping her ear ever so softly, and ever so playfully.

Straightening up, he motioned to the boats in the distance. "Shall we see what the mystery and wonder has in store for us then?"

Jonathon gave a short look, but didn't really seem like he wanted to talk. "While. I avoid this mess of Courts though. And the city for that matter."
