Choosing to head down stairs rather then risk being discovered poking at a door he certainly has no business at or in any of the places up here Philip heads back down to the first floor

Between climbing the stairs, heading to the office, less then twenty seconds before having to admit defeat with the lock, and heading back down Philip finds very little has changed below a few more people have made it through security but by enlarge the situation remains as he left it a minute or two prior.

Seeing nothing amiss back in the common area after making sure to put the door back in the position he found it when exiting it again, it was back to the drawing board. But he knew he`d have to be careful and not ask too many questions, or at least not being too obvious about it with just anyone. Ideally, Mr. Cartwright would have to be found or his associates or opposite number. He felt the situation started and ended with them.

With the situation being so chaotic and infuriating, he felt reading the Temporal Eddies might bring him some much-needed clarity and peace of mind from the incredible activity but lack of anything concrete he`d been able to see from Sybils Sight. So as soon as he got back into the common area, he looked towards a random wall between him and which there were no people and attempted to cast his spell.
    failure

But he was still wayyy too annoyed and frustrated about his failure with the door and his failure to obtain the information and perhaps even money he was certain had to be behind a door so important. So no way that was working on his first attempt. Nope. So he took another several breathers, and after another minute of calming down, tried it again.
    4 successes

This time, he was rewarded with success. Perfect temporal clarity. Some much-needed certainty in this mess of confusion and headache that affair had so far confronted him with. And with this success he made his way, backpack, gear, hat and all, over to the cafe.

Clearly, patience was needed because Fate had not rewarded him for his rash action with the door. This included having to cast Exceptional Luck twice, for any effect. And anger had been rewarded with initial failure with his latest spell Temporal Eddies spell. So he went over to the person at the counter, greeted them with a smile and said:
"Hi, can I have a hot chocolate, a sandwich and a candy bar, please? And, can you tell me if you`ve seen Mr. Cartwright so far, today?"
After all, getting information came a lot easier if you showed you were interested in what they were doing, and Philip needed a place to sit down and organise his thoughts anyway.

Failed casting aside Philip centres himself and finds the path to truth casting back the lie to now behold the temporal eddies, the stream of time in all its truth. And here he sees many a strange thing threads of resonance that split, one end dying off the other continuing on, compression or wrinkles shimmer in his view. Scars healed over rips and tears made whole. The scene is awash with signs of temporal interference. A true plethora of things to investigate if he can find a way to so with out drawing attention.

A high schooled aged girl, in her late teens is behind the counter, dressed in a centre uniform with her haired tied back in a ponytail and a little name badge that says 'Bekah'. The multiple piercings through ears and nose however suggest this job is not her usual social scene, but she smiles kindly enough. ''Sure thing.'' And moves to set about fixing up Philips order. ''Mr. Cartwright?'' She seems to get a little defensive. ''Depends who you are? A lot of people want to talk to him lastly.'' She turns while pouring coffee to give Philip a more intense once over.

The things Temporal Eddies revealed to him were clear. This was not a run-of-the-mill community center. Someone or something appeared to have extensively interfered with the timeline in this place. Not a good sign for Philip who feared he might be out of his depth with this, despite being a disciple of time himself. This would have to be extensively analysed as soon as he got some time and place for himself. What was also not a good sign was, after paying the lady at the counter a portion of the cash he had with him, was that she was clearly taken aback by the direct question about Mr. Cartwright.
"Just someone who`s concerned about him is all. I just wanted to see him. It`s probably nothing."
he said, immediately looking to conceal his intentions. It was paramount that that sleeper girl not have the slightest clue as to his real intentions, or that Mr. Cartwright might only be a stepping stone, or part, of this mission.
    4 successes

Philip knew he`d have to think carefully to get more out of her. Because her sassy `Depends who you are.` told him all he needed to know that she was likely a goldmine of information from her unassuming post. No doubt she got all the gossip at her cafe, from people talking in a leasurely and uncareful manner. But he sat himself down at an empty table, enjoying his sandwich and sipping at his hot chocolate, taking in the whole place where he was once again. He was looking to see if there were any larger temporal resonances that stuck out to him, despite not going into deep scrutiny yet.

Can I roll Philip`s entire number of scrutiny rolls or is it just like the lockpicking one roll at a time here, now? How much cash did the things at the cafe cost Philip?

    Read Philip 1 success

Pale blue eyes give him a ounce up and down and don't find what they are looking for. ''Sorry buddy but I don't know you and a lot of people are -interested in his well being at the moment-'' She mimes the air quotes. His dead pan worked clearly because this Girl can't read him.

He can see there is resonance, and that it stands out starkly in his time sight, on which to perform scrutiny twisting, splintered and looped back on itself but without delving deeper that is what the sight provides him. The awareness, the option.

A few more filter in , a slightly larger gaggle of youths is starting to form they seem to be having quite an animated conversation.

Philip tuned out when he understood that she`d essentially said he was just anyone. He simply didn`t care, and so he flatly and completely ignored her as he focused on the world around him, scrutinizing the temporal manipulations, while sitting comfortably in a chair by the café at the table he found for himself. And if someone felt stared at by the scrutiny, the better, because then they might have something to do with this too, he reasoned.

    scrutiny 5 suxx

While he knew he`d have to think carefully to get more out of her, at the moment he just didn`t care. Her sassy `Depends who you are.` mentality was getting on his nerves too, though, and would have to be toned down through skilful diplomacy, eventually. Who does she think I am? Some sports functionary? he scoffed inwardly to himself in the brief moments he did care. But still, she couldn`t be discounted completely. After all, she was still a goldmine of info. Info, Philip desperately needed. But for the moment, he was content to try to figure things out for himself first.

As Philip intently stares around the interior of the community centre the resonance of the place, the feel what's given off and most clearly discernible in the looping and splintering resonance is ... frustration.

''YEAH WE'RE SO GONNA WIN.'' The loud cry from the gaggle of animated youths cuts through his intent focus.

This was not the time to make a scene. he thought, as he was snapped out of his thoughts by the loud cry from the teens. And that was enough to drive home what he also saw from his scrutiny in the mundane as well. Frustration. He was frustrated, and the resonance indicated someone or something might be frustrated too. What were they frustrated at? Was it some failure? Was it a supernal individual? In any case, it underscored that he`d been right to come here and the time spent getting off work for this had been worth it. Most likely. It wasn`t entirely certain yet. His mind returned to the lady at the counter and he ended Temporal Eddies as he did so. He tried to get some more out of the lady, who he`d so far mostly ignored.

    failure

"Hi. Sorry for ignoring you before. I was lost in thought. Anyway, what`s up with those guys? Can you tell me what game they`re talking about?"
he asked, pointing to the youths, hoping she didn`t take it too badly for having ignored her before, still sitting at `his spot`. He then cast Sybils Sight on himself again, just in case he missed anything before in the confusing strings of fate, as he looked in a not obvious direction to steady himself. This time he found the clarity to achieve Sybils Sight immediately, much to his relief, peeking through the Lie just the tiniest bit.

cycling through his spells different aspects of the greater truth Philip once more sees the active and unsettled resonance that fate highlights to him as thing seem to break reform, break and set into differing conjunctions before splitting again.

As he callas across to the counter girl something about his tone? his interest? he's not sure but it seems to have put her of him somewhat.

She points to further into the building towards the areas marked hall. ''There's a notice board through there.'' As she turns to take someone else order only more conversational asking after kids and family members its clear she knows who this person.

So finding his footing, he felt the truth of Fate immerse him in the chaotic strings of it at his present location as he waited for a reply.

When she did respond he was surprised when she indicated a notice board, giving her a curt

Then, after finishing his hot chocolate, sandwich and candy bar, he took his things and went over to look for the notice board as he`d been directed in order to carefully study it, perhaps even to photograph it, but he wasn`t completely sure yet. It wouldn`t be the first time a mundane notice board hinted at arcane secrets, after all.
