(2402) A Warm Night at Edna's

[Kray]

With the arrival of Vincent the opportunity presents itself to force the issue into the open, and Kray knows it. He choses not to. We've spoken, seems we have a direction to head in, the actual workings of it can be sorted out another time. Anatole gets a slight nod of the head just to say his words have been heard and acknowledged.

He then offers a toothy grin to the tired looking Vincent. 'Hm. Just us for now. How you been Vincent? looks like you had a long day.' Kray will start making himself a cup of tea. Strong with just a splash of milk and a teaspoon of sugar. Which he then leaves to settle in the cup for a little bit. Pulling a second loaf of bread to himself, it receives the same treatment as the first, torn into chucks and smothered in the various options. 'Uh. The foods good.' He wouldn't offer it, it wasn't his to offer. The praise meant as much for Anatole, as to encourage Vincent to get stuck in.

[Vincent Black]

"Thanks guys, and yeah food sounds good. Just been doing some training up. Also been looking into a few things." Vincent moves to make himself a tea. "It's been physically tiring, but otherwise it is all good. How have you two been. Anything I need to be caught up on?"

[Anatole]

Anatole moved the bread, butter and preserves in Vincent's direction. The Wizened chose to prepare his own tea, slowly stirring milk into his drink while the others conversed.

"Its been quiet for me. Time of reflection and taking stock, really."

He gestured toward the bread, pausing to take a portion for himself with a generous helping of butter and preserve.

"I've been experimenting with bread making. As for the preserves... This is a bit of clear out. What you see before you is what was salvaged. I hope it hits the right spot."

He was spreading butter and preserve on the bread now.

"You mentioned training. Would you be willing to share?"

[Kray]

Krays rips a hunk from his new bread piece swallowing it with minimal chewing. 'Huh. Sounds intriguing you just going to leave us hanging on a cliff with that or ... ' The tilt of the head, the squint meant to be inquisitive still looks more like Kray is sizing up a meal.

Another bread quarter vanishes this makes a full loaf and half so far for him. 'Uh. For me, just trying to find ways to make myself useful.' A hand moves, just as a reaction to remembering something. 'Oh. And trying to find ways to improve my finances.' Being poor had it's charms, charms that were rapidly wearing thin. Besides I'm going some cash flow to get any of my plans moving.

Next the tea having cooled a little is lifted to a maw that points to the ceiling as he pours directly down his throat, it never touches the sides. Anatole hadn't said anything on their conversation so neither would the Ogre, not today.

[Vincent Black]

Vincent listens in, "I started making my own jerky and dehydrated fruits. It is really good to keep on you when you are hiking or navigating the forest." After a brief pause, "Yeah I have been working on my tracking skills in the national parks. Trying to keep my skills sharp for the next time I go on hedge patrol."

[Anatole]

Anatole's eyebrows rose.

"I love this! I'd have never considered doing such a thing!"

The wizened then devoured his bread, butter and preserve, with as much gusto as the Gristlegrinder.

"Been on many patrols, have you?"

Again the question was directed to the Emerald Courtier. Anatole had gathered rumours enough, but it was always good to confirm.

[Kray]

Continuing to munch. 'Uh. Apricots, raisins that kind of thing?' Sound like a neat idea.

Finishing his tea. 'Hm. How much overlap would you say there is?' That had his attention, and curiosity. 'Between the hedge and the parks I mean?' Sure he had been to the hedge and to forests he could make the comparison. But someone else's perspective should be interesting. We all see things just the bit differently after all.

[Vincent Black]

"Yeah Apricots, Raisins, Bananas, Apples, Pineapple. There are a lot of different things to dehydrate and make viable for a long while." Vincent shrugged. "It just makes sense to have some foods that are non-perishable when you are out in the woods."

[Anatole]

Anatole nodded along and looked, despondent, at his now empty plate. He tried to scoop up the crumbs.

"Hum. Better than the more processed stuff, for sure."

He looked over at Kray.

"Lot of difference between natural parks and the Hedge. Too many to count. But what hiking and all that does is help you put in place practices for preparation, I find. Helps you think about what you will need to survive. Helps you prepare, mentally. But even in parks there are things that you can assume. In the Hedge, too much assumption can get you hurt ... but you still have to go with the flow of it. All hiking does is teach you preparedness - to trust yourself and what you bring with you."

He shrugged, leaving the debate open for the others.
