Verity was excited. A text had come in with good news she had been waiting for. Her shipped package had been delivered Freight shipping had been pricey but worth it.

Did that mean she could get out and ride. Not yet. The delivery had gone to. Daredevil motors A repair shop with decent reviews online. She had booked her bike in for a full MOT and general repair. It’d been sitting idle for some time now after all. But soon … so soon.

Getting delivered right to the shop spared her having to figure out how to get it there after hours once the sun went down. Pick up was going to have the same issue but she’d figure that out when it was ready.

For now, she kicks back into the sofa and pulls up pictures on her phone from her various motorbike holidays, trips and rides. Some of those of course would not be viable anymore but it was nice to be able to tug at the memories. Stop them fading too far.

That is till she sees the people. Friends, Family. And not the people she calls mum and sister now. Her living family. Still very much alive and still very much unaware of her own situation. Did they even know she had moved?

She had slowly cut contact, faded away from them for their sake. Her existence now did not permit such anchors to her past.

A drop of blood hits the screen and then another and a third. Bloody tears streak down the Daeva’s face. It was too sudden, to unexpected she couldn’t stop them.

She doesn’t go out tonight. Verity sits curled into a ball, hugging a cushion and looking through her phone. Caught between fading happiness and stunted sorrow.
