(2306) Event: Unarmed Combat Match 1

Jennifer Hazelton and Helen Kingsley were already on the mat and ready to go.

your goal is to render your opponent prone while you are holding a key and your opponent is not.
To be clear, you can render your opponent prone at any time however you will only score a point if you overpower your opponent to the mat while the conditions are met.
Best two out of three rounds wins the match.
Whomever wins the round will be reactionary (hold action to second) in the next.
Biting is not permitted.

Please see World of Darkness pg 157 with specific attention paid to Grapple, Render Your Opponent Prone, Draw Weapon and Disarm weapon.
While holding a cylinder you have a -1 penalty to your unarmed combat rolls.

The Lord gazed on as the two prepared to engage. A look to the Prince, "Your Grace, that only leaves the decision on whether or not to permit the powers of blood in these competitions. With your answer, they may begin."

Upon the answer, Jack will step back from the mat and watch as the match begins.

The Savage had been quietly watching the Domain gather for their challenges, at Jacques words, she stands,

"There is to be no use of Blood Gifts or Powers of the Blood." something that had already been discussed and settled upon in her mind. But if not, there was now no doubt. And with that, she takes a seat once again.

These would be challenges of pure talent and skill.

Jennifer accepted the key from Jack. Jennifer attended closely to the Prince as she spoke. When it was clear that the rules had been explained and the two contestants were free to begin, Jennifer looked over Helen carefully.
Jennifer faced Helen and shifted into the position Helen had taught her. Jennifer moved her own key into her left hand. Jennifer moved forward to close with Helen. Jennifer bent her knees to lower herself closer to the ground. Jennifer controlled her head as she attempted to clear Helen's arms. Jennifer moved forward as though she were going for a double leg take down. Jennifer reached forward and attempted to establish a grapple on Helen.

Why the reason for the changed post? I did not add a -1 modifier for the key and forgot that a grapple must be established before disarming. I subtracted one of the dice from the right, which leaves Jennifer with one success.
Unarmed close combat: Strength + Brawl, minus target’s Defense and armor

Draw weapon — With one or more successes, your
character reaches a weapon on his person, on his opponent or nearby. Drawing or acquiring the weapon is an
entire turn’s action. The weapon has to be small, such as a
knife or small gun (a pistol), in order to be brought to
bear in grappling combat.


Disarm opponent — If you get one or more successes, your character manages to pry an object from his opponent’s hand. Taking possession of the item thereafter (in another turn) is the equivalent of drawing a weapon(see above). No damage is inflicted. P 159

Helen accepts the key and turns it in her hand a few times. Unwieldy piece of shit, this is going to be fun ! Well, no disciplines, at least there's that...

She does not seem to change her position that much, just some minor things, but those tell enough to the informed spectator. Only as Jennifer goes in, she kinda lets herself fall forward a little and goes for the clinch. She notices pretty soon that Jennifer is a lot stronger than she expected, thus, jennifer manages to press her attack, even though Helen tries to counteract with positioning, leverage and footwork as well as she can. But at least in the beginning, it's not enough, leaving Jennifer with the advantage for now.

Jennifer remained locked on Helen for a few moments as she felt Helen testing her for openings. When it seemed that Helen was not actively about to capitalize on Jennifer, Jennifer made a move. Jennifer brought her right arm over - the one with a free hand - and grasped for Helen's key. She struggled for a moment to pry the key away from Helen. The key is disarmed from Helen.

Helen can't prevent Jennifer ffrom seizing the key. But prevent her from keeping it ? Sure thing. With both hands now free, she goes for Jennifer's arm and shoulder, to force her into a position that allows her to get that key back.

Jennifer carefully evaluated Helen’s footwork. She attempted to see if Helen was going for any take down maneuvers that Jennifer was familiar with. Helen had more experience in brawling, so Jennifer was wary of giving Helen too much time to see openings in Jennifer’s position.
Jennifer took a moment to consider the different take downs that she knew as Helen overpowered her. Jennifer concentrated on getting out of the hold Helen had locked in. Jennifer failed to take Helen down.
